It turns out that if you ride regularly and you keep a motorcycle long enough, you eventually put some significant miles on it. My 1997 Triumph Speed Triple has rolled over 100,000 miles. It spent nearly two years in storage, getting little mileage, and for almost all its life it shared duty with other bikes in the garage. But for a while it was my only bike, and for a long time it was my primary transportation. So eventually I rolled over the odometer without really trying. I've owned it since it was a year old, and now it's clear we'll be together til death do us part. I think it still looks decent from a distance (at least the right side). Anyone who's interested in more details can find them at my web site.3 points

I've been known to have a temper from time to time. Years ago, some young guy in a slammed 4cyl S-10 came out of nowhere, passed me in the left berm, cut me off, kicking up all kinds of debris onto my truck, and then blew across the remaining 2 lanes to exit the interstate. Nonsense. There was no other traffic around so why act like a such a cum puddle? Had nothing pressing to do, so I moved over and followed him up the ramp to the next red light. Pulled up next to him, jumped out and tried his passenger side door ( which he had luckily locked ). Peering through his open window I asked if he was going to "settle up or puss out", with a panicked look of sudden diarrhea, he runs the red and took off. I cooled down and went back to the highway. Wife obviously gave me the 3rd degree, but some fucks just need a hard lesson now and then. Ultimately, not giving further chase, I saved his life that day....sometimes it just feels so rewarding to be a good samaritan, saving lives Left lane squatters piss me off too. Sometimes I'll make my way around them, slide over ahead of them, and return the favor by slowing them down ( always in my truck, I dont stick around on my bike - I pass dumbshits when I ride ). That usually gets them out of the left lane, then I take off and resume my day and much happier that I helped someone learn something new....the golden rule and all that.3 points

Professional advisers that are free to you are paid by the "products" they have to offer and are very biased towards their own earnings. I have had a few bad experiences with the recommendations these advisors make that benefit them more than me. You pay fee for service advisors and therefore they are less biased about the investment options they recommend. But they are very expensive related to my assets and certainly the funds your kids received. I recommend investing those funds on your own. The 529 plans are educational for kids in that they list the investment option you have chosen, the unit price, number of units held, etc so you can track the growth of their investments. The 529 does have tax advantages not available through other investments and the funds can be used in a variety of ways. I agree the other investment option is a CD but rates for those are low right now too. A savings account is also a good educational tool for kids when they get a bit older. Good for you for being so thoughtful about those funds.2 points

Meh. To each their own. I'd much rather screw myself over so I know who to blame, than figure out 20 years later that someone else took me to the cleaners for something relatively simple to learn. Are the people "advising" you that much smarter than you? Did they spend years at an Ivy league school? What's their personal financial situation? Do they have good credit? How much money do they make? What makes them "qualified" to advise you? What value do they bring if they're just going to plug your numbers into a templated spreadsheet, ask about your 'risk tolerance', and put together a [not really] 'custom' plan their 'firm' hands out to all 'clients'? Save for some super crazy tax loopholes that most of the common folk can't really take advantange of anyway, I have confidence you can learn this stuff, because you're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, [some, one?] people like you.2 points

Stunters + congested traffic = what could go wrong? I will happily stay down south in hillbilly land. I don't have the patience for big city traffic, plus our roads are better2 points

Since I fired my professional and learned how to invest, my results are much, much, much better. I also couldn't justify the fees I was paying.1 point

that was a great pic from jammie, very nice. At one time I was hoping most OR would make this a trend and go to bucket and take pic and start posting in one thread. anyways, I am borderline Asian, Jacob is borderline hippie, it was borderline rainy and moody, perfect ride to mix with some shamisen sound well problem with mixing music is every one has a taste like every one has an opinion. no two people ( esp in OR) likes the same stuff. that's the advantage of keeping raw as well. Nobody will be like " what kinda freaking sheet bomb music is this "1 point

No, and good luck. Half of them don't even have a fiduciary responsibility to you, in fact they just passed a law about that (http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/columnist/powell/2016/04/06/investors-new-fiduciary-rule-protection/82661384/). Welcome to America. Given that money is a pretty big deal, you should probably endeavor to learn about it yourself and not trust someone else to look out for you.1 point

yea I used to do this couple of years ago when I put in exhaust for VFR, that bought out the sound of bike very nicely that even a small background music didn't hurt the video. Then never could do it and all the bike sounds (vstrom is silent and sound sux ) are drowned by wind. this is me and @jacobhawkins 2 yrs ago when I came down from Michigan on a rainy day lol bumped music higher sort of to match the mood of cloudy rainy day Am thinking sort of keeping it as such and see how the video turns out, when I looked through some clip it kinda bought me back to that day. Hope you guys get the same feel and that's why I thought may be keep it clean as much as possible. I might have to use some mix in between for some part which has horrible contaminated background.1 point

