drug testing for welfare is a waste of money... costs more to administer the tests than it saves by not paying those that fail it.... Not to mention it's easy to cheat a drug test.

Weed should be legal. Politicians and all government employees should be tested or no one should be with the exception of a few highly specialized jobs like commercial pilots.

Pot should be legal....plain and simple. Now it should be no different than alcohol on the job, if you are high you are in trouble. Pot is not a hard drug, it is probably less addictive and harmful than alcohol "hell it grows wild". Now meth, coke, heroin, LSD, crack.......is what many welfare folks are getting high on. THAT IS THE PROBLEM, AND THEY ARE NOT BEING A PRODUCTIVE CITIZEN, plus they are living off of those of us that are. Test way but make mary jane legal damnit!!!!

No one is taking your rights away from you. No where is it legal in the state of Ohio to smoke marijuana or other illegal drugs. My father taught me a lesson a long time ago, no choices without consequences. You make bad choices, you deserve bad consequences. She made a bad choice to carry an illegal drug and got busted for it. Whether you believe it should be legal or not doesn't change the fact that it's currently illegal. That decision cost her a 35 year tenured job, not some politician. People need to take responsibility for THEIR decisions. And guess what, no one is forcing you to work for the state. If you can't pass a drug test or background check, then work at McDonalds selling those perfect Big Macs you love so much. Maybe then people won't make terrible decisions if they know it'll possibly affect their job down the line.

I think this is the point... most of us who work in the private sector are drug tested as part of an initial screening process for new hires, then randomly based on suspicion or "lottery" type rotation, or if we have a recordable accident at work... Government workers shouldn't be tested any more often simply because they work for the government.... you're not special, you shouldn't have special requirements.

Part of this whole problem was like bad said, it being such a deepwater pipeline. Sure the spill would have been terrible had it happened on land, but we also would have been much more capable of getting to the leak and would not have need such extrmem measures to try and stop it. bad324 is completely right and mag, as usual you are so far offbase you are in another galaxy.......as usual.

I'm all for testing welfare slugs for drugs, however, with no exceptions - test all of them. As for gov employees, they're public servants, should be held to a higher standard, and yes, tested. We test in my industry and it weeds out the one's who don't belong, no pun intended.

New state law about four years ago. We had a 57 year old bus driver, perfect record at work her entire career. All because some politician made some feel good law to get re-elected. Same with welfare drug testing. Stupid feel good law so a politician can get his sheep to vote for him again.

Well I used to work in the ICU for children and ran a heart lung machine called ECMO. The pump alone can hold 2-4 units of packed red blood cells, Platelets and Albumin. Some babies can go through a lot of blood quickly. I'm always very thankful to the people that donate and we always made sure we didn't waste the blood we got. Also it doesn't last that long and always needs to be available. Just think, children that are receiving chemo may need blood transfusions or platelets every week or more and these are the healthy ones. The sick ones like the ones I used to see might receive blood two or three times a day. So for all those who donate I thank you and my last motorcycle accident I almost needed blood. My Hct was very low but I was asymptomatic. Lets just hope we have enough people that do donate and don't get pissy when they call. As far as the donation of blood and the red cross charging please.... Ever wonder how much it costs to draw it, separate the blood components, test it, store it, ship it, and to be insured. Those people in their white lab coats aren't cheap.
