  1. We should plan a multi day WV ride for July. The roads are every bit as good as what's near Deal's Gap, but with less traffic and LEOs. It'll take 3 days (2 nights) to ride most of the really good roads. Last time I did a WV trip, I spent 1 night in Harrisonburg, VA (near James Madison University) and 1 night in Buckhannon, WV. I probably still have that route saved somewhere.

  2. Bought a Grom this weekend, and I am really happy with my decision. Riding it takes me back to my childhood riding mini bikes and small dirt bikes which is what turned me on to motorcycles in the first place. There is 0 intimidation factor, and its a blast to ride around town. Everyone who got to see the bike this weekend (friends/family) loved it, and when my friends dad (lifelong Harley guy) rode it, he got giddy with excitement and said "I gotta get me one of these!!" My wife even likes it. Moral of the story: If you are considering getting a Grom, just pull the trigger. Honda East in Maumee gave me a really good deal on this one - 2015 Grom in black with 0 miles (up to 30ish today). Now I just need to resist spending thousands on the vast aftermarket that exists for these.

  3. I know they aren't high end road bikes like ya'll but the wife wants to start hitting the bike trails and such. So I pulled the old pedal machines out of hibernation. Just a couple old huffy's and my dad offered his Shimano's for me to fix up. So today I started with this, my old huffy black water made in the USA model so you know it's old. And the last time it was out my 17 yr old kid sat in that rear seat. Needed a couple tubes and to free up some shifter cables but it's riadble again. My wife has one to that's the same model. I got 3 of the 4 bikes rideable just need to clean them up and make the adjustments before the hit the bike paths. The 4th bike needs 2 rubes and break pads so I'll get it going too. I need a bike carrier, I want a Reese hitch one that will hold 4 bikes and be sturdy. But of course I don't want to spend a lot, anyone have any recommendations?

  4. Had a fun ride with two moto brothers from the great Canadian north down here riding the WNF area on GS1200. They camped overnight at Begley's Campground and we all three met up with a Ohio group and started a Adventure Ride. When the Ohio group broke off for lunch we continued on and before we went two miles the GS'ers wanted to "hit some trails" So we jumped on WNF Purdum trail to Dorr run loop and finished on the main over to camp Ohio trail then went on gravel, dirt, asphalt stuff till 3:30 pm back at the camp. We were finished, exhausted. They were great people to ride with. Another crap Video, No Music, 131.5Mi. 32.6 avg.speed 4:01moving time. 5:19 TT

  5. My buddy that showed up was one of my best friends in high school. We both joined the Marines just before Desert Storm. The military and then life took us different directions. Saturday was the first time I saw him in 25 years. That was the highlight of my trip...well that and ditching that cop outside of Robbinsville We got loaded at the bar at Fontana. Not sure how much we drank but the bar bill for 2 of us was $140 Sunday morning I was still a little drunk. I had to chill out for a couple hours before I could ride the Dragon and head home.

  6. Just wanted to share some pics and videos from the recent trip. Had tons of fun. Great roads, slabbed only less than 10% of total miles i would guess. Greatest blessing was absolute gorgeous weather. Lat time we went to gap it rained all the 5 days. Touched almost all the iconic roads mentioned in the threads here. Special thanks for @2talltim for some quick suggestion on the final day. We left with no plans no planned booking and just with the names of some famous roads. Our aim was to keep riding from day till night fall, stick to the twistiest road you can find in the map and find shelter close by when its time to rest. Only regret is I had to be back by friday early afternoon to take the family on another trip. This means even if i slabbed friday morning i could not make it here on time. Thus had to miss the meet with the rest of the gang, was lucky at least to meet hellmut and snot. Overall good trip, only trip that could be more exciting i guess will be those hardcore decaprio revenant dead horse camping challenging danimal ride which i am not man enough to undertake. Anyways here are some pics and crappy video. More pics here >http://s218.photobucket.com/user/achillezvalentino/slideshow/Gap trip 2016 some more pics in this link http://s218.photobucket.com/user/achillezvalentino/slideshow/Gap trip 2016 Short edit video of whole trip : Watch in HD please Just some significant ride part with crappy music to hide wind noise

