I like mine! easily the most competent all-rounder that I've owned. Engine is of two minds about itself; no real power until 5-6k, and the ACTUAL power hits around 7. It allows you to be assertive in traffic without being ludicrous. But, stout enough to haul my heavy ass around with gear on the freeways at super-legal speeds without complaining. As currently geared it pulls ~5.5k at 80mph. The carbs are good and smooth, supposedly much better than the '06-on FI versions. Big gas tank, too, just over 5 gallons; I averaged about 40 mpg all the way back from Heath OH, averaging almost a hundred mph for the trip, including a 5 minute gas stop. Cruising range easily over 200 miles. Suspension is good. Dives a little in front but I'm, again, a very big boy at 6'3" 320. Competent. Leans well, stable through corners, handles bumps nicely. Ergos are great. Very comfortable in a tuck and in cruise mode; I've put several hundred miles at a stretch on mine with no real effort. Wind protection is bad -- fairing is too far forwards and aftermarket windshields don't really do much. The seat is well-padded and pretty comfy, but the front seam splits by the gas tank on the regular. Consider after-market. Bike features are basic. Carb'd like I said, so factor in some more maintenance for those. No ABS; no TC; no electronics really of any kind. Does feature a center stand, which I use more often than not. Headlights are great. I have a full Givi 3-bag setup on mine and it handles the extra weight well. FYI ... Mine might be for sale depending on your level of interest. This bike is fast enough that I have been considering something slower out of a misguided sense of self-preservation.

Profit margins. Race-bred machines need too much engineering these days; easier to make them pretty and loud than it is to make them high-tech and fast.
-
Fastest because the rider is being life-flighted?
-
Plasti-dip on the fairing, run straight headers on the exhaust , and then all you'll have to remedy are the scorch marks on your boots when the bike blasts your ankles with horsepower flames.

It reminds me a lot of that Lotus concept motorcycle that came out a while back. Not sure if want.jpg

Rant on Craigslist Cheap-o, Wanabe, "dont have that much" people
Ryan_c_F replied to flashesbuck's topic in Daily Ride
You could always do what I do, and wait until the bike is broken, and sell it for $500.00 to a forum member. XD -
Was there a few weeks back. They've got a bunch of Italian stuff on the sales floor, and a bunch of off-kilter Hondas (a Stateline, a Goldwing and a Valkyrie I think) and not much else.

I'm actually looking into the Yamaha Roadliner. Really dig those strakes on the gas tank.

Question -- you done anything about the Z12 cam-chain tensioner issues? The starter motor, especially when started in gear, will sometimes overwhelm the automatic tensioner, and the tensioner arm will whack the clutch basket. They have a few set-screw-and-CNC remedies that don't cost too much.

S'already sold so someone was interested, haha. Listing's already taken down.

http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local-news/biker-hit-in-road-rage-crash-speaks-out "He (Vance) had the window down, he was yelling at us, we were yelling at him and all of the sudden, he put the car in reverse about two feet, turned the wheel and just ran right over us," Calderazzo said. "As soon as I saw those wheels turn towards me, I knew this was going south very very quickly.”" I think a decent case for self-defense could have been made here, actually. Regular traffic accident, no. Deliberate actions taken to run someone down, yes. The criterion for armed self-defense in OH is imminent threat of grievous bodily harm or death, and getting run down by a car driven by a psychopath certianly qualifies.

I have an FZ1 and have rented a few Harleys. My personal feeling is that the straight up-and-down seating position stresses your lower back, and there's not really an option to take the strain off. On my FZ1, I can lean forwards, back, stand on the pegs, kick my feet up on the frame sliders, hike my ass back up onto the pillion seat, and so forth. On a sport bike you can stand up on the pegs like jumping a horse and take road imperfections in stride, whereas the cruiser kind of has you locked into one seating position and you end up eating road impacts directly into your ass and spine. That said, my back is kinda bad because I'm starting a diet program about 20 years too late, so YMMV. If you're generally healthy you may not find this to be an issue.

Out with the old (2008 Kawi Versys) in with the new...
Ryan_c_F replied to MarkB's topic in Daily Ride
The new ones are great. Rented a 2014 (when they went to liquid-cooled and digital screens in the fairings) a few years back and threw it around in the White Mountains up near Laconia, NH. Really enjoyed it! The riding position is not kind to my lower back, but that's a personal thing. Good choice. -
I like the idea of those K1200RS's -- seen several within my price range and low mileage (for a BMW), but I hear all these horror stories about the servo-boosted ABS modules failing. I've basically ruled out BMWs with that system, and unfortunately all the ones without are either very old or new and very expensive.

Rode anyway. Wasn't pleasant but had to pick her up from the shop. Saturday was fun, tucked in at 60 mph on the freeway, lol.

My general freeway safety rule is if I can control the time and speed of the pass, it's safest for me. If I let people overtake me from behind with regularity, I am relying on everyone who does so to do so safely... too many cooks spoil the pot, in my opinion. Best to maintain control of your own soup.

Does this model have the servo-assist braking?

That rabbit looks incredible, btw. Super jealous.

Cop pepper sprays large group of motorcyclists on highway in TX
Ryan_c_F replied to Casper's topic in Daily Ride
" you would still be a hypocrite if you drive like these clowns did and complained about being put in danger when you just sis that to dozens of people" Absolutely not. Doing a wheelie with traffic clear is not in any way analagous to using a weapon to blind people and send their lungs into coughing spasms. "Fuck em, they get no sympathy from me. Cop should be fired but they should be in jail." Last I checked, doing a wheelie doesn't nab you jail time. Thirty unjustified assault charges do, though. The cop should be in jail. The riders should catch a few tickets for reckless op, IF THAT. The pack was riding safely in the video; there's no one speeding or doing wheelies to the best of evidence's availability.
