business question

I recently picked up a large sandblasting cabinet and dust collector. I have about $500 into it and am thinking about hooking it all up and doing some sb'ing on a business basis.

Not so sure there is a big call for sandblasting so am doing some checking and thought of OR first to pose the question to.

The interior size of this cabinet is about 24Dx40Lx24H so you can fit some substantial sized parts in it.

Are there outlets locally that do sandblasting (I am in Circleville so 'locally' is relative...lol but I consider Columbus to be local....sort of))? Is there really enough of a need for sandblasting to justify?

thanks, and Happy New Year to everyone!!

Market yourself to fabrication shops and do some market research on pricing, undercut by a small percentage. Read up on common standardized and even industry blasting procedures (aerospace, military, depending on what is common in your service area) and be willing to broaden your scope. Find a good source for media and parts. Be professional, and be realistic with your lead times. Dont change quotes, unless they did not disclose something critical. Think long term. Peanut butter jelly time.

Sandblasting can be tedious depending on the size, amount of rust/paint and the intricacy of the piece. I don't think there is a huge market for it but I'd think you'd probably stand to make a little bit of money of this will be a part time or side job for you.
