  1. the leather on some of those abrasions looks like it's been worn pretty thin... especially around the seat
  2. That's the Stella Dyno. I've got the men's Dyno and it's a great jacket. Very wearable up to about 80-85*F without the liner and all the zipper vents open.
  3. anything i'm forgetting here for the strut job? kyb gr-2 struts all around mount bearing assemblies (bearing, rubber bushing) bellows/bump stop spring compression tool
  4. i had a spider bite on my head about 3 weeks ago and it swelled up huge and now i have this 1 inch diameter bald spot on the back of my head... go see a doc, i never had bumps and stuff breakout all over. localized reactions are one thing, but if it's reacting systemically all around your body, i'd see the doc cause you dont know what's next, if anything.
  5. hmm, we'll they definitely need to get done, and i'm sure as hell not paying hundreds for shop work if i can do it myself for $200. the serp belt i thought about just having a shop do til i saw they're under $20, i'll let you all know after i take a look around the manual. i actually found a guy who photo'd step by step my exact car strut replacement: http://www.hembrook.com/automotive/vw/jetta/struts/index.html what luck eh? doesnt seem too complex, other than putting all the parts back on right and making sure the spring is securely compressed. are those non-hydraulic spring compressors alright to use? autozone "sells" them for $50 but you get that back when you return it.
  6. really? i woulda thought it'd be the other way. struts just seems like it's clamp the spring, unbolt and replace the struts. but i havent looked over the haynes manual yet either. what's involved in the serpentine belt replacement? struts would probably be my winter unemployment project.
  7. firestone cost for new calipers/pads/fluid flush = $425. Got it done today myself for $180 and repaired a sticking bearing in the drum brake in the back. i'm feelin manly today. hopefully this will fix the problem... we'll find out on the drive to dayton tonight. BTW, how tough would it be to do the struts and serpentine belt myself? autozone has oem replacement struts at $100 for the front pair, $60 for the back. a hefty shot down from the $1000 firestone wanted.
  8. +!. i left home at 630 this morning, temp was 31 degrees according to Bob Nunnally. Visor fog + real fog = first 2 minutes of highway with the visor cracked just so i could see. never really unfogged. Thank God for the new gloves cause my hands would have fallen off with the summer ones.
  9. Coach - "Now now guys, we didnt lose cause of one play... ok yeah we did. shut the doors and let's punish him!"
  10. +1 i gots my flannel undies on today! Do it anyway! You know how awesome it'd look in service dress on a bike?
  11. Me. Rode the last two days... because my car needs new calipers so i dont die. Stopped at IP on the way home today and picked up a balaclava and some new gloves to combat the cold as the drafty SP-X gloves let my hands go numb after about 5 mins when it's under 50.
  12. VW dealer screwed me over last time i took it in (Hatfield) and ended up charging me around $350 after a hefty "diagnosis" charge just to fix a wiring harness. Plus they even told me they rarely see this old of a jetta in there shop as it. never again.
  13. ok so here's the deal from firestone's inspection: needs: front struts/mounting bearing rear spring seat shocks, bumper bellows, and some kinda upper mtg kit new front calipers/pads (left front was sticking, causing the pull) new rotors... brake flush serpentine belt is cracked/dry rotted dont wanna deal with the struts, as i just wanna make it safe to drive at this point and sell it. so the caliper/pad replacement seems easy enough in the haynes manual, so i'm gonna head to autozone tomorrow and see about picking up a set of them and a vacuum bleeder (been wanting one of those for a while anyway).
  14. not a bad idea. I have a garage in Grove City if someone's interested.
  15. yeah the "late" fee is bullshit since you dont HAVE to have updated plates if you dont drive. i'd like to see someone challenge that. That's why i got my bike plates renewed today, they were expired about 3 weeks, but that's because i wasn't using it at all.
  16. dunno, i'll ask them to check that pump out, they seem to think the suspension isnt the problem... gonna have to ride the bike into work the next few days.
  17. so sounds like it might be a brake piston then? the "jetsons" sound i mentioned was just a high pitched whine that grew in intensity and volume with speed and vice versa. it did not make this noise at all the day the car was having steering issues. like i said, firestone pointed out the piston and the struts as the only problems they noted on inspection and havent found the parts to quote me as of yet. i guess the piston would make sense. if one of them was sticking open/shut that seems like it might fit what i'm experiencing. everyone i know's first thoughts was the joints/bearings/etc like has been suggested, but there was not free play when tugging on the wheel while up on stands.
  18. they also said one of the calipers was sticking. could that be the problem? i'm getting to the "fix it and sell it" point with this hunk of junk. pissed i just put a new head unit in it...
  19. not sure if they used the term "loose" exactly, just that the only thing they noticed to have an issue was the struts all around and something about not maintaining good contact with the ground as a result. i asked about the joints etc and he said he didnt notice anything like that, but they'd look it over again. As for the questions, no, there's no noise right now at all. The steering does not surge when turning it side to side completely while parked and i dont notice any odd feedback from the wheel while driving. Know any good, more locally owned shops in the grove city area?
  20. firestone said only thing they've noticed wrong is some loose struts up front and leaky struts in the back... would that cause the car to steer hard right suddenly?
  21. sure we do, there's a dash cam vid. but to each his own on how you wanna see this.
  22. Why do ppl give a shit if casinos are built in ohio? and what does it matter if they're "out of state" built or staffed? Either way it's tax revenue for ohio regardless. I just cant figure out why this is a big issue for anyone and why it failed last time.
  23. point is endangering your own life versus endangering others lives as well. if you cant see the difference between flying down a highway, risking hitting another vehicle and injuring/killing someone else, and blazing down an empty road risking only your own life, then i guess, there's no convincing you. and yeah, i would lose my job since i drive a vehicle for a living. 6 points on the license = fired no matter what the violation.
  24. if the total points was 6 or more, i'd lose mine. not sure how i feel about them losing a job or not.
