  1. but that system i just bought will be so much better cause of the monster cables i bought for it. the total cost of the cables were only 53% of the total build budget. a fucking bargain.
  2. it's not sold yet. i got your pm, i'll text you later on. thanks for your interest. for some reason, i'm getting contacted by you (presumably in Cali) and a guy from jacksonville lol
  3. i dont have a specific usage requirement yet. i just want to be able to pop in games that come out in the next couple years and not have to fret about playing it at some god awful setting.
  4. on the other hand, there is an i7 build option that is close in price: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0379093 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0383144 orrrr, i could still get the i5 2500K for 160 and find a different board than the one i was going to buy (a z68 board). the board i WAS going to buy was $70... but they are discontinued, apparently, and out of stock. lame.
  5. i'm going to ignore the ignoramus comments. last minute thoughts on this setup? i'm about to head to microcenter ASUS P8Z77-V PRO LGA 1155 Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard $170 i5 3570K (unlocked) $190 and some ram (I'll probably start with 2x4gb but maybe get another 8 later) i'm going to have them put those components together, test it to make sure it's put together right, and then bring it home. i couldnt find anything super duper well priced at microcenter for GFX, so unless i see something while i'm there, i'm gonna order something online... anyone have more suggestions on specific well price-fairly high performance GFX card(s), that would be appreciated. i'm going to check out the ones suggested already while i'm at microcenter. thanks again all
  6. any legitimacy in people saying that nvidia cards are better (for intel build) because ati-amd cards are native to AMD processors and nvidia is closer to intel?
  7. thanks for your recommendations. it's an excellent budget build. i always get into trouble with these things cause i go crazy thinking "well, if i just spend a little bit more" and before i know it, i'm building a $2000 computer.
  8. i went to microcenter today to see what they had there. they didn't have a z68 board in stock i wanted to look at (same as what cheech got) but they might get it in tomorrow. if so, i'm putting in an order for i5 2500K with the z68 board an some ram i'm going to buy for now. i might return the ram. i'm going to have them put those components together and test to make sure everything checks out (I have a tendency to break these things, and everything else i touch), they quoted me $10 so i didn't think it would hurt. i'm going to start ordering the other junk (SSD, GPU) tomorrow, assuming they get the board in. if not, i'm going to have to re-evaluate my options. thanks for all your help so far. keep the advice coming. if the board i want doesnt come in tomorrow, i am still considering the i7 option as it is about $150-ish more overall. anyone have recommendations on GPU? the one they tried to sell me was like $400+ for a ATX 670 or something like that.
  9. hmm, ok. i guess unless i hear something compelling to the contrary, i'm going to start aiming my focus on the "value/efficient" build. so... z68 or z77? i actually dont even know what the hell a z77 is.
  10. wait, we're ordering shirts? jbot: 1 med and 1 large DONE inb4 DONE, son <-- Confused me!
  11. if i can get your (and whoever else has been paying attention to the game for the last... say... 6 years) opinion on this bit: should i even bother trying to at least get the motherboard i think i could swap a "better" processor into later? what socket would that be? or is there even a point? that last part is basically my basis for wanting a socket 2011 system. is that foolish? cause right now, i can get a i7 3820 processor for 200 at microcenter and a suitable mobo for about 250-ish... the mobo, i could put a "newer" processor into later, but will they even be releasing "newer" 2011 socket processors 2-3 years from now?
  12. ok, so i saw and read this: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/diqq9/your_thoughts_on_future_proofing/ is this the general consensus? should i even bother trying to at least get the motherboard i think i could swap a "better" processor into later? what socket would that be? or is there even a point? that last part is basically my basis for wanting a socket 2011 system. is that foolish? cause right now, i can get a i7 3820 processor for 200 at microcenter and a suitable mobo for about 250-ish... the mobo, i could put a "newer" processor into later, but will they even be releasing "newer" 2011 socket processors 2-3 years from now?
  13. not sure if this will help anyone, but this site kinda lays it out for stupid nubs like me: http://www.gamingpcbuilds.com/ it says exactly what hardware is recommended. i'm looking at the $1500 build: http://www.gamingpcbuilds.com/best-gaming-pc-build-under-1500/ any thoughts?
  14. feel free to post it here so we can all bask in the glory of your pierced pin
  15. i know that right now, the i5 is more than adequate, but i'm also guessing that in the next couple years software companies will find ways to bloat their crapware to match (if history is any indicator). i'd rather overkill it now than say to myself "great, windows 9 or crysis 4 is out and now i have to upgrade my processor (and probably motherboard) again" 2-3 years from now. maybe i'm being paranoid. lol
  16. you guys are so nice. thanks for all the helpful posts. i did a bit more reading on i5 versus i7. as per posts in this thread, it seems that i5 is still more than adequate for anything out there now, but if i can find a decent motherboard without spending a gazillion dollars on it to go with it, i'll probably just go with the i7. anyone have a recommendation on a 1155 or 2011 socket atx motherboard (I honestly dont even know if there's a difference) and a good heatsink? it sounds like my scythe ninja will not work. let's be honest, i only bought that heatsink cause of the name.

i doubt they would charge you just to check something out, but good luck with the search
  21. i'm told SSD makes a BIG difference for OS performance, so I'll probably stick with that i was also told there are issues with certain ssd's that fail within a few months of use, or other issues. are there any particular ssd's people have at least a few months experience with?
  22. then get on your computer and provide some verification. this isn't one of your totally unfounded, poorly supported liberal tirades, you know. ...ohhhhhh ho ho ho ho ho
