I used to trail brake exclusively with my rear. Then @what told me it was dumb. So I stopped. Now I just downshift to oblivion or stop being a bitch and carry too much corner speed. Now? My brake pads are mint and I buy tires every other week.

Not sure about your BMW, but on mine when I pull the front brake lever, the bike decides which brakes are applied based on some German algorithm that considers many factors.  A light squeeze on the front brake lever will only apply the rear brake in certain situations (you can actually feel it in the rear brake pedal).

It's actually a really good system and works seamlessly.

  2. My COVID riding protocol has been:

    • I bring snacks and drinks with me (stopping for meals has never been part of my ride agenda...ask anyone)
    • Only go inside a gas station as an exception and keep my helmet on
    • Leave gloves on during refueling
    • Nature is my men's room

In truth, a true democracy can ONLY work when you have an well-educated voting populace, one of the reasons that only land owners were allowed to vote when our country was established, as they were essentially the most well educated who had a stake in the outcome of the country's direction.  What we technically have historically is a republic, or at least a hybrid system combining democracy with a republic.  Allowing the ignorant, the uninformed and the uneducated to vote, while a rampantly popular idea on citizen rights, is a recipe for disaster over many decades.  As soon as the majority discovers for themselves or are urged or "told" they can vote themselves free benefits at the largesse of the tax-paying minority, it becomes a socialist democracy, which is where we're headed rapidly.  Sanders, Warren, Booker, Yang, Harris...name your progressive of choice.

I know that sounds terribly "privileged", but it is our history.  If we could somehow instill the understanding of the need for EVERYONE to exercise their right to vote, so that a thin majority truly represents the "will of the people", then we could have a functional democracy.  When you have voter turnouts of 20-25% of registered voters, you effectively have the will of a 10-15% minority imposing their will on the 80%+ majority....and we allow it because we're too f'ing lazy or busy or disconnected to make our desire known.

Pure democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.

I ordered a rear tire from MC-motosports on amazon 9 days ago, 7 days ago it said shipping label was created, 4 days ago i emailed them because tracking has gone nowhere. They reply that sometimes it takes a couple days for tracking to show up. and here we are today. Nothing but a created shipping label on the 22nd. I'll give it another day or two before the asshole in me shows up. Today was the promised delivery day when I ordered.

It took me 10 days to get a tire from Revzilla.

Carriers are getting their asses kicked by COVID right now.

Reading thru the then-current reviews of the 1999 model release, the M2 was the most loved of the Buell models, even tho it was carb'd.  Apparently, the EFI was not quite ready for prime time.  I haven't tried to source any parts yet, as it appears to be in fine shape, the PO said the belt is original, so I plan to at least go hunting at some of the bigger H-D dealers in the region to at least have one on hand....assuming I can find one.

I doubt any Harley dealers are going to have useful information on the M2.  Even when Buell was still active, support was awful at the Chrome Castles.

This is your best/only source of info:  https://badweatherbikers.com/

  6. The M2 was probably the best of the tube frame (pre-XB) Buells.

I know for XBs the OEM drive belts are no longer available.  There are belts that will "fit" but they are not spec-ed for Buells.  Not sure about the tubers.

Ive ran a couple sets of these and haven't had any of these issues. just had a new front put on at wheelers last weekend and railed it everywhere.I do know they are a very heavy carcass tire and it takes extra time to get any heat into them. But at the same time they last monger due to this too. Me and @JustinNck1 ran them for our trip out west and I ran a set for a gap trip the month before. maybe the heavier bike helps them perform better not sure.

What psi does your bike recommend?  And what pressure were you running the the RS3s?

I was playing with this again today on some local curves.  I can basically get these tires to slip at will.  Pretty sure the slipping is happening when gassing out of corners and transitioning to the not-so-sticky middle compound.

Earlier today my friend Mike DeWine tweeted about wearing masks. I replied to him that he just needs to make them mandatory. My Twitter blew up man, it was awesome. The comments I got were as intelligent as the video above.

I am totally going to troll them now. They go nuts.

I have decide the anti mask people are clearly very self centered and only care about themselves. Some of them flat out said so.

I also suspect many of them are flat earthers, they are that stupid.

The earth is not flat.  I don't think I saw any flat ground in 5 days in Tennessee.  Duh.

Maybe Dunlop changed something like @durk suggested?

Without TC, the first big slip would have high sided me.  After a few more times, I started making it slip intentionally, so I'd kinda know what to expect and how it would feel.

On some roads they were ok, like the Dragon and the Skyway.  They grip on the roads in Kentucky was especially bad.

I had to keep my bike in Rain Mode for most of the trip.

Love the BMW.  Hate the Dunlops.

I think Dunlop may have changed something in their process. I’ve mentioned my issues with the RS2s. When they arrived they seemed to have a sheen to them that I don’t recall seeing on any of my previous tires. After my spill turning out of the drive I ordered a set of RS3s. They seemed to have the same kind of sheen when they arrived. I have run multiple RS3s prior to this set and they have always stuck pretty well. You have me concerned now.

If the road surface was rough they stuck ok-ish.  If the surface was smooth I was sliding a lot.  I've never had this with other tires.  My TC light was on a lot.

Dunlop Road Smart 3 tires are garbage.  Just posted this review on Revzilla

I installed a set of these on my BMW R1200R before a 5 day trip to Deal's Gap.  I've gone through many sets of ST tires (Conti RA, Angel GT, PR 2 3 4, Metz Z6 Z8, etc), I decided to give the RS3 a try.  I ran them at the manufacturers recommended  PSI, just like every other tire.

    The Bad:
First thing I noticed is that it doesn't take much lean angel to reach the edge of the rear tire.  When you do it slips...thankfully I have traction control.  The other ST tires I've used are capable of more lean angel.

Dry traction for the rear tire is not acceptable for spirited riding.  On corner exits with some lean angel, it's REALLY EASY to spin up the RS3.  First time it happened the rear slid way out before TC engaged.  After that I began to test the grip...On smoother road surfaces I could make make it spin in almost every 2nd or 3rd gear corner.  I went back to check some corners to make sure there was no gravel or sand...there wasn't...just black marks from the tire spinning.  I've never seen a tire that would lose grip so easily :(

I kept lowering the PSI trying to find more grip.  It helped a little but not enough.

    The Good:
    Wet traction is pretty good
Would be a decent tire for commuting.
It seems to be wearing OK
The front tire was fine, it didn't slip like the rear tire.

    Verdict:
I've already spoken to a Dunlop tire tech.
After 2,500 miles (1 trip) these are going in the garbage before they wreck me.

New road they are promoting in Kentucky. Route 160 on the KY/VA border. Calling it Dragon Slayer 160.

Sorry my GPS was acting strange kicks in eventually. My first run on this road so not super spirited.

The people at the visitor office are super friendly.  I hope this works for them because Lynch KY could use an influx of life.  It used to be a busy coal town.

I didn't have time to ride a loop around the area, only 160 which is just OK IMO.  On 1 section most of the right hand (the up hill side) turns are blind-unmarked-decreasing radius.  The road could really use some signage, those ones should be marked 10 or 15 mph.

I like the area though.  I saw 2 bears.

They did update them though and may be keeping the old reviews. I had the old. There is a claim the old were US made and the new are Thai.

I have never been a fan of Dunlops.

Based on some really good reviews, I decided to give them another chance and just mounted a set of RS3's.  After 500 miles, they are just meh.  They are a little less confidence inspiring than the roached Metz Z8s they replaced :(
