  1. Timelines are results based. Maybe it's better said, SHOULD be results based. They just don't make up some magic number. The target date, like with anything you set a timeline for, is based upon the amount of time it takes to accomplish a task or set of tasks. Of course when you hit the checkpoints or end dates you have decisions to make. Those decisions may be to alter schedule, or resources, or whatever maybe necessary to properly affect a plan.

I haven't been happy with his tone on a lot of things. There are things he needs to taken a much stronger tone with. Of course theres plenty I disagree with him on but unless he steps it up the democrats are going to waste time dreaming about unicorns and the republicans are going to continue to be obstructionists.

I completely agree with everything you said, you said what I meant but did much much better. Except for the last 10 words. The repub's are irrelevant as they should be. The Dem's have the White House, the Senate and the House. They were given a massive mandate by the voters and they were given all the power they need to get it done. Please hold them responsible for anything that does not get done. If you don't then this madness will continue.

The Dem's blame the Repubs to get you all fired up. To create a target for your anger and to keep you from seeing that if things don't seriously change during this administration that it is 100 percent the Dems fault. No different than what Repubs do, but it is time we started facing the facts.

    They are all the same.

  2. In the mean time there will be no incentive for the local governments to do anything on their own with no "drop dead" date.

I don't like timelines that are based upon 'time'. They should be results based. When we get to this point...this result...we will start the 1 year process to withdraw....something like that.

But what has gotten lost here is that Obama's timeline isn't a drop dead date. Sec Def Gates was before the Senate today saying the timeline is flexible and will be evaluated all along the way. Obama made the right call here, the political reality is that without this timeline the left would have gone apeshit and not supported him on this one and he might have had a REAL hard time getting funding.

First time since he took office that I actually support him 100 percent on how he played it. It was the best he could do. I only object to the tone of his speech. He was no were near strong enough. He did not drive home the point that victory was the only option well enough.

  3. I have argued with several of my "less than conservative" friends who voted for Obama because "he said he was going to end the war". I've heard them say it' date=' but never heard him say it.[/quote']

I think that is the underlying problem with voters today, from both sides of the isle. They hear what they want to hear. Bush never claimed to be fiscally conservative and his record as governor was quite the oposite. but everyone was surprised when he spent money like crazy. But part of the blame falls on MSM, they just report sound bites.

  4. Obama never mentioned pulling out of Iraq.

"As a candidate for president, I made clear my support for a timeline of 16 months to carry out this drawdown, while pledging to consult closely with our military commanders upon taking office to ensure that we preserve the gains we’ve made and protect our troops," Obama said. "Those consultations are now complete, and I have chosen a timeline that will remove our combat brigades over the next 18 months.

"Let me say this as plainly as I can: by August 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end."

  5. Oh yeah there was a timeline set to pull out of Iraq. By the Bush Administration. Mid last year. Gee maybe because they released they needed at least some target date or date range to pull out by to pressure the Iraqi's a bit more...

That is intellectually dishonest. Bush set the with drawl time line AFTER the surge worked. Not before. Big difference.

  6. There has to be a timeline. It's golden rule of doing anything. If you want to have a chance to succeed, you have to set a target date.

There was no timeline for Iraq's surge. It was a huge surge and we are going to kick butt and finish the job. It worked very well. You can't have a timeline in war it is to unpredictable.

  7. Obama during campaigning saying he will pull troops out of Afghanistan.

I think you may have a hard time finding that. His campaigning was always pull out of Iraq and concentrate on Afghanistan. He ripped Bush non-stop for fighting the 'wrong' war and not focusing on Afghanistan. It was a major theme in his campaign. I think Obama is scum but tonight is actually the closest he has come to keeping a campaign promise. What surprises me the most is the left is screaming about this surge in Afghanistan. Guess they were not listening to him during the campaign.

  8. Sale ends tonight it looks like.

Edit: Additional info. Most Sears stores have this in stock, you can just go there and get the deal. If you start to order it online hit store pickup and you can check stock based upon zip code. I just got mine home and for 60 bucks it is a great deal.

  9. I am considering floorboards for my V Star and wanted to get the opinion of any that have ever had floorboards. Good' date=' bad, not worth the money?

    [/quote']

I just traded in my old bike for a new bike. The old one had pegs, the new one has floorboards. I did 1600 miles the last three days going down to the dragon and back. I will never not have floorboards again.

Edit: Read your other thoughts. Yes the right foot hanging off the peg drove me crazy also. Yes you lose some ground clearance but it doesn't seem too bad. Hard for me to say for sure how much it is because I am comparing to completely different bikes. But I am not unhappy with my ground clearence, I only scrapped a board on the Dragon once and I should not have leaned it as much as I did. Everything in life is a trade off, you have to weight the pluses and minuses, as you are.

  10. If your subpoenaed and your not the defendant the company HAS to give you time off without penalty. I don't believe they have to pay you....

    Correct.

It is the wifes choice, use vacation/personal days to get paid OR take unpaid days off. If she chooses unpaid time off the employer cannot penalize her in anyway. But either way she has to show up. At this point I would go unpaid and see if the employer will work with her on short notice.....

  11. Aperture and it's effects on light

    And it's effects on DoF.

For the OP. If you are still here reading our blather and still camera shopping I suggest the website below to do camera comparisons. Very nice database, you can compare models side by side. Tons of reviews. Narrow it down to two or three then go to the store and see which one feels best in your hands.

  12. IMO It was just a one hour episode that had 3 times as many commercials an half the action.

Wife and I feel the same. We have decided enough is enough and will switch to recording watching it later without the commercials.

  13. If you have the patience to learn all the cool things about an SLR camera then it is indeed worth it.

    +1

Cameras don't take great photo's. Good cameras being used by someone that knows how to use it take good photo's. If you will take the time to learn about F stops and all that you will get much better shots and you practice a lot. If you just want to set it to auto and click then stick with a point ans shoot.

  14. interesting... the helmet usage is confusing though, does motorcyclists injured indicate LESS death?

It says 'injured' not deaths. So like you I am not moved by that particular statistic. So they had a helmet on...didn't die but got bad road rash and that counts as 'injured' I think.

Also, does more % being helmeted indicate the cause (probably not) or just a subject of how many people wear their helmet in comparison to not?

Exactly. The statistic they should be showing us is percentage dead not wearing a helmet (as a percentage of the total not wearing a helmet) vs percentage dead wearing a helmet. (as a percentage of total wearing).

I think the part of the graph you zero'd in on is pointless, it doesn't give us any useful info. And the rest of the graph needs to take into account miles driven per year. I am of the firm belief that motorcycle miles per year are WAY up the last few years.

But other than that, great graph.

  15. Your only bet is the services like log me in, gotomypc...

This really is the best answer for someone that does not know what they are doing to set up direct remote desktop. A little program that runs on your server, wont hurt a thing and is pretty secure. I like log me in, they have a free version that works well. It will take you 10 minutes to set this all up.

And for the record, I would not open up remote desktop directly to the outside. If you must do it this way then what you need to do is set up a good VPN system. VPN connect your home computer to the work network...then it is just like you are there.