If you could see the bike it wouldn't be a "teaser" video. It would be, you know, something USEFUL.1 point
-
Do what you think is best. I know people love the raw sounds and people love music, so I've seen a lot of people recently putting in music but lowering the music to just a nice soft background noise and letting the raw sounds supersede everything. Best of both worlds.1 point

I received the cam late yesterday and tried it out on the way to and from the gym...the first while daylight and the next after dark. Works really great! I can read plates on cars in front of me if they are relatively close (a few car lengths) except at night where the license plates are blown out (too bright) because I'm guessing the camera cranks up the ISO. However, the quality of the night video was good though there is no night vision so it has to be illuminated by headlights or streetlights to show up but even things lightly lit appear. My observations/complaints (most are nitpicks) thus far after only 20 minutes of actual use are: The micro SD card gets inserted/ejected from the top of the camera. It's very recessed and without fingernails, it's tough to get at - especially since it's mounted very high on the windshield. Some detail gets blown out at night from headlights but not a big deal unless you want to read someone's plates. The USB port that is used to power it comes from the bottom of the unit - I would've preferred it came from the side The documentation that came with it is not the greatest. I more or less had to figure out for myself how to set the date, time, preferences, etc Time is only captured/displayed in military time (24 hour format). I couldn't find a way to change it to a 12 hour format. The 12V plug has no USB piggyback ports on it like I've seen with other models. The screen is small so you have to get close up when getting it aligned etc to see what's what - though I like that the unit is small so can't have it both ways I'd prefer a wider FOV (it claims 156 degree view) My other 'issue' has nothing to do with the camera and all to do with my car. The rear view mirror is mounted on a large plastic covered piece which houses all of the sensors, etc for rain, cruise distance control, etc. It's pretty big. Most people mount the camera behind the mirror to limit view obstruction. I have to mount mine way over to the passenger side and even more so since after the plastic ends, there's shading that extends further. The driver view is not obstructed still but the passenger has it pretty plainly in front of them.. My wife has yet to get into the car with it installed and I know she's going to bitch complain about it. All in all, if you see it on sale for $60 I think it's totally worth it.1 point

Congrats!!! It's something else for sure. But I have to give my wife most the credit. I've got very little patience and she puts up with most the bullshit. Now at almost 3 months they only wake up once a night usually so it gets better.1 point

So we need to figure out some logistics as we leave in a little over a week. Confirmed from up north we have myself, RHill, TimTheAzn, TimNotAnAzn Brandon is undecided. From Washington PA we have Ron, Bill Undecided Kenny and Musky Is anyone else thinking of heading out next weekend? I can haul 6 bikes (2 in the truck, 4 in trailer) and 4 people, I know Bills trailer can probably fit everything in his trailer if we moved some stuff around but he has those pit bulls mounted up for 4 bikes.1 point

Here's what I wrote a couple months ago about my experience with the 20S. And an update - Normally I don't get on the freeway much so most of my phone calls are city speed, but recently I had my first phone call on the freeway at speed (~75mph) and the person on the other end couldn't even tell I was riding. They didn't hear any wind noise and crystal clear audio on their end as well as mine. Their only indication that something was different was my voice undulating when going over bumps.1 point

Hard to beat a Sena 20s. @RidersDiscount can hook you up with the best deals on Senas. I am running a Sena 10U and really like it, but you gotta have a specific helmet.1 point

I just try not to let the idiots bother me. I'm on a motorcycle and they aren't. I'm the one enjoying life, they aren't. When people are dicks, I just zing around em and keep going and enjoy the rest of my ride. Sure, they are putting me at risk, but me getting angry only puts me at more risk, which is why I don't. PLUS, I won't let anyone ruin the fun I have on a motorcycle... Unless it's police... They always ruin the fun. Always...1 point

550 can seem "boring" especially from the Barlow to Sharpsburg section. It's similar to 78 but depending on the time of year, there will be lots of tractor traffic. May consider 676 as an alternative. Picks up outside of Marietta and goes all the way to 555 that you can either run into Barlow or into Chesterhill. This is mine and @JustinNck1 backyard. Our playground. If you need any scouting done, let us know. We'd be glad to do our part.1 point

Here is the link if anyone wants to download any of these photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHskJqVrgf Didn't go crazy on the photos, I did more video than anything. Started going through the video footage but there's a ton of it so it'll take some time to come up with a video. I'll insert small clips as I get them.1 point

doctor note goes to a more older experienced senior professor like doctor who is my employer I will refuse since I am very jealous of this whole trip or I will let @jbot write one and sign it, that will embarrass you at work forever. I can imagine it being something like this, sight of sheeps causing priapism or bowel bladder incontinence when lifting small weights like a pen. etc but honestly it wont work, since @Tonik will probably send the screen shot of this thread to your employer.1 point
