  1. There's several RPVs there at the Air Force Museum. There isn't anything real current listed as being there, but I thought I saw one last time I went there. If there is a newer one there, it isn't on their list. Boeing Bird of Prey Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk General Atomics RQ-1 Predator edit: Yeah I did see one. Here it is... Boeing X-45A J-UCAS

    Deer Season

There's an elk breeder farm right across the county border from where he found it. No word on if it's an escapee. Although I once swore I had found elk tracks along a river in Ohio.

  4. Most all stuff has an option to burn a bootable CD now.
  5. btw, first bank of RAM can cause crash on boot. Second bank of RAM can cause crash later while running. You might scan your RAM memory. (Or at least reseat the memory modules. Download and make a floppy: Windows Memory Diagnostic
  6. I've had services whacked by viruses. It's hard to track down what went wrong and fix it up. Most recently I found one that had the proxy server turned on. The computer could surf HTTPS but not HTTP websites. (IE only, the FireFox wasn't attacked.) Easy fix, but moderately infected. Had to clean it out. Most reboot/crashes I've seen are by-products of viral attacks. Although updates from MicroSoft can cause problems also. And there was one last week that killed a few computers. (Boots to black screen, looks like a dead hard drive but it's only a dead op sys.) MicroSoft swears they didn't do it. But some combination of factors during the update caused it.
  7. Not really, we could probably find one or more from Northrup and even Boeing that look just like it. Northrup RPV for US Navy unmanned shipboard attack fighter program:
  8. I go with the Malwarebytes also. I will add that I rename the mbsetup exe to anything else (mb.exe is typically what I use.), since it's known to be attacked when executed. That's a hint that it actually does the job of removing the crap. They single it out for attack. I also use SuperAntiSpyware (also free). Between these two, will clean most all stuff. If you want to clean registry and temp files first, I use CCleaner (CrapCleaner). Also free, and works wonders. Use it first. Make several passes to get it all. Clean your apps also with the other option. Use the registry backup option on the first pass. Scan in safe mode, and/or regular, as many times and in any order as necessary to remove the bad stuff. How I scan is based on experience with dealing with viruses every day. Sometimes a little help is needed with other software to remove stuff, but that's best left to higher skill levels. With your computer, I'd probably download and install the 3 softwares, update the two scanners while installing, run the cleaner, reboot to safe mode and scan with malwarebytes in quick mode, then reboot into safe mode again and scan with superantispyware in full mode. Reboot normal, and run both scans again. It's going to take a while. Disconnect all external drives first. Reboot is your friend, reboot after each scan. If it blocks download sites, etc, or fights with you about it... then get the software from another computer and copy it onto the computer, or use safe mode with networking. Install and update. Usually after the first safe mode scan with the malwarebytes it will start to settle down and let you work on removing viruses/trojans. I wouldn't trust putting credit card numbers into that computer anymore. edit: what Justin said... Spybot can pick up a few more that were missed by the other two scanners. I used to use it all the time as a third scanner, and sometimes scanning with it first, but lately not so much.
  9. A similar RPV (Remote Piloted Vehicle) was used to snoop around in China back in the late 60s. Fifty years ago.
  10. Sometimes I see stuff in the mil-spec news that is just not ordinary. Wired.com DangerRoom

