  1. Haha, it was actually ridiculously easy. Only hard thing was getting it in and out of the bed. Probably would have been just fine without the canyon dancers and half the straps I used, but I'm paranoid like that, as you all probably noticed! It's killing me right now that the BMV isn't open to get this registered and legal to go. I actually had never seen the red one in person and pictures don't do them justice. This is gonna be a LONG winter indeed.
  2. Success! I slipped soft tie loops just above the lower fork bar and used that as the primary front tie/compression then put the canyon dancers on with some light tension to help stabilize the handlebars, tied down the rear using the passenger peg mounts and had to put some cardboard under the rear tire as it was sitting right on a horizontal ridge on the tailgate that would have put all the pressure on one small spot on the tire. Took squareheads advice: checked the straps after 20 miles, then every 200. Bike never budged, one side just needed to be tightened a click or two after about 400 miles. Most nerve wracking part was unloading it down this 10" wide steel ramp my friend had. I may not sleep all night after trying to carefully navigate that thing. Pics to come tomorrow!
  3. the ones I have borrowed are the soft loops that will likely slide all the way to the inside of the grip up against the levers, i think the Canyon Dancer 1, not the hard bar end cups
  4. If it weren't in KC, I'd just bundle up and ride it home
  5. Thanks all, found a friend with some canyon dancers and i'm gonna grab some soft straps and let that be that. Wish me luck!
  6. It has 4 plastic tie downs in each corner of the truck bed.
  7. I figured on doing something like this http://www.discountramps.com/articles/motorcycle-tie-down.htm use soft straps on each side of the handlebars and the one on each of the passenger peg mounts
  8. If the canyon dancer setup keeps the wheel straight, what is the use of the chock?
  9. Thing is I've never driven with a trailer and don't know how comfortable I am messing with that. Wouldn't that also put the bike right in the crosshairs of every pebble the truck kicks up?
  10. Right, I'm just curious for more specifics of tie down in a truck bed. So soft strap/canyon dancer the handlebars and tie down wide, check. Should any other points be tied down? I do not have a wheel chock currently, will having one that is not mounted to the bed of the truck really impact transportation much?
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKlVC-pfbC0 Is this basically the technique you all are recommending? Do you really only secure the front of the bike like that? I figured there'd be something on the rear and mid section of the bike as well...
  12. I've read a few articles mentioning those, what's the advantage though?
  13. I'm heading out to KC in the next few weeks to pick up my new-to-me Monster and was hoping for some smart tips for bringing it back 600 miles safely and without damaging it. Truck is a Dodge Dakota w/ 5' bed, so likely to be tailgate down with at least part of the wheel on the gate based on my measurements. Should I get a cover to keep road debris from knicking it up? Recommend picking up a wheel chock? I have a plethora of tie downs available, so any tips on properly securing it and possibly securing the cover? You guys have been very helpful so far in this process!
  14. I don't think I could do that on a BMX bike, let alone a motorcycle that size.
  15. Nice car! I had an old 1989 Honda Prelude for the longest time til the engine exploded at 200k miles. Heated leather changed my life, and probably my favorite feature on my Subaru, you'll fall in love with it when it's cold out and relaxes a tense back on long trips. You'll never be able to go back.
  16. www.annualcreditreport.com Free, once per year credit report from each of the major companies. Get one every 4 months and check up. No scores.
  17. My mistake, thought I could just post and hear offers. I'd like to see $3,500. Edited OP.
  18. Need $$$ to pay down the new Duc. Looking for $3,500, but flexible for reputable ORN folks. Now on to the bike: Title: Clean wo/ lein Mileage: 23xxx Bought in late 2007 and had some minor damage, but solely cosmetic damage. Replaced the gauge cover and small plastic piece over air intake, still a few scratches on the clutch casing, right fork cap, and mirrors though I have a replacement fork cap, just haven't gotten around to installing it. Otherwise very clean and polished. The tires are Mich PP, rear has about 5k miles, but decent tread left as I typically am pretty light on the throttle and commuting. Front has about 2k miles and in great shape. Brake pads have 2k front, 4k back miles (pretty good life let). Spark plugs have about 6k. Have both passenger seat and rear cowl. FWIW: I'll throw in a fresh jug of Maxima Coolanol that I don't need anymore and I have 3q of Motul 5100 oil and a K&N filter for the spring oil change to go with it. Just a few mods: - Fender eliminator with LED bolts - Puig Double Bubble screen - DDM 6000k 35w HIDs - Custom grips - D&D carbon fiber exhaust repacked with Silent Sport Premium - -1/+0 Driven steel sprockets (black) with EK MVXZ 520 chain (black/gold) - SpeedoDRD - Frame sliders - Paint work is custom. A few pics:
  19. Yeah, the 20 hour road trip to KC... then the 4 months of waiting for nice weather...
  20. Will do! @Mary: yeah, i'm really curious to see how the power delivery feels. I was never one to really push the upper RPMs on the R6, for some reason i just never felt right cruising around with the bike in it's real powerband RPMs and always ended up in too high a gear most of the time. So I think the lower/mid range power and torque will fit my riding style a bit more. That and hopefully be more comfortable of a ride! Gonna be a really tough winter with it hanging out in the garage til spring, but that's the price you pay to save some $ I guess. @NinjaDoc: Japan has been good to me and I'll always have fond memories
