  1. the consensus seems to be stay WAY THE FUCK AWAY. I have no personal experience, but I've NEVER heard anything good.
  2. I'm believe they told you that, but I also believe they were citing a study that was later proven to be downright wrong.
  3. what a well stated rebuttal. I see your point. No, my dad drives one, but gosh I just haven't gotten around to sitting in it, let alone driving it for a few 250+ mile road trips... Clearly the time you sat in one at an auto show outweighs any real world experience i have with the car. If you're 'cool' image is so important to you, thats fine, but it's irrelevant in this argument of MPG. I'm not sure the Malibu is going to be any better or worse as far as 'cool' factor anyway. But again, my point was simply that hybrids can still get WAY more than 30mpg, I was responding to the notion that hybrids are worthless because the new malibu gets a whopping 30mpg. That's all. The prius does compete with the Malibu. They may not be in the exact same class, but I can guarantee you that plenty of people who went to look at the accord, camry, malibu, etc. also checked out the prius. Yes, it's a smaller car, but it's similarly priced, holds as many people, holds a decent amount of stuff, and comes with just as many (if not more) features. Plenty of people check them out to see if the huge increase in gas mileage is worth the small decrease in space (oh, and the un-cool factor).
  4. Ha, when I run a red light, clever. we're not talking about crash standards, we're talking about MPG. Besides, the prius and xb would be damn near as safe as a malibu in a collision. Both have five star crash test ratings, both have full side curtain and a-pillar airbags. what would your 'avy' look like if i ran it over with a dump truck? does that mean a dump truck that gets 3mpg is a good choice? is that even relevant to this argument or my original point? no. I do understand that, in fact i never said anything to the contrary. I'm glad to see GM making a good car that gets decent gas mileage. My point was simply that 30mpg is not exactly some huge feat in the big picture, plenty of cars have been doing the same or better for quite a while. actually, my dad (or the junkyard he sells it to in 8 years) will call the 1-800 number on the battery, get $200 from toyota in exchange for the battery, and Toyota will recycle it with the recycling program they have in place, turning the materials into stainless steel and new batteries. yeah whatever.
  5. The article/study your basing this information off of was widely and seriously discredited a long time ago. You can search for 'prius worse than hummer for environment proven wrong' or something to that extent and find what im talking about.
  6. Even if you completely ignore the environmental benefits, the less fuel we use as a country in general, the better off we are. We are entirely too dependant on foreign oil and you just can't argue otherwise. If the entire country drove something that got 54mpg like the prius, we'd be in a lot better of a situation in the global economy. I'm hoping GM releases a serious hybrid capable of competing with the prius in MPG, price, and quality so we can buy American AND decrease our oil consumption at the same time. The hybrid SUV is a big step for SUV's, but it still a fucking SUV. those looking for 50mpg have nowhere to look right now except toyota and few european diesels.
  7. My dad's prius averaged 54 mpg last tank. While the malibu numbers are pretty good, they're still a joke compared to a hybrid. 30mpg isnt exactly some milestone either, my xb seats as many as a malibu, holds more shit, and gets the same thing...

    It begins

i dont doubt a word of what you're saying, i simply maintain that a properly built/tuned rotary will run just fine. It's unfortunate that there are shops out there who do a shitty job and poorly represent the engine as a whole.

  12. was it an auto? because they have no problem busting their ass sideways...
  13. you came to the wrong place to ask about an RX-8. it's literally the opposite of what everyone here likes. It handles well, it's 'slow' in a straight line, and 'it dont make no TORK!'. But with a 9k RPM redline, it does make plenty of power which is what actually matters, enough to run in the 14's which is pretty respectable in my opinion. It got a nice practical interior loaded with features, it will haul of four of your friends, and it will outhandle literally anything else for the price. It's a great daily driver for someone who wants something a litte bit fun, especially on exit ramps. Think more along the line of Four seater S2000 hardtop, not corvette freeway killer. (you can see why no one here appreciates it). The reliability is a myth, and they run fine as long as you maintain them as you would any other car. 3-5k mile oil changes will be fine, and every now and then when you're pumping gas, check the oil level because they inject oil as part of their lubrication design. (I HEARD DEM CARS BURN EARL FROM THE FACTORY!). As far as quality goes, the RX-8's have actually had less engine replacements than the 350z, but is that considered an unreliable car? The biggest downside is the gas mileage. They seem to get right around 19mpg pretty much regardless of how you drive them. It's really only marginally worse than other cars you would compare it to, and dont let the LSx boys fool you, most of them get right around there on an average tank too (with city driving). They simply have the benefit of idling along in 6th at 70mph and 1500rpm's. I've blabbered enough, but the moral of the story is: its a good car, if you like it, you buy it. as long as its a manual.

    QSL is Dead :\

the biggest problem with self policing is that the idiots always seem to outnumber non-idiots. the trouble makers seem to roll in packs of 500+, and generally look like trashy idiots who you dont even want to approach. The people who arent causing trouble in the first place (myself included) aren't the usually type to confront stupid people, mostly because you never know what some drunk idiot and his homies will do when you 'disrespect' them.
  15. my moped gets well over 100mpg, i think i've filled it up like 3 times ever. I WIN THIS THREAD!

    QSL is Dead :\

private meets suck. whats the point of going through all the trouble of a private spot and secret shit and everything just to see the same ten cars you always see? the beauty of a big public meet like QS&L is you can see new cars, and meet new people.
  17. hahahaha, yes! unfortunately, usually shops/garages have those tankless toilets that make that impossible...
  18. nice numbers! now if only it were a manual.........
  19. Your biggest mistake was putting yourself on his level by not only acknowledging him, but confronting him and passing him. Any self respecting person would have ignored him. You took yourself to his level of stupidity, and are therefore also stupid. I hope you do better next time.
  20. I know exactly what I'm talking about, its been all but official for a long time, but you made a thread like it was some shocking news, so you obviously had no clue it was even in the works. most people have known about this deal for a good long time, so when the 'official' announcement was made it really wasnt a surprise.
  21. BECAUSE YOU'S A BITCH!!! RACE ME FROM A 40 ROLL FOR A C-NOTE PUSSY!!!! there, now it belongs.
