  1. I have a Ruger M77 MkII in 22-250 Remington, shooting Winchester JHP "Varmint" rounds at 4000fps. One time when I was trying to shoot a groundhog the little bastard prairie-dogged right as I pulled the trigger. The bullet took hi leg off instead of hitting him in lungs/heart. He started running in circles, so I had to get close to finish him off. I only had two rounds in the rifle (a spare in case the frist round doesn't kill him) It wasn't until about 20' away that I could get a clean shot to finish him off (first shot was from 300'). "Blood and guts" was the most appropriate description of the scene. Gruesome, and I was pretty bummed about make the little fucker suffer. I used to shoot groundhogs for pest control until a new warehouse was built within 1/2 mile downrange of me (prior to that the nearest building was 3 miles downrange). I just left them for the turkey vultures. Within 48hours they were gone. This one, though, was gone much quicker.
  2. Weapon? Cheater. You should go out there naked, in the snow, with your bare hands and bite the 'yote to death.
  3. Did you miss? Did you hit his belly or is there an entrance wound we can't see? Would hate to see it suffer. I used to shoot groundhogs with a .22LR but they didn't die quick enough for my liking/conscience. Got a 22-250 and that thing is like the Grim Reaper - the 'hog is dead before he hits the ground - and with those stubby little legs he doesn't have far to fall.

    English?

The funny thing is that people in England think I'm American when they hear me talk. People don't hear local accents - their brain just ignores it. They only pick out the unusual, the foreign. My accent in 70% English, 20% Scottish and 10% American. People in England pick up in the Scottish and American only. Americans only pick up on Scottish and English. The Scots hear the English and American. My brother described it once as; "It sounds like you're putting on a bad fake American accent to impress the ladies."

    English?

Nowt up wi me. As githee a scutch. I don't think my accent is difficult to understand...
  6. '01.. Do you know if that is the most recent? Although being SCOTUS I can't imagine them revisiting so quickly. My cite was from '99, so you win.
  7. According to Penny-Feeny you can. The right against unreasonable searches is based upon two facets of the expectation of privacy: 1) Does the person have a subjective expectation of privacy, and 2) Does society agree that the expectation was reasonable (objective). This is the Katz test. In penny-feeny the court held that the FLIR measures only heat escaping the house, and that the homeowners made no attempt to contain or retain that heat - it was therefore "abandoned", much in the same way as if you threw evidence in a public trash can. (in some cases the heat detected was intentionally vented) That evidence, once abandoned, is no longer your property and you no longer have an expectation of privacy over it. Thus, using a flir to detect the presence of abandoned heat is not an unreasonable search. Robinson is another case where the court upheld FLIR. http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?navby=search&case=/data2/circs/11th/926951opa.html This technology has been challenged many times and that may have led to departmental policies against it, but I've not heard of a case where it was held to be an unreasonable search. I'm open to correction.
  8. How many would you buy? Accepting your guesstimate of $15k each, and knwing that the CPD is a little under 2k sworn officers... To give one to each officer would cost ~$30m Even one per car would be maybe half that, $15m. The 2m you quote would only supply about 133 of these FLIR units. And, when else would they be used? Wait, the officer could point it at the side of a house and detect the heat generate by tyhe grow lamps of an illegal drug operation... Then we have Penny-Feeny all over again. Wanna make a donation?
  9. Same reason they couldn't just chuck a tear gas canister in there - there may be an innocent in the car. Or maybe the subject is unconscious.

    English?

While leading the warmup at the kid's Karate class tonight I was having each kid count to ten out loud in Japanese as we did each exercise. "Ich, Ni, San, Shi, Go..." etc. When I got to the white belts I starting asking; "Can you count in Japanese?" One student (about 7yo) said; "No." I said; "That's ok, please count to ten in English." After a few seconds of confusion he said "I don't know ...English." Me: "Yes you do!" Him: "No I don't" Me: "You're speaking English!" Him: "But, I don't know how to..." Me: "Can you count 'One', 'Two', 'Three' up to 'Ten'?" Him: "Sure" Me: "Just do that then instead."
  11. You'll not get 300 unless it's a PLUS. I bought mine new for 199.
  12. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/02/15/70-mph-limit-gains-speed-at-statehouse.html Passed by the panel - but the "keep right" provision was dropped.
  13. I'm surprised they didn't do that. although that would require them getting close enough to get shot if he was in there. Another question: Who will pay for the damage to his car? It's not like he used in in a crime or anything.
  14. My understanding (open to correction) is that your *first* renewal does not requre the certificate because the ccw class is good for 6 years and the permit is good for 5 - the law assumes your first renewal is within the 6 years of the first class. Your second renewal will required some kind of range competency re-certification however even the first wave of CHL holders aren't up for second renewal until next year.
  15. I heartily recommend the Jockstrap O'death http://www.smartcarry.com/photos.html
  16. I use an IWB and don't have that problem.
  17. Before you rag on them too much - if those windows are limo tint then how can they tell if the car is occupied or not? Do YOU want to be the one who walks up and flips the door open on a felon? How can they figure out of the car is occupied?
  18. That should be your pick-up line in a bar. "Wanna join the mile high club? No, really..."
  19. That car must have to heavily tinted windows to stop the officers being able to see it was empty...

  21. We all know how it goes. Hollywood actors make millions glorifying guns, then spend millions on gettng them banned.
  22. The OP is launching an unilateral boycott against Will Ferrell because Ferrell is hosting a fundraiser for Obama. It won't affect anything and it won't last, but it's good to sound off taking partisanship to the "spite your face" level.
