  2. oh hey, and if this app will post pics straight into OR, I will be severely impressed...

  4. I'll match Ben. Either because I rich, a bitch, but not necessarily a rich bitch. Capisce? edit: and you don't get to drop the Droid...
  5. ummm, almost all those reviews look fake to me except for yours. Notice a typical review posted the same day as yours, that pushs yours down where it can't be seen when the page opens...
  6. Still thinking that trying to catch the Aurora Borealis is a decent idea. But there's nothing wrong with a trial run across the lake and back. And you could add Michigan and Wisconsin to your travel map. Doesn't look like a trip on both ships can be done in one day with all the travel there and back and between. But the Badger has a late night departure at 1am back to Michigan, that I suppose people sleep on. The original idea was a way to get to North of Chicago to visit my brother-in-law, without having to fight my way through Chicago on a motorcycle, or have to detour around. Crossing the Lake is 4 to 5 hours longer to Northern Chicago, but 2.5 hour of it is boat ride. http://www.lake-express.com/ http://www.ssbadger.com/home.aspx http://www.wisconsinmaritime.org/index.php
  7. Hooking them up with the rear two wire turn signals is by far the easiest thing to do. They will be exactly the same as the rear lights. This might avoid having to try to adjust the flash rate of the LEDs. Although that's not much different than hooking them up with the correct two of three wires up front. If you don't have any running lights up front anymore, you could always add those somewhere. Or even keep your stock turn signals as running lights. So there's three or four ways to do this, you'll have to decide which one. dang, you could even keep your stock front turn signals, and add the mirror turn signals...
  8. CBR forum: Convert two wire turn signals to three wire input: http://cbrforum.com/forum/how-mechanical-40/convert-2-wire-signals-3-wire-inputs-84998/ Fireblade forum discussion: http://www.fireblades.org/forums/introductions/53980-3-wire-turn-signals-2-wire-led-lights.html lol... ebay instructions on how to hook two wire to three wire (I have doubts after reading "connect to coil"... yikes!) http://reviews.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycle-Turn-Signals-Installation-Guide?ugid=10000000016132105 Yamaha R6 discussion of two to three conversion: http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148648 Honda Shadow discussion of same: http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/72-technical-discussion/85870-leds-turn-signal-wiring-two-wire-leds-work-three-wire.html ok, you get the picture. They are using diodes to load balance the single set of two wire bulb or leds. This makes it light up for running light, and flash full bright for turn signal. Using a three wire input. There still might be a need to adjust the flash rate of LEDs when done. Or, the setup will run the running light, and flash it on off as a turn signal. Not sure if all the instructions are the same.
  9. Argh, so they aren't meant to be running lights? Unless it's using the metal mount as a chassis ground. That's the one thing to check. try hot turn signal on one wire, and hot running light on the other wire. Did this kit come with instructions? Not that instructions are worth anything sometimes... Otherwise it's hooking them up like the two wire lamps in the back. Even if you have to run your wires back there and share connections. wait... I'm going to dig out a 600 schematic... brb Right side: Dual filament bulb up front. The after market is LEDs? The Green is the ground and is common with the headlight, position light and headlight relay. The light blue with white stripe is powered from the right turn signal dimmer switch. The light blue is powered from the instrument cluster, at the right turn signal indicator light. Left side same except orange instead of blue. edit: the rear turn signals are two wire.
  10. Yup, there are turn signals with and without the running light. One is two wire and the other is three wire. Although it might be possible to change the lamp socket and wires to the three wire, I'm going to guess that a similar after market turn signal with 3 wire is available. edit: most Hondas I've looked at, have the three wire in the front and two wire in the back? The back ones flash the running light, and the front ones keep the running light on while flashing? I think. Schematic required to be sure. It's been a while since I messed with them. I was going to convert all to three wire a while back, and lost interest in doing it. Some of the after market turn signals I've looked at definitely had both the two wire and the three wire types for sale. But not all of them.
  11. This is the sister ship, SS Badger. I get the point though, it's not going to be around forever. The SS Badger itself is being studied for possible natural gas conversion. The Badger recently was granted possible exemption from any conversions as a historic landmark. (November 09, 2011) The SS Spartan re-engined with modern diesels was proposed in 2000 for the Muskegan-Milwaukee run that the fast little twin hull is now running. The Spartan is being gutted for parts for the Badger, and has recently become an object of a movement to save it from destruction. The SS Lake Express is a twin hull that carries 46 cars and 12 motorcycles. She is the first high speed auto/passenger ferry to operate on a route on both the Great Lakes and within the Continental United States. 40mph. Maybe I want the wrong adventure. Maybe the trip of choice is to run up there and cross on one ship and back on the other. Skip everything else.
  12. Yes, touch screen. And not just tablets and phones, I guess. There might be a swing toward touch screen desktop monitors. More money to spend... Windows 8 on a desktop will look like... a tablet or phone.
