  1. damnit, not the responses i was hoping for. how's the powder room? anyone been there?
  2. especially if you're around columbus. i live down in grove city, and I really dont wanna pay $22 to shoot up at new albany. only other place i've seen is powder room way up in powell. other than that, the only place i know around here is going to the state range at deer creek... help a sad man out!
  3. reminds me of a big magnet dropped into a metal scrap yard...
  4. haha, man i was scared of this for the first year i had my dog. kept putting off getting her spayed and every day i was like "please dont let her bleed all over the place..."
  5. yeah i'd heard about the name differences. still debating though, saw the current vance add and they had the xd9 4" at $419 but they also had the PK380 for $299. both of which i would be happy with, though seeing their 9mm prices sure makes a 9mm para look cheaper in the long run.
  6. wasn't planning on it. say what you will but i've always liked the look of the five-seven and if money werent an object, especially after shooting it i'd get it. but at this point, it'd be cheaper just to rent it every time i got to the range for the next... 5-6 years, lol. and yeah, i guess all i really wanted to know is which brands are reliable and recommendable and it seems like any of the ones i've heard of before being interested in buying a gun work: glock, springfield, FNH, HK, Walther, Sig-Sauer etc. quwip - how do you like the .380 auto as a cartridge? i've read it's basically a weaker/shorter 9mm para cartridge, which really makes no difference to me, but that it's less accurate beyond, say, 25 ft because of it's lower velocity. but the guns chambered in it cost a bit less. and i get the .22 idea, but, IMO, it's kinda like when you first look at getting a motorcycle and people tell you to get a 250 instead of a 600: you'll save money, it's easier to handle, you'll learn the basics, then you'll upgrade when you get there. i think we all know how that debate generally works out with new riders... i know i'm probably spitting the n00b line here, but it's just more fun if it makes a boom. probably make another trip or two renting but thanks for the recommendations.
  7. all i see is racism in these tests. break down the demographics and you'll see. get rid of the driving test.
  8. just got back from VRA, sorry i didnt let you all know, i definitely would like to go shooting with you sometime, but i went with my girlfriend's brother and we were on a slight time crunch. Shot the FNP-9, XD9, and Five-seveN before we ran out of time and $, lol. XD9 was really nice, seemed to be pretty accurate, better than the FNP-9, which i was kinda disappointed in as i really liked the size and feel of the FNP. The Five-seveN was awesome though. Very little recoil or muzzle flip, more accurate (in his and my hands anyway) than the XD, significantly easier to load than the 9mm mags, interestingly much bigger flash and sound than the 9mm. Just too damn expensive at $1000+. Havent made any decisions yet though. One gun that caught my eye there was the Walther PK380. It was inexpensive at like $360, small enough if i ever wanted to CCW, and the ammo was only about $2 more than the 9mm remanufactured stuff at VRA. Definitely a fun experience, though I had to slow myself down a few times cause i have a tendency to burn through ammo quickly.
  9. +1 and something that looks like her head in my peripheral vision
  10. i just found out through his sister that an old friend of mine's dad works for Sig-Sauer. I Remember back in HS he worked for Glock and she said he's still got good ties there too so I may be in luck with one of those two companies.
  11. could a crash resulting in officer sliding on handgun/ammo cause them to discharge?
  12. yeah, from what i heard they are a blast to shoot, very accurate for a handgun, and now that the ammo prices are at or below what i've seen for 9mm prices (around $20 per 50-round box). problem is i really dont wanna invest $1000 in a handgun. they've got them for rent at Vandalia armory, so i might grab a box of 5.7mm and try it out anyway. and dont worry, i wont overlook the 1911, though i wouldnt mind a slightly more compact handgun like the Glock 19, i had an airsoft replica of a tiny lil glock 26 a while back, so i dont want something i cant get my pinky on the grip. anyone have experience with the Walther P99?
  13. they have a HUGE assortment of rentals according to their website, so i'm sure i'll have a chance to check the feel of each, just figured i'd pick up a 50-round box in a each caliber and rent 3-4 first. i'll definitely let you know, though. it'd be fun to let someone see me make a fool of myself with a .50AE, lol. might go this week just so i have an idea what i'm looking for at these gun shows, namely the one in sharonville this weekend just in case i find a deal
  14. thinking of picking up a handgun. mostly for something fun to shoot at a range, but obviously any gun can double as protection in the home, not really planning on a ccw at this point. i was thinking of going up to Vandalia Armory and renting a few handguns and putting a box of ammo through them before deciding on what to go with and seeing as you all post nearly as much about your non-vehicular toys as your bikes, thought you all might have some recommendations. i know i've read some of you have and love the Springfield XD40, so i might try that one out. otherwise i was looking at some glocks and a five-seven to try. caliber recommendations appreciated too, though with the 9mm and 5.7x28mm seeming to be the cheaper calibers, that'll probably win out eventually. thanks!
  15. lol, i thought something totally different when I read "Car Seat Holster" like something for moms.
  16. if he shows for court and isnt doubling over from all the cell phones in the building, i'd throw the case out. that or bring a mobile wifi hotspot in your briefcase and if he doesnt complain, pitch the case.
  17. even more interesting to see the Pack and the Jets in the Super Bowl.
  18. And his choice is looking good! not sure why it's not showing the pic, it does in the editor...
  19. Key West just hit a 131-year low temp of 47 degrees.
  20. i think he's just too far off the side of the bike?
  21. with all the hassle and extra costs of flying, why do it? Went to west palm beach for a vacation and drove the whole way from columbus. cost less than half the cost of a flight, especially if rental car gets thrown in there.
  22. i bought my first two guns this year and so far have not committed a crime. just doing my part.
  23. http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/30/news/companies/gmac_bailout/index.htm Apparently GMAC is getting $3.8 billion more on top of $13.8 billion it already has and the feds will now control the company. Remind me where the incentive is to not be financially irresponsible in the banking industry is again? You fuck up and lose ass-loads of money, gov't bails you out. You STILL are fucking up after getting FREE money, gov't gives you more money. Repeat until company is owned by gov't. Finally, I was at Barnes and Noble today and saw that the Time Magazine Person of the Year was Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke!?!
