  1. Last time i went to PR and visited friends, most of their friends were more interested in PR becoming an independent nation, not a state.
  2. Where are Duc dealers in Ohio? Do you have to take a warrantied bike to one of them?
  3. You're talking to a guy who's planning to drive 1200 miles round trip and blow an entire weekend to save $300 in shipping costs! Don't get me wrong, I'm not financially crumbling, but $1000 is still $1000. Not to mention fuel costs to drive 1200 miles round trip plus taxes when I register it in Ohio. Not to mention some loan interest accruing until i sell the R6 and get my tax refund. Besides, my dad was the kind of guy who made me get a second plate of food at the buffet cause we were damn sure getting out money's worth! I can't help it. LOL! Well if can pull off getting this thing for $8k I just might!
  4. They dont use standard/metric sockets or something? I'm sorry, did you say $1,000 for routine scheduled maintenance? I assume the S4R was a bit more for the 7500 mile service given the 4-valve engine vs. 2-valve...
  5. Don't get too perturbed by my hesitancy! As far as maintenance, i'm not a terribly high mileage rider, so a 7500 mile interval is probably gonna be once every 3 years for me. And I've heard these are fairly easy to wrench on yourself, which I've always done with maintenance type work on my vehicles, so long as they aren't major engine work. Plus aren't you one of our resident OR Techs? I'd certainly look into our local guys here for work so be excited
  6. 2012 doesn't have an S edition. And if his starting offer is basically $9000, why wouldn't I try to work it down? And I AM a cheapass, just with expensive tastes... :-P
  7. That's a great point. I'll throw out more than the original MSRP of a new bike, just so he, and everyone I tell the story to, will know that I'm the boss But Recon, that's where my rationale is coming from. To me, if I can snag it for $8000, that seems like a great deal for me. Just wanting to confirm that others thought so too and see if anyone thought he might bite at that price.
  8. I got the VIN already and and ran it through NICB to check for theft, VIN matches the bike according to my insurance quote, and having seen the video in 720p of the bike from all angles looks mint. He's also shown the shop receipt for the new bike oil change and rear wheel recall as having been performed. https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck/vincheck
  9. Appreciate the thoughts. Don't worry, I'm not chomping at the bit, though admittedly am getting the excitement buildup. I'm part Jewish, so demanding a deal is in my genes. Just haven't ever bargained for something like this and hoping to get some ideas on good pricing. Mostly i'm taking a peak at what similar Ducatis are going for on eBay, particularly a few years older and even older ones are going for less than this. Should I give Comp Accessories a call and see what they'd let a new one go for and use that for some leverage?
  10. Touche. At this point, I'm inclined to throw the $7800 out and simultaneously offer $8000 if he'd be willing to meet me halfway for the transfer (saves me a full day of driving).
  11. Quote from my last email: "At some point we have to talk about how much too, lets figure out if we can make something happen first if we can then I guess you at least know something about where I would like to be. To help my fall back is likley to be listing it for $9800 with the dealer who will take $980 from me for selling it, assuming he gets $9800." This is all both of us have said regarding price at this point. Basically sounds like he's wanting me to really throw the first offer out there, rather than say how much he'd be willing to let it go for.
  12. I like your thinking, though I've checked a few local dealerships around Ohio and even the 2011 796 Monster with more miles is going for over $8k. From what I've seen in the pictures of the title, he owns the bike outright, no lien noted on the title.
  13. But that's my question: what do you all think would be a reason able offer to toss out at this point? I'd like to say $8000, which would be a relative steal for me, but about $1000 less than he might otherwise think he can get. Is this reasonable to toss out there or is this a laugh your way out of negotiations offer? The best I can find remotely locally is $8500 for a 696, not the 1100
  14. I'm also interested in what you all would think a "good deal" on this bike would be. In other words, if I paid $xxxx + $200 transport cost, what would the good deal be?
  15. There's no $9k in his head, just that his first mention of price was that he thought he could list the bike with the dealer at $9800 and make less $980. I'm certainly willing to be patient, with no riding in the next 4-5 months being foreseeable. Just looking for what you all might toss out at this point.
  16. Do you think I could find an outgoing model year Duc 1100 for less than $8000 plus about $120 in gas to drive? So far I've seen nothing remotely close.
  17. Yeah, only concern is he seems to think he'll be able to net $9000 if he let's his friend at the Ducati dealership sell it for him and take a 10% chunk off the sale price.
  18. No driving, it's email negotiations at this point. He also has to decide how to sell by the end of the year. What is Commonwealth? What do you consider a great deal? If I could get it for $8000, i would consider that a great deal given the book value.
  19. Ok, so some of you may have followed my quest for something to replace my R6. Well I'm talking with a guy about buying his 2012 Ducati Monster 1100 Evo. Here's what I've gathered: - Mint condition - tank guard is only accessory - 1128 miles - Willing to meet halfway for delivery from Kansas City - Factory warranty remains until July 2013 (~9 more months, assuming it's transferrable) From the last email I got, his backup plan is selling consignment through a contact at the local Ducati dealer for $9800 and knowing they'd take a 10% cut, it seems he expects get about $9000 take home from that route. Where should I begin my negotiations? The highest bidding on eBay got was $7600, so my initial plan before hearing about this backup plan was to go $7800 and hope he'd opt for $8k and take it. But now I get the feeling he's expecting a bit more for that. My cap is probably around $8500 and NADA value for the bike is $10,240 average retail and $7,780 low retail (bad shape). Thoughts on how to handle negotiations? Don't want to insult the man and over low ball him, but it is also heading in to winter and bike prices aren't ideal this time of year. Fire away!
  20. The real question is why was the cop having that illegal immigrant film a plane landing in the first place?
  21. As an added bonus: I googled his name and Kansas City and immediately got a Linked In profile showing someone with his name working as a head honcho at a KC office for a German-based company. Also a KC business journal detailing the new office opening and listing him as the big shot running the show. Name does not seem common, so his story seems plausible and certainly someone who could afford a Ducati (and hopefully part with one the cheap). Also just google image searched his name plus suspected company he works for and found a picture of the same guy from the video. Seems overwhelmingly legit to me.
  22. This is kind of where I'm erring. I've been in contact with a seller on eBay from Kansas City who's Monser 1100 didn't sell. I asked him for a video walk around of the bike, which he obliged with the video including start up and odometer, and he had a table set up with all the manuals, clear title in his name, and the recent service record displayed. Ran the VIN he gave through insurance and it matches his description (Duc 1100) though he is advertising it as a 2011 (year he bought it) when the model year on the VIN is actually 2012, which is just fine by me. Haven't talked price, but his starting bid on eBay was below NADA value, though I don't know what the reserve price was, so I'm hoping for a solid deal. My only minor skepticism is he listed his selling reason as he's going overseas for a few years for his job. This was a quick red flag as I've seen a lot of this rationale on CycleTrader with fake as hell listings. However, the man in video does have an obvious, light British accent and he has multiple vehicles up for sale, as well as a legit looking title in the video. Plan to pay via PayPal for protection IF I decide to go this route. FWIW, his garage looked very clean. His eBay record shows he sold another older bike recently to a happy customer. 100% seller rating.
