The better ones are Kevlar mesh or a better abrasian-resistent material than polyester. Motoport makes a very good one, Rev-It too. Not cheap, but neither is an ER run and road-rash scrub. I owned a JR Phoenix and a First Gear Torrent, but both leave a lot to be desired for crash protection. The Phoenix melted BAD on a gravel road slide on my elbow and shoulder, came right through the padding too...wouldn't trust that jacket at all on the pavement, but I suppose it's better than a T-shirt. Maybe.

Where your analogy suffers is that even the slowest motorcycle is subject to the same dangers and the same forces that the fastest supersport is, on the road, and the same statistical chance that something UTTERLY out of your hands or skill set will cause you to be on the ground. This isn't bi-planes and high-altitude jets, a 30mph slide on the pavement will be the same if you came off of a scooter or a 1098 Duc. And, all the skill in the world might not overcome something like mechanical failure, a freak accident, diesel spilled all over a turn, etc. Sometimes, you just go down. I wish we could pick the times and the place. Gear has gotten very good, very comfortable, and affordable. I find it sad people talk themselves out of it so often, but it's their skin.

True enough, but you stand a better chance of living through it, might even learn something. Naked squids tend to end their education quickly. I'm amazed how few people who say they wear gear neglect to wear any sort of leg protection. In every get-off I've ever had, dirt or street, my legs took a beating (or I should say the gear did). I don't consider jeans protection from anything but the sun....even if I wear draggin jeans (which isn't that often), I have knee-armor under them. That particular area has ALWAYS hit the ground hard when I've been off the bike.

Mesh is your friend in the heat, so is light colored gear. I have the Rev-It AIR jacket and pants. Awesome quality, super light, and good protection. As for why no one questions Harley riders for no gear? Because they're Wild Hogs and it's a rolling fashion show. We tend to scoff at flip-flop sportbike riders because they should know better, given the equipment they've chosen.
  5. Kids eat free on Mondays, that does it for me. Honestly, some of their sammiches are pretty good. Their steaks are weak, but fuck feeding a family for under $30 at a sit-down joint? I'll fucking take it, I can't get out of Arby's or Chipotle for that. Speaking of which, Chipotle serves beer and they're a no-go too, so hopefully this bastard gets signed.
  6. In looking at Bikebandit's fiche, the ZX11 has 1 bushing per-fork. That's all I can see that looks like it might be a replacement part per-fork service, but the manual will tell you if there's anything else.
  7. A: It reflects the quality of my work. B: The gratuity is prison sex. Repeat customers are rare.
  8. It's easy stuff if you can follow the directions, you don't even really need a seal driver you can make one out of PVC easy enough. I'd be happy to help you out, but I'm out in Granville dunno if you wanna come that far. I've got a 43mm driver and the hex for the front axle. My rate is one six pack of cold beer, non-negotiable. The big thing people forget or neglect is replacing or double-checking that the teflon-coated bushings are still intact and in proper shape. More often than not, they need replacing....I'm pretty sure the ZX has teflon bushings.
  9. Still open. Right now, probably still a mud pit.
  10. Yeah, found that out the hard way...but City Barbecue in Gahanna made a good consolation prize. Parked next to a brand new Multistrada 1200 there, damn that's a cool bike.
  11. I'll be going through J-town, because I'm starving and I want some Rte. 62 Barbecue on my way to work.
  12. WTF is this shit? I wanted some stories about rectal prolapses and this is what I get?
  13. Key to gravel is to relax your grip, let the bike move underneath you and don't fight it. The back WILL move around, but keep the front pointed where you wanna go and it'll track. The throttle will bring the back back to traction through the turns if it breaks loose.
  14. Sharp, I like it! Ready to get it filthy on the gravel and fireroads?
  15. It's a stunt that will lose air quickly. Trump's politics are all over the map, from whacky liberal to whacky republican.
  16. "Ghetto" is the ruination of things that make sense. Fashion with no form, show of opulence while living in shit, it's a bizarre and stupid world filled with very stupid people flapping their arms in vain. What the ghetto makes fashion just naturally repulses me.
  17. Hate to second guess every wreck, but this one's about 80% on the rider - the cars in front brake-check, he panic-stops, hard (indicating he was too close or distracted), car behind him is on the brakes but hits him (this isn't even really that bad on the car, the bike can out-brake the bike and some motorists don't know or forget this). Every wreck is a lesson - this one says give yourself a bigger cushion and stay alert in heavy traffic....oh and watch your six!
  18. Nice ride! Love the white with silver rims, that's the best looking scheme the Stroms have ever come in. When my Vee's paint is due for a re-shoot, I'm doing white and having the black rims bead blasted.
  19. Awesome, wear out the rear tire and bearings without any joy riding it!! Oh, and drivetrain is going to love spinning free like that....probably really good for chains, belts and metal-on-metal. Oh, and a fender bender totals the bike you're not riding while driving it into the car you are, so double-damage...while also exposing it to spray & kicked up debris. Seems like something you'd do to a bike you didn't like.
  20. I find the use of "white space" to be pejorative. It indicates that people somehow think Caucasians are vapid or don't have the same value as the other color spaces, and this sickitates me. I demand reparations. Where's David Duke to speak out on this outrage? WE WILL OVERCOME! Carry on.

I found a superb alternative, that's nearly free. Eat less, work out. It's fucking amazing. IM me if you want details. I'll talk to some people and see if I can get you on the ground level of this thing.
  22. Smooth should be all you're EVER focused on when learning. Everything else is a byproduct of smooth, including saving your ass when things go badly. Forget speed. That's the goal of someone intent on wadding themselves up.
  23. Yeah, it's a mess too. That's where a big adventure bike with long suspension and a big front wheel comes in handy.
  24. Before they resurfaced it that road was like something out of Mad Max...much better now!
  25. The thrill just changes, it never goes away. At first the pure excitement to be on two wheels was enough. Then, it was learning new techniques, becoming a better rider, then it was trying all the different kinds of riding or bikes, then exploration, then offroad, then a track day. Yikes...that's an expensive progression! Anyway, even after being well used to it some days I go out and it makes me feel new again.
