  1. The threat was handled appropriately for the situation. The woman holding the knife could have been shot justifiably. The police didn't have the time to make a diagnosis of her mental capacity and acted swiftly for their own and others safety. Proper training took over and no one was hurt except the bad guy, I call that a success. Knowing after the fact that the woman has Alzheimer’s makes their actions even more appropriate. I don't know how much time many of you have spent around Alzheimer’s patients but violence and irrational behavior are very common. Her care givers are at fault here for giving her access to the knife and for not supervising her. Stupid hurts no matter what your age is. I do feel sorry for her and regret she was put in the situation for which she was not responsible if she truly suffers from Alzheimer’s.
  2. I have tried the get out early route and found it to be fail. The road is too slippery to have any fun and be safe. I'm talking about 1/2 hour after sunrise, it does get better later when the crowds get out and maybe that’s why it gets crowded then. I have personally had more problems with sport bike riders on the gap, cruisers are easily dispatched but sport bike riders tend to think no one should be passing them so they won't let you by. It is not a race track so I won't make a marginal pass. As stated many times there are great roads in the area to explore when the gap is crowded so you can't have a bad day being down there.
  3. Thank you so much for putting this ride together, I had a great day and can't stop thinking about it. Of course if I do stop thinking about it just moving reminds me because I'm sore all over and it's getting worse as the day goes on. I would also like to thank the guys who sacrificed their ride to make things go smoothly. Everyone was really nice to me and if they were complaining about me I didn't hear it. I hope I didn't hold up anyone too badly and ruin their ride. This was only my third time riding a dirt bike since about 1976 so I was just holding on for dear life thinking to myself this is going to hurt. I got lucky and didn't hurt myself or the borrowed bike I was riding. I'm sorry for not being more social but most of the conversations were about dirt bikes and types of riding on trails most of which I know nothing about so I mostly just listened to try and learn something. I wish I could have help people when they were stuck but I was having a hard time just staying on the bike. At one point going up a climb I had to stop, I couldn't breath, my muscles were like jelly and my brain said it wasn't going to make another decision. I sat there for a few minutes then CJ (KTMRIDERS brother and my personal baby sitter) said just make to the top then take a break. I make it to the top when KTMRIDER and CJ say "That was a fun climb lets go back down and do it again." meanwhile I'm gasping for air and need to lie down. I guess when you don't have a death grip on the bars and you remember to breathe because your not scared to death riding is much easier. I would also like to thank KTMRIDER for letting me use his son’s bike, that recluse clutch made things a lot easier for me out there by taking one more task off of my hands to let me enjoy a great day which I know I will remember for a long time.
  4. Ugh Mike, I will be riding the KTM but I doubt I'll be representing Orange. I have a feeling I will be able to rock a scooter after tomorrow though. Spending a day with scooter controls can't hurt.
  5. This should help muddy the water and I'm sure it wasn't the first time. http://www.ohio-riders.com/showthread.php?t=21486&highlight=liter
  6. Not wanting to post anything controversial I take that back, I am sorry for my transgression. Without the creepy little action figure I am powerless. It's my go fast button, take it away and I might as well be riding a cruiser. I think everyone should strap one on the back of their bike to see how much faster it makes them go. Just remember you learned that little go fast tip here first kids.
  7. I love the tap dancing mouse but being a Flashdance fan I think they could have done that clip more justice because the rest of it could stand up to much critical scrutiny.
  8. Look at these. I'm sure there will be opinions to follow but they are worth looking at. They seem to fit most of your criteria. If discussion is what you want I don't have any personal experience with them but they can be had inexpensively with lots of goodies. Hopefully some here will have some real world constructive input about these. It all boils down to your wants and desires since motorcycles are not necessities, get what you think will move you. I ride a 2003 600 not because it's what I was looking for but the right deal came at the right time. If a similar deal came up I would move on to something else. I like to experience different bikes. You may get what you think you want only to find out you think there is something better for you after you live with it for a while. Good luck!
  9. Does this count as a WTF video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KourNZt0EKk
  10. I forgot about the gloves, I brought two pairs and the wet ones are probably molding in my bags right now. I did get to put a cover on the baby though so the little creepy action figure could stay dry. One of the reasons we were able to do this many miles even with the rain in such a short time was these two guys decided they didn't need to stop for lunch. No whining or complaining just man up and ride. None of this I want to go to the Ivy, I have to eat, slow the ride down bullshit.
