    OR bike nights 2010

Personally, I think it's way better if we 'spontaneously' create a bike night at a place that doesn't do bike nights-- just randomly show up with as many people as we can gather, and take the shit over for an evening. Do a different one every week, and when one place actually responds well, we stay there. Of course, I also enjoy telling McDonalds counter-slaves that there's a bus in the parking lot, just to watch the crew start freaking the fuck out.

  4. I've seen F-150's get some pretty ridiculous lifespans, provided they were well-maintained. But generally, yeah, it's Hondas and 'yotas that regularly hit 300k+ miles.
  5. Don't worry, I'll take $10 to Meijer and buy some. Probably ought to throw another coat on your tank anyway.
  6. Yeah, I've got a few good offers over the last couple of days, but I actually bought the 600 Ninja that 1000RRRider was selling on here. So, I'm no longer looking for a little Ninja, mods can close this thread.
  7. And why am I forced to buy into this damned socialized water, too? I can afford bottled water. And I shouldn't be taxed to support the military, police, or fire departments-- I can hire my own security!!! And those roads-- poor people drive on public roads! How dare someone imply that sometimes I might have to pay into the society which allows me to live this way?! I EMERGED FULLY FORMED FROM THE MIND OF ZEUS, HOW DARE SOMEONE CLAIM THAT HUMANS HAVE BEEN FORMING GROUPS FOR MUTUAL SUPPORT AND BENEFIT SINCE THE DAWN OF MAN?!?!?!!! Existence in modern society is only a zero-sum game if you're an asshole.
  8. I think I have 2 sets of risers (one stock, one tall) and two different handlebars that I bought for my shadow ('99 1100) and ended up not using. I'd let you have any of those cheap if you'd have a use for them. If you have bent bars/ risers, these might work on yours. EDIT: Having re-read your posts, you can probably just re-center your bars if they're not bent. Just take an allen wrench to the tops of the risers till they're loose, then wiggle the bars to the side until they're square. Might want to have a buddy hold the front end straight so you can accurately get a feel for it.

  10. It'll be in good hands here. I'm planning to start with the essentials and basics this week/weekend, then I'll begin looking at what to do about the cosmetic stuff. Gimme a month or two and I think it'll be pretty nice. Of course, in my garage 'nice' generally means 'covered in canned flat black and duct tape', but c'est la vie.
  11. It was me, sorry. I'm pretty damned happy with it, although I need to figure out this weird noise on the bottom end, get a new front wheel bearing, and at least 1 tire. And maybe fix the speedo, too. All told, I think I have something to occupy my free time for a little while, anyway.
  12. Just like the title says, I'm looking for an older Ninja 250 (it's about the only thing she fits comfortably on, because she's short). Cheaper is better: cosmetic damage OK, prefer running condition but I'm willing to fix it if it's cheap enough. I can come up with some pretty reasonable money if I need to, but I'd generally take price over quality if anyone has some fugly hunk o' junk taking up space in their garage. Just figured I'd post here and see if anything turned up.

    Purple Helmets

Fucking great! Way more interesting than watching yet another group of douchebags with fake tribal tatts do highchairs with a shitty 90's 'nu-metal' soundtrack.
  15. MSF courses are good stuff. Motorcycle Ohio is a great way to get some basics and your endorsement if you don't already have it. My mom and my wife are both taking the BRC in July. If you need to take it, you should sign up soon-- they're booked quite a ways out.
  16. Arrgh, he beat me to it. Dammit, I live nearby, too.
  17. Cheap UJM-- $700 Roll of ductape-- < $6 Small portable toolkit-- <$25 Sturdy work boots with thick soles -- $120 That's what I spent to set up my first bike. Insurance was a couple hundred bucks a year.
  18. Wash? Nah, just ride in the rain once in a while. It's made to be ridden, not seen.
  19. Moved the axis by like 3 inches, and shortened the day by a handful of microseconds, if I remember right. But it's happened before-- pretty much any time large amounts of mass alter the overall distribution on the planet. Atmospheric movements supposedly do the same thing once in a while.
  20. He lives in a pole barn off the grid and doesn't allow video? I think this dude is way more interesting than how you did at the range-- Is he writing a manifesto, by chance?
  21. Nice! Mine had an identical paintjob, but it had enough dings and such that I had to murder it out. Spraycan black ftw. These are great old bikes, it's good to see someone else keeping one alive. Incidentally, where'd you find those bars and how much did it cost to get the carbs dialed in? I hate these stock bars, and the extra air screw has made tuning this one an unbelievable pain in the ass.
  22. Mother Nature saw Jersey Shore on TV and said, "Oh no, you assholes need to gtfo!" Seriously, though, wtf is this shit? At least the initial reports seem to be saying it's centered around a less densely-populated area. Of course, most news agencies are still looking for Chile on the map, so it'll probably be hours yet before any solid details emerge.
  23. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozambique_Drill 2 in the pink and one in the st-- I mean, two in the chest, one in the head.
  24. I'm apparently all three- I commonly think large amounts of non-immediate questions while acting on the immediate situation, and I'm vindictive as hell, so I probably would empty the damn thing into him.
