  1. Yeah thankfully Mike had some screws that fit, I think I replaced 7 of them. I'll look more at the cover tomorrow, or after the carbs are done.

I probably had some on my bench you could have had! That set of carbs is pretty much a "parts pile" now. I might use one of the bodies, and misc pieces here and ther on my bike, but not the whole set.

  2. It's a brand new battery, well earlier this year. Never had any electrical issues.

No didn't pull the cover yet. Got all the carb screws broken loose, after using an impact driver, vise grips and a dremel to slot them and use a flat tip screw driver. Those damn bolts were tight!! And I got one cleaned out pretty good, 3 more to go.

I'm gonna get a gasket for that side before I pull the cover since it it seeping a little bit.

Should've grabbed my Snap-on phillips bit, it has ACR's to keep it from "camming out" out the screw head.

That cover might not even take a gasket, or even if it does, you can probably use sealer (Hondabond, or the right stuff, not just RTV).

  3. So how long and how often do we really need to change oil? If u just changed filters would the gunk never build up?

Buy a GM, the PCM will tell you when the oil has degraded.... :nono:

/sarcasm I don't trust that system, and still recommend 3k for conventional and 4-6k (depending on the vehicle) for synthetic.

Someone mentioned VW in this thread, and 10k intervals. I question that for some of their engines. I know for a FACT that if you go too long just a few times on a 1.8t you WILL have issues. I've had to clean out the oil pickup in several of those.

  4. I've seen worse! But it didn't run.... 2000 Chevy 6.5 Turbo Diesel, I think the engine had about 20k on it, had to have never been changed, ran low on oil, and possibly on overheating problem.

I let my Intrepid (ithe the notorious 2.7 sludge monster engine) go 6k on the last synthetic oil change, and I'm not happy with how the oil looked, so this time it's going to be 4k. Somewhere in the 4-5k range is probably where I'll keep it with synthetic, and 3k on the button for conventional (which I plan to stay synthetic.) The engine has almost 190k on it, I've had it since about 62k, and except for a rod bearing that started "peeling" (replaced just the bearing, no crank damage or anything, after driving 5-8k miles making noise) no problems with the engine!

  5. That looks likr it will be MUCH easier to fix that leak! Even if it needs new carb boots (or whatever it has to attach the carbs) it should be cheap and easy! From what I can see, the valves don't look that bad. They will have some buildup on them, and that doesn't look to be anything out of the normal. You should see some of the cars I've worked on!

I started into my bike a little bit today, but I'll do something unusual for OR and put that in my own thread to keep this one on topic....

  6. When it is all said and done all i really need is a roof over my head and food on the table. Not sure how the whole car thing came to be. I have always enjoyed working on them and modifying them. Only bad habit I really have.

Having the cars and bikes is not a BAD thing by any means. That shouldn't even be a consideration for a woman when looking for a guy. But, the way things are, people are judged by others, and by WHAT THEY HAVE, not WHO THEY ARE. It sounds to me like you're both a decent guy, AND have lot's of cool stuff.
