Carwhore
My laptop has been broken forever and its outdated so I'm just going to buy a new one. I have a gift card to sears so I've been looking at what they have to offer. The computer needs to be able to run video editing software, I have to stream a lot of video (watching auctions), then other basic things.I've been looking at this computer.http://www.sears.com/asus-15.6inch-u56e-intel-174-core-8482-i5-2.5ghz-6gb/p-00332244000P?prdNo=5&blockNo=5&blockType=G5#reviewsWraphttp://www.sears.com/asus-15.6inch-k55n-rin4-notebook-pc-w-amd/p-00332956000P?prdNo=11&blockNo=11&blockType=G11http://www.sears.com/toshiba-erie-p755ds5378-amd-quad-core-a8-3500m/p-00326913000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3opinions?I've also looked at this cheaper one. http://www.sears.com/hp-pavilion-g6-1d00-amd-a6-3420m-15.6inch/p-00335548000P?prdNo=15&blockNo=15&blockType=G15 Edited September 11, 2012 by Carwhore

Getting into making a video for every vehicle we have. The program I downloaded is power director 10. So basically thats the program i belive would be the most taxing on the device. RVTPilot
ASUS for sure. Intel i5 is a better proc, reiterating Cheech's input.
jblosser
either of those laptops has a graphics subsystem far superior to my tablet and my tablet streams video without a hitch - so i wouldn't worry about streaming videos.of the two, the Asus offers a 90 day warranty, which sucks, but looks great in comparison to the HP which has no warranty.i'd pass on both due to the warranty alone. Carwhore
ive read reviews offline, the big holdback is the speakers on the asus are underneath on the bottom of the computer. so sound is muffled almost always.
Carwhore
when i mean streaming videos, its not just one at a time.
TheBrown57
That i5 will be able to handle just about everything you would throw at it with the 6GB of Ram. I have had problems with Toshiba in the past, my moms Toshiba (Looks similar to the one you posted) has a major design flaw that the HD was located right around where the track pad is so when you would close it you vibrate the hard drive causing the disc to rub. Friend fixed it with a new hard drive but when he ran test on the bad one he said he has never had a HD fail everything.

Next?I run a i5-2500 on my gaming system, and it's taken everything I've thrown at it. I don't think you'll have a problem chopping up videos on that box. It might behoove you to look at something with a separate graphics card if you're really gung-ho about the editing stuffs, but that's pretty much going to obliterate your budget. As far as the Toshiba goes, I reiterate my objections about AMD processors in mobile environments. I've had way too much bad luck with processor overheating to get anything but Intel. Maybe take a look at this? http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00332588000P?mv=rr It's about 170 out of your budget, but Intel proc and nVidia graphics card with plenty of memory on both. You may not need it now but programs typically consume more memory with each update/release as they become more complex so plan for the future. Memory is one of the things you should always go for more of if it's not crazy expensive because that's going to make the difference between a pc that works and a pc that works well. ohiomike
Just bought a Toshiba 15.6", 640gb hd, 6GB DDR3 1333MHz for under $400 out the door, from Staples.
ChiefScooter
I have an ASUS, it's my third one I have owned, I love them. Looks like that first one is a 90 day warranty only because it is refurbished. That being said... The first one is your best choice. Best bang for the buck, in my opinion.Do you HAVE to have a laptop? Generally speaking, desktops offer more power for less money, so just an idea. I know you want Sears, but this deal is pretty great: http://www.pcmag.com/best-deals-today?date=7-23-12$500 shipped, comes with Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, and the system, with decent specs. chevysoldier
I don't know enough to weigh in, but I've loved my two Toshiba laptops. First I bought new, second is a refurb. Couple years old a works like new, plus they have taken a lot of physical abuse.

We dl'd some things on it for her before shipping it off, and its the first laptop I have dealt with that didn't have the cursor jumping all over, doint its own thing, whenever you touched the thing....like when you are lightly resting/touching your hands on it. Jst2fst
I know yuou said you had a sear gift card but I just bought this computer two weeks ago and maxed out the ram at 8gb and it works fine for me and I do a lot of video streaming and editing seems to work for me and the price is right. Computer and memory ran $310 total including tax from Micro Center. http://www.microcenter.com/product/386509/2000-425NR_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Charcoal_Gray
