I called the builder just for their input (can't be the first time they've been presented with this question) about weight on 2nd floor. Home has a nice alarm system. Dog forthcoming I hope! Insurance is a given.

It's 730 pounds per their specs and will be set on the room wall that is shared with the stairwell coming up. I figure another 90 to 110 pounds of items stored and that's w/o ammo! I called the builder (Dominion) and asked for their floorplan (built 2008). With the plans I'll look to see if it can be bolted, but have my doubts.

To countermeasure the weight distribution concern, I plan on double (triple?) layers of 3/4" plywood the for the entire closet (about 18 square feet) foor and rest the safe atop. Height clearance isn't an issue, and the it'll be covered with a cloth for presentation. Kinda "Appalachian William" I know, but cant easily find a strong easily cut plastic base like those plastic pallets.

Their H1 steel (updated X15 TN if memory serves) is getting excellent feedback amount divers. And we need the serrated edge to help with cutting. Though my favorite by far for performance is the Trilobite, except for gripping. Safe, easily changed blade. Just wish they employed a more ergo handle.

Thanks for the anti-scratching advice, as it's something I hadn't considered! Looking at the addition of more LED lighting to help.
