I especially love how Porsche keeps changing one little thing on the body or interior and suddenly it's a Carrera GT Limited ZOMG Edition that's barely outperforming the previous model but now costs 40K more.
-
You mean the one that hasn't been redesigned since the Carter Administration? Yeah.
-
Really? I see this as another in a series of logical progressions. The ZOMG SHTF WTF! niche hobby has been commercialized for quite a while now, I thought the zombie ammo and a goddamn TV show would have spelled that out by now. It just mildly annoys me that people will flock to the TV shows and not pay attention to something pragmatic and reality-tested as the Egyptian account from the Arab Spring revolution. Then I remember I really don't give a fuck, get my lulz and go back to doing what I was doing.

With enough Sriracha, all things are possible, err, edible.

Wanting to buy some Plastic Cleaner, but don't know which one.

troof. I clean the inside of my car with it too, works beautifully. -
I liked that whoever did this put so much emphasis on in order to survive, you still need to maintain the social order of things. I'm incredibly tired of over-the-top "preppers" automatically assuming that whatever happens to cause them to engage their planning also completely wipes out the entire social structure of humanity in the process. This has been proven false in every way again and again in actual natural/manmade disasters, and these assholes need to stop basing their reality on Mad Max.

Pragmatic and not over-the-top. I can get behind this.

+1 to this too. Applying your brakes while in mid-turn will force the bike to start standing up, pretty much the exact opposite of what you're trying to do (turn) If you're too hot in a turn, as scary as that might be, try and lean it out. Your tires should grip, provided you aren't leaning enough to cause a lowside. Push on those handlebars and just lean it out.

Honda stopped putting their name on it, I think it's called Original or something like that. The can labelling is roughly the same. Here's the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Honda-Spray-Cleaner-Polish/dp/B00383T62O -
For a noob, "gassing it up" out of a tankslapper is TERRIBLE advice, even more so when said noob has a 250 that has virtually no chance of popping a wheelie. I know you tempered your remarks with clutching it up, I was just trying to clarify things a little. abdecal, if you did have a bike that was capable of doing a wheelie AND YOU were capable of handling said wheelie, then yes, pounding the throttle to make the front wheel light/bring the front wheel up in a power wheelie would effectively stop the tankslapper. However, you don't possess a bike capable of doing this, nor do you have enough experience to control said wheelie if you did. Grab clutch, let off throttle, let bike correct itself.
-
Could be a variety of factors. The true cause is the front wheel starts to wobble back and forth along the steering axis, causing the entire bike to start shaking as a result of the steering inputs. That can be caused by locking up the front brakes, hitting a large pothole the wrong way, stuff like that.

Damn, bringing up some good ones here too. The tar strips are also commonly referred to as "road snakes", and they will give a LOT more than they appear to. Be ready for some ass-pucker moments if you're trying to do any maneuvering on them. Wet leaves are a no-no, I also try and stay away from manhole covers, ESPECIALLY when they are wet. Steel doesn't have nearly the same traction as asphalt. If you're in mid-turn, let off the gas and try to avoid if possible. +1 on semi's. The two-fiddy doesn't have a ton of power, but it should have enough to punch it and pass the truck. If you've got the option, I normally put the hammer down to get around the semi and get out of the wake. If you're in a bad part of the air wake, it'll freak you out if you aren't prepared for it.

probably reddit.

It's simple physics, the bike (at speed) WANTS to stay upright. There's a variety of reason why tankslappers happen, but until that front wheel calms down and stops wobbling (the source of the slap), touching brakes (front or rear) is going to cause all kinds of fuckups. If you grab clutch (letting the bike move under it's own momentum) and relax your arms on the bars, the wheel will calm itself down in no time.

To expound on the tires thing, don't expect to be able to ride hard right when you leave the garage. The tires need time to get up to temp before they get to maximum grippiness. I'm not saying that it's going to feel like you're riding on ice for the first 15-20 minutes, but try to avoid real aggressive turns until the tires warm up. You should feel a little difference in grip and bike response when the tires are at temp vs. when they aren't.
-
Throw me in on this too. Should be good to get some campin's in.
-
That's what I did, also they have you lock the rear in the State MSF class. It's important for you to know what that feels like, locking the rear is something that's relatively easy to do. Also, if you ever get a tankslapper (where the bike is wobbling side to side and it feels like you're going to get thrown off like a bull). let off throttle and grab a handful of clutch. Touching brakes is going to send you over the edge, let the bike right itself.

Lots of milling around and looking at bikes.

and you can also waive the aforementioned gravel advice on a track. knees down for everyone!

Bingo. aaaand this was the cause of accident number 2. Hit a decreasing radius turn in Newark WAYYY too hot trying to keep up with a group of people I had no business riding with to begin with, the experience gap was way to large. Long story short, I didn't lean enough and put the bike into the guardrail, walked away with not a scratch due to gear.

one day the asphalt plant will rise up and kill us all. Bullets will only be absorbed as more substrate, just making the beast stronger.
-
Target fixation was the cause of my very first accident. I can't overemphasize the last two comments enough. Listen, and understand. Road gravel is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. Never, ever stop scanning for it.

www.zennioptical.com Ordered my regular glasses from there. You'll need your script AND your pupillary distance (PD, you get that from the guy that fits you for glasses with the thing that looks like binoculars) Once you have that, you take a picture of your face, upload it to the site, put in your PD and select your pupils to give the software a sense of scale, then you can virtually "try on" every frame they have. Best part is I picked up regular eyeglasses and a reasonable frame for $37 bucks to my door with all the ZOMG coatings, antiglare, all that. I know for a fact they have the safety glasses, rec specs, stuff like that.