  12. Dang dude, I want one also. I've had several German Shepard or Belgians, but don't have one right now. Another Malinois is what I was thinking of after having a female black Groendal and a male tan/white Malinois. Any Belgian Sheepdog/Shepard is great.
  13. Moon halos are common this time of year. From the ice crystals in the air up there. It's actually the refraction of Moonlight through the ice crystals that causes the halo/rainbow effect.
  14. Ha, I gave up waiting for the Black & Decker 18v trimmer and batteries to come to work with someone... Maybe I can swing by to get it this weekend or something. I guess that means I still want it.
  15. Pain is the body's way of healing itself. Masking the pain doesn't promote good healing. Don't know if it's true or not, it's just what I think is true... edit: I mean think about it, why should the body heal up if it's not in pain?
  16. +1 on the New Balance, but get the catalog to see the types and styles. They have specific types that fit up to specific types of feet. Confusing but the catalog explains it. I wear combat boots when I walk/jog/run. Reports I've read indicate that combat boots are the least likely to cause leg and foot damage when running. I don't like jogging, I prefer sprints. Run as far as you can as fast as you can. Especially broken field running like through the woods. Best I've ever done is two miles. I'm happy with that. Yeah, first time I tried I got less than a half block. Just keep doing it every day. Get your respiration up and running for cardio, breath deeply...
  17. Good advice. I've canceled many, for any reason I want to. My credit rating does not change. If anything, it gets better, judging by the dozens of offers for credit cards I'll get when I get rid of one. I'll even cancel a credit card for changing to charging me an annual fee. Which usually happens to me after the first year, since I refuse to carry a debt on the card. I pay it off as I go. You do not have to be in debt to have a credit rating. It only shows that you know how to, and are willing, to repay a debt. Having cash in a bank or brokerage account gives you a good credit rating also.
  18. If AttackPainter can get them stripped, I'd do it. Soaking is a mess, doesn't work like it is supposed to, and definitely has potential for ruining the plastic. Most sandblasting media would chew right into the plastic as well. Chrome is so hard, a reverse electro plating is probably the best way.
  19. It's always possible that one of the chemicals will mess up the plastic. But in general, this is what people use on polystyrene plastic. The motorcycle part is probably ABS or polypropylene, I'm guessing. Put a scrap part in the pinesol and see what happens. And yes, sometimes I don't have much success with trying to soak stuff off of plastic. It's frustrating... edit: The brake fluid will definitely mess up paint. Don't get it on paint. The oven cleaner probably would also. Actually, don't let any of them get on the paint. Too harsh, and it would blemish or remove it.
  20. Chrome can be taken off of plastic model parts a variety of ways. But your chrome is a lot thicker. Not sure what would work. Things that work (sort of) on thin chrome on plastic models: Castrol Super Clean Fantastic Formula 409 Pinesol chlorine bleach E-Z Off Oven Cleaner dot 3 brake fluid In most cases, the part is completely immersed or soaked, sealed in a bag, until it works.
  21. ok, I've looked inside thousands of computers and electronics and never seen anything like that. (IP's pics) The closest to it was a computer from a chemistry lab, and it was all corroded and rusty inside. I wouldn't work on it either. I'd throw it away.
  22. The "battery recalibration" thingy of one sort or another works with any rechargable. It's worth a try. I usually don't get much more life out of it, but you never know. What Gixxie750 said... Batteries Plus is where we go at work to beat the other prices.
  23. What Strictly Street said... Plus I've always heard I need to open it up and look at the lamps in order to get a replacement. I've heard it's a delicate operation. You should know that the same symptoms can be the inverter card. Where you can see an unlit ghost image on the screen. All I can say is that if the bulbs weren't getting black on the sides/corners of the picture, it's probably the inverter card. And I only know a few laptops, not any tvs. Also don't know what an inverter card costs. My one laptop has had two inverter cards and one screen w/bulbs replaced...still works... I got lucky on one big screen, a wire was off the inverter card, solder fixed it. edit: What I'm talking about here is a hack job. Replacing the bulbs INSIDE the screen assy. Not normally done that way. The assembly should be replaced as a unit. The screen assembly isn't always available as a replacement part. It really is a very few parts that is generally disposable when it stops working.
  24. El Cheapo clamp - $8.95 plus flashlight. Lots of places have these simple clamps for stuff. I get LED flashlights that have a laser in them also. Found the flashlights at ACE Hardware for about 10 bucks. (It's a really freakin' nice laser!) I wouldn't turn it on unless I already had the target located. Meaning they already know where I am also. The light or laser helps intimidate.