  8. I've got good dealer support in Dayton, so I'm lucky in that respect. Took the Epic Ride and Gap trip to truly trust the bike, but it's very little short of everything I wanted. A few small mods and I'll be satisfied for some years to come

  11. I ordered these bags from Mike at Riders Discount (thanks again Mike!!!). When they first arrived, they looked a lot smaller than I had anticipated. My old Cortech tailbag appears much larger. I decided to go ahead and try them for the Gap trip, and see just how much stuff I could fit into them. I was amazed. Yes the bike is dirty as hell in these pics. I took these while unpacking from the Gap trip. First, let's cover how they're attached to the bike. This picture shows the four straps connected to the subframe under the passenger/pillion seat. Next, this photo shows the straps sticking out from under the seat. Once we arrived at Fontana, the luggage came off and I rode like this all weekend. Here is how the bike looks with the luggage attached. As you can see, the larger bag (US20) attaches to the straps that are attached to the subframe under the seat. Then the two smaller bags (each US10) attach to the larger bag. It is all very sturdy and secure. So, how much can you fit into these things? The US20 contained all of my clothes for five days and my running shoes. How many clothes did I take for five days? Five pairs of boxers, four pairs of tall white socks, four pairs of short gray socks, four t-shirts, two pairs of shorts, one pair of jeans, one pair of running shorts, three sets of compression base layer, and of course the running shoes. And yes, you're looking at my dirty underwear. Feel that tingle? That's excitement. Well the smaller bags can't hold that much surely... This US10 had my sleeping bag. And this one had my Frog Toggs (in the drysack), toiletries, eyeglasses, knee pucks, and a jacket. Obligatory following slow bikes through the Gap on the way home pic. So there you have it folks. You can EASILY pack for five days in the US40 on a sport bike. The tank bag of course helped. That's where I carried the stuff I'd need on the road quickly; a small can of chain lube, kickstand plate, tire gauge, battery pack, microfiber cloth, cleaner, sunglasses, water, etc. I was absolutely amazed at how much stuff I could cram into these bags. One side note; don't expect your clothes to be wrinkle free when you arrive at your destination...

  12. After deciding on the 2013-2015 Sorento, we ended up buying the 2016 model, lol. Inventory turn-over prevented us from driving the 2014 "EX" model with AWD and leather. We did drive an (almost) identically equipped 2015 example with pretty much every option except AWD and no third-row seat. Both of those were features I wanted... So we looked at (and ended up buying) a 2016 "LX" model without leather seats (smaller touch-screen, manual seat adjustment instead of electric, no blind-spot detection - you get the idea). But the reasons we bought it were: 21,000 miles on the clock (10-20k fewer than the other examples we had looked at), AWD, 3.3 liter V6 (290hp!), and third-row seats. I sat in the third row, and i'm pushing 6' tall. It's really not uncomfortable, even with the second row slid all the way back. that said, we'll almost never use the third-row, except when it's us and 2 other couples looking to take 1 car out instead of 2... After a week of ownership, I am thoroughly impressed with this vehicle. Road noise is nonexistent. It pulls damn hard for being a mid-sized SUV (0-60 in 7.5 or less), and will tow 5,000 lbs. If you're not flooring it or towing, it gets 25 mpg in mixed driving thus far. Not bad for a 7-passenger AWD grocery getter. I wish I got to drive it more often!

  17. Here's my best story of the weekend... Saturday afternoon I was taking 143E out of Robbinsville. Just past the high school the speed limit increases to 55. I took that first gentle corner about 8 or 10 over...and there's a state trooper right there. In my mirrors I see his brake lights and he starts doing a 3 point turn around right in middle of the road. I pulled into the first parking lot on the left an hid behind a couple pallets of mulch bags. 5 seconds later the statey comes back around the corner with his lights on. He doesn't see me in the straight...so he thinks I must have fled. He punches it and screams off into the distance. I wonder how long he "chased" me. He must have thought I was really moving I slowly rode back through Robbinsville and found another way back to Fontana:)