  11. You should bring your dad the next time we go riding that Super Blackbird would love to see these roads. I had a CBR1100XX several years ago and really like those bikes. I understand just visiting Tennessee I used to take my bike down there for visits before I lived down there for a while. This was before the internet and I didn't know about Deal Gap at the time. I only lived about an hour and a half from it. My pants dried you quickly after it stopped raining how long did it take for yours to dry out? When the roads got dry and we could ride I forgot all about them being wet at all. I guess you had a good time even without rain gear.
  12. You did a great job keeping up I am impressed with your riding skills with this being your first street bike and having no dirt bike experience. I don't know why you didn't wreck though because some people seem to think if two or more people get together and ride someone has to go down. I like to ride quickly on these back roads but never out of control when it was wet or damp we kept the pace slow and never had to wait for anyone, I don’t know why some would think we would have ridden otherwise especially after they have ridden with me before. 536 is relentless with curves but how did you like 255? You don't need to go all the way to Tennessee to find good roads. If you want to go out exploring on your own just ask me or Tony and we can give you some other roads that you might find just as much fun as yesterdays.
  13. Other than mini bikes I learned to ride a motorcycle with gears on a trials bike. I was friends with a boy whose family traveled all over to events and I tagged along. There were 6 kids, four boys and everyone had a trials bike. I even rode one in a hair scramble once but had to remove the front fender because all the mud kept locking up the front tire. It's been well over 30 years since I've touched one though and they look quite a bit different now.
  14. Made it home safe just needed a nap. 427 miles, moving 7:44 with average moving speed of 55.1, total trip time of 9:33 with an overall average speed of 44.6 Doomking meet Tpoppa and me at the CircleK with the roads somewhat damp and intermittent drizzle. We decided to give it a go with the hopes that the rain had already passed through. Wrong, it came down pretty good once we got close to Millersburg. Doomking turned around just about 500 feet before we made it to the Speedway on the south side of Millersburg to meet Big Speazy. Tony filled in the rest of the ride report as accurate as necessary. Big Speazy did a good job keeping up and I thought it was cool of him to decide to head out in the rain with us. I hope he is glad he decided to go on with us to discover some new roads he hadn't been on before. We kept to the original route I had planned for Big Speazys sake. Tony and I have both been on 536 and while it's challenging it’s not my most favorite road. We probably would have taken a different route if it would have been just the two of us but I'm glad we went across 26. I haven't been on that road for a couple of years and it's in much better shape. We did get to do 255 and I love that road, it’s not as clean as it was when it was first paved but its still fun. Fuck you non hacking Nancys who couldn't get wet. The road is boring to Millersburg anyway and we only missed about a half hour of the good roads at a hard pace. We missed another half hour to 45 minutes where we weren't sure what pace to set because of damp spots. I made it home by 6:00 with my bike a little dirty but had a good day riding. You guys are dead to me in this thread you bunch of posers.
  15. We'll see what the weakest link say's with a phone call at 8:00 Am, plus we know where he lives if necessary.
  16. Glad to have you along Tony. It might rain on us sometime tomorrow. I will still be going expecting it not to be raining all over the state. I understand others not wanting to though. Pat, you got them forks done yet or are you riding the Duc Udell, I know you have your tire replaced and your fancy GPS all mounted no excuses. Is your GPS a Garmin? Can you download maps to it? I can send you the mapsource file of the route. Justin, am I calling you early in the morning to make sure you get up in time? Our first gas stop will be at the Speedway in Millersburg to pick up Big Speazy. The baby doesn't wear a helmet but it does wear eye protection. I think I can put a helmet on both sides of the bike. Riding by myself would that make me extra cool?
  17. 99% will be wearing proper gear, maybe 100% but that's up to him. Fast is a relative thing some may find the pace too slow and some too fast. Come out and ride with us and if it's too slow the route is simple enough that anyone can lead just wait for the group at the intersections and turn offs.
  18. Lance (Wheezle, Ol' Springer, etc) Schleprock Nice talking to you Lance, call if you need anything.
  19. Before you go to Lorain you might want to call their Grafton store to see what they have there. The store is right on 82 so it would be easy to get to from Strongsville. If you buy from that store you still get a half hour of range time at their Lorain location. I am currently carrying a Kahr PM9 with the diamond black finish. I like carrying it better than the Sig232 but it might be because I finally found a holster that I like.
  20. Yes, the Speedway south of town next to McDonalds works out well.
  21. That car is there just about every Sunday. It does sound nice. It can't do a burnout when leaving like most of the cars do because it hooks up too well I'm guessing because I've never seen him do it.
  22. I think you're trying to make my head explode switching around all the controls. You guys are going to have big fun making fun of me.