  13. haha, that's Ashley. Us Google+ types talk to her on Google+. She's a trip... The favorite profile pic for Ashley: Kidding! This one:
  14. Yes, this would be an adventure. With the increase in solar activity, the Aurora Borealis should be rather good viewing this Summer. Except it really can't be seen this far South. And I really can't see trying to get to Yellowknife, or Alaska, or flying to Sweden, on short notice. And it would be short notice, since the Aurora events can't really be predicted. So what does that leave. Michigan Upper Peninsula, by motorcycle. Specifically Copper Harbor, MI. Pretty much as straight due North from Ohio that you can get. There's a nice set of lodge log cabins on top of a mountain there. And a place right on the shore of the lake. Both would probably be pretty good viewing of a decent Aurora Borealis event. It's a long ride, but then I saw that cutting across Lake Michigan would save time and give a break. There are two ferries across the lake. A 4 hour ship from Ludington, MI to Manitowoc, WI. And a 2.5 hour high speed ship from Muskegon, MI to Milwaukee, WI. So the questions are; Is it worth the trip? Has anyone ever taken these ferries across the lake? Would it be fun? Is it dumb to take off really pre-dawn like I'm tempted, to get going out of Ohio? Can I make it up and back in one day each? How many days would it take to be reasonably enjoyable to go there? Or an I just dreaming again? Columbus to Muskegon; 350mi, 8.5hr, no freeway (6.5hr on freeway) 2.5 hour boat ride (departs 10:15am or 4:45pm) Milwaukee to Copper Harbor; 377mi, 8.25hr, no freeway or Columbus to Ludington, MI; 415mi, 9.3hr, no freeway 4 hour boat ride (departs 9am or 8:30pm) Manitowoc, WI to Copper Harbor, MI Looks like Muskegon to Milwaukee to get there. Because of the departure times. Maybe the other one on the way back. Ship check-ins are mostly "be there an hour before". It's obviously somewhat faster on a bike, these are Google Map time estimates. All map times and distances were "no toll, no freeway". Time zone changes crossing the lake. Gain an hour West, lose one East. Freeways around cities to save time, no sense going through downtown areas.
  15. Doesn't look like The Dispatch covered it. Channel 4 played it down. "Hurt during confrontation". Channel 6 took the middle road. "Burglary Suspect w/Major Head Trauma."
  16. That's a wonderful museum in Chicago. Check out the Shedd aquarium right next door while you are there. Some of the hotels in Chicago have fantastic views of the city from the rooms. Try to get one of those, it's an experience you will remember forever. For what you are wanting to see, one of the nearby hotels along Michigan Ave would be within walking distance. Or a short cab ride. (Take the cab! This is Chicago! lol) Start picking out some nice restaurants to try out while you are there. Don't pick a hotel that is too far from the downtown area, unless you want to be closer to the shopping areas. In descending order of cost, right downtown on Michigan Ave (all within a mile through the park): Renaissance Blackstone Hilton Chicago Essex Inn Congress Plaza Hotel Best Western Grant Park (closest to museum) Chicago's Essex Inn (cheap) Hotels in the shopping areas, mostly just North of the river are mostly a little more expensive. Hotels in the Financial Loop downtown are two or three times the cost or more. The maximum that I see is the Trump Hotel Chicago starting at $420. edit: Charlie Trotter's Restaurant is closing in August 2012. Considered one of the best in the world. (Yikes! 700 bucks to eat there...)
  17. I wear out any of the "glue welts" like that. But the stitched Goodyear welts will last me 2 years, and could go a third year (barely), but I just get new ones. I used to have shoe shops repair them, but that costs as much as new boots now. IF you can find a decent repair shop. (There's still one on Parsons Ave, I think.) And yeah, the prices have climbed much higher on boots. Boot price shock here. I was looking for new boots also. So I'm paying attention to what everyone thinks. I just might be switching brands of boot. I've tried a few pairs of 40-60 dollar "foreign" made duty/work boots. They barely last 4 to 6 months. And they aren't good for your feet. Very sad that many supposedly American boots are just high prices on cheap products from off shore.

  19. two blondes and a pepperoni pizza? oh wait, wrong forum... We all haven't been getting out as much as we used to. Maybe we work too much, I don't know. But weekday nights and weekends can still find time to do things on a motorcycle. Rain this last year didn't help, compared to previous years. If we can get a break from rain, it will be better. I'm a bit tired of the "standard" bike night. (Even though I ride a standard, har har.) I dislike being the only non cruiser showing up. It happens. Some majority sport bike events would be nice to see.
  20. Wellingtons? Holy crap. I used to wear Justin brand Wellingtons. Big name in Texas boots. I don't know about local sources, I had to order them from the factory in Texas. I did that because they had them in narrow sizes. Justin has at least one Vibram sole pull-on Wellington: Briar Pitstop They've got lace boots, but I favor Wolverines for that: Wolverine has a lot of Vibram soled choices: I usually discount mail order them from somewhere, or some of them can be found at Meyer's. edit: I noticed one of the safety gear stores up in Dublin has Wolverines at nearly mail order prices. Wolverine also has pull on Wellingtons. I haven't tried those. Note that Caterpillar boots are made by Wolverine now. I think. At least I've seen it on the side of the shoe boxes. Wolverine boots with Vibram soles Basic 6 inch with Vibram - Barkley - Wolverine DuraShocks® WP Insulated 6" Boot I used to wear these, especially riding an old school motorcycle:
  21. Carrier pigeons... I'm going to raise and stock carrier pigeons...
  22. MadCat, riding in a car is supposedly just as risky as on a motorcycle. Perhaps it's just because we're in a four wheeler so much more often. Or that we travel on crowded roads. I don't know. It's fair to say everything in life is a risk worth taking.
  23. I have been browsing the boondocking or "dispersed camping" websites. Basic reasoning is that primitive camping on most federal park land, and some state park land, is either completely free or very low cost. Also searching for the appropriate sleeping bag, mat, and tent or tarp to fit up to a bike. Finding good gear that packs up small isn't easy. Or isn't easy to pick one from all the choices. I do see that all three should be strapped down on top of everything else. More or less the first items off when stopping for the night. They should be packed in good quality water proof or water resistant stuff bags. edit: compass, map, gps, first aid gear
  24. And this is why all my knives are covered with sticky tape adhesive from opening boxes. No intent here, move along... work use only, tyvm.
  25. Seems to be about the same as getting hit with a shotgun beanbag. Ouch. The other one, hope he enjoys his burn scars. Looks semi-permanent.
