I know I have been lucky because the design/placement of all the components of the rear brake is horrible. That is not the only place where a German surely would have made it work better over looking better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have got to contribute here about the rear brake. I do not doubt that some bikes have a non functioning rear brake. Mine is a 2013 with 15k miles and the rear brake has always worked. The fluid is black because it gets cooked by the catalytic converter. I have never bled it and I can still activate the ABS if needed. Remember these bikes are hand built which sounds nice, but Mario may have partied a little too hard the night before working on your bike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've never ridden a vstrom, but I imagine some of the things that work for my Multi apply. First was to increase the preload on the front forks. It really improved the stability at highway speeds. Second is to drop your elbows out of the wind. The wide/high bars have a lot more leverage to move the front end when your body gets hit with cross winds. As Claine650 said, the bike will be more stable with only one hand on the bars and leaning back comfortably because you won't have the extra input on the bars. Just my $0.02, hope it helps

The gas tank itself swelling is not a problem, it is the surrounding pieces that suffer. The $10 gas can may be swelling also, it just doesn't have multiple plastic body panels screwed together on it that crack when what they are attached to gets bigger. From what I have read, cars with plastic gas tanks swell also. They are mounted under the car where there are no adverse effects from the change in size.

Just the std 2 yr warranty. In Columbus there is nowhere convenient to get ethanol free gas. I have made a small change to how I get gas. I used to keep the tank full all the time, stop on the way home and fill up. Now I leave the tank empty more often. I will fill it up on my way out for a ride, so it is hardly ever completely full. Seems to be working so far. Tank is still in good shape.

I got out the day after Christmas. I had a battery die (yes, less than 2 years old) and put in an old Lithium battery, Pulse P2, I had left over from my old track bike. I wanted to see how it did in the cold weather. It did just fine, but it was not even cold enough to run the heated gear.

I have one in my helmet. The instructions say it is not for night use because it is 10% shade (something like that). I use it day/night, hot/cold. It works very well for fog and I don't really notice it any other time. It is clear and fine for night use in my experience.

I posted this a year ago in another thread, but it is still true: "When I was in my 20s I rode in the winter because I had to and hated it. Now in my 40s I ride in the winter because I want to and I love it." It is just a different experience than riding on a nice warm sunny day. With the right gear, it is just as fun. But I also like riding in the rain, so....

A friend of mine completed his 1500/24 this summer on his second try (missed the first time by 15 minutes, second try done with 6 minutes to spare). I am not that ambitious. I am sure I could do a 1000/24.
