  1. This is a good weekend for riding at a more relaxed pace...maybe a 'learning' ride to tweak your cornering technique or try to improve your line :dunno
  2. I doubt that higher output lights have any real safety benefits, unless you mean more visibility for yourself while riding in dark conditions. If you wanted to be a 'dick' you could get a headlight modulator. I don't think that those do anything other than annoy other motorists.
  3. ...and without democratic support of the UAW, the american auto industry probably wouldn't have been in that position in the first place :stirthepot
  4. Watch out for cops this weekend. They love getting holiday pay.
  5. If your not looking for hard bags, I would look at some sport nakeds: Speed/Street Triple FZ1 Z1000 even a SV650 w/suspension mods makes a capable corner carver.
  6. Kathy, Are you more into the sport or the touring? I like the Ninja 1000 or a Triumph Sprint. edit: saw this one a few days ago http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,73680.0.html
  7. IMO, people that don't believe in evolution have a vested interest not to believe it. To say it another way, if you 'objectively' look at the concepts and overwhelming evidence behind evolution, it's very difficult not to believe.
  8. I've seen people talking on a cell phone will riding.
  9. I have a M&P 9 compact. Smaller than the G19, and is stupid accurate for the size. ...oh and that FN is a damn fine combat 9mm.
  10. +1 An EBR spec series is an intersting idea. The rumor (actually it's probably as much fact as rumor), is that EBR has already built and assembled a production run of mass market priced 1190 motorcycles (delete carbon fiber, magnesium wheels, etc from the 1190RS). Supposedly, the announcemnt will come when the dealer network is revealed. I doubt that EBR has the $$, support, or enough pull with the AMA to get it's own spec series. It's an interesting idea though. I would love to see lap times of a race prepped SV650 compared to those XR1200s. I suspect an SV would destroy the XR field.
  11. I am sure HD pushed for this to get their logo in front of a larger race crowd. The race itself was a disaster. It was like a Katana rally in Coshocton. I doubt this was the type of exposure that HD wanted. This is the first XR1200 race I've seen. Maybe the others have been better.
  12. So Pauly prefers to be little spoon?
  13. In all seriousness...that was one of the problems. That and all the shitty handling motorcycles. Some of them were dumping oil. In one camera shot, there were 5 or 6 bikes laying on the ground. Not a 6 bike wreck...6, one bike wrecks. There were plenty of other non oil related crashes. It was red flagged after 5 laps. http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/2012/indy-ama-xr1200-wyman-wins-saturday But at the end of Lap 4, things began to change. First, O'Hara crashed in Turn 16, allowing Wyman to move up to second place. Half a circuit later, all hell broke loose with Jacobsen going down hard in Turn 10. Moments later, Wyman also went down in the same spot, followed by several more riders. "There was oil on the track," Wyman said. "P.J. had a few seconds on me and I saw him crash but just as I processed what had happened I went down. It happened that fast. I got up and raised my arms to signal the guys behind us but everyone was coming and it was just total chaos." The race was quickly red-flagged and most of the riders went back to pit row, some on damaged machines. Only Jacobsen and Wyman were left out as their bikes required major repair and needed to be towed.
  14. If you stay in under 50mph and don't have a mechanical, you could score an AMA top 10 after all the crashers get out of your way.
  15. The XR1200 race showed up on my DVR. I haven't seen any of the other Indy races yet. I think half the field went down. Lot's of wiggling and tankslapping through corners, too. And racers who crash can't pick up their heavy 'race' bikes without help. Thanks Harley...make America proud
  16. Did anyone watch it? I've never seen so many crashes in a single race.

    Sag session

How much sag is too much?
  18. No grief. They probably weren't happy that we were weaving through their formation. After you passed them they kind of bunched up, so I had to pass most of them at once. My passing power is *ahem* a bit less than the CBR, so I had to wait for a long enough line of site to pass all of them. Plus, I was temporarily blinded by all the chrome and flabby white flesh.
  19. Yep, the DL/SV/SFV motors are very much related. I spent some time checking the DL650 threads and saw exactly what I experienced. Oil consumption seems to be noticeable only after extended periods of high rpm riding. It's a fun little motor. For spirited rides it seems 'happiest' in the 6-10k range. RL=10.5k
  20. Think I found my answer... "Yes the engine is bulletproof and should easily make 100k miles.....but they burn oil at high rpm's. Even the race guys of the SV's recommend that the oil fill should be at the top of the sight window for a race..." I'll still try some other brands/viscosity.
  21. I will try different oil, but I've been using the 0w40 for about 6k with no problems until recently. its still 40 weight when up to temp.
  22. 10w40 is standard, but the manual says 0w40 up to 20w50 is acceptable.
  23. Thanks. I actually posted a thread on SVR asking. Responders didn't seem to be losing any oil. But is this thread I see some of the same problem. Might have to switch oil and see what happens. I bought it as a demo last year. Bad, it had 1k on it when I got it so I don't know how it was broken in. Good, I still have a warranty for a few more months.
