  1. http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2013/06/22/londonderry-one-dead-one-jailed-after-ross-county-crash.html It should be noted the the left-turning driver was jailed for prior warrants, not the accident.
  2. As soon as I saw the Dandy book I knew it was from the UK. Then comes the Scottish lady... Refreshing, also, that the music is not dubstep.

    Squid time!

When Scruit pulls a squid move, you know it's gonna be on camera. When I get home each day I drive down the left of the metal bollard in the my driveway. Plenty of room. This day the trash can was there so I figured I'd drive down the right side instead. About 2" not enough room for the hard cases. My kid was on the back (7yo?). Both geared up like we're about to face a hoard of zombies so injuries or damages other than a bollard-shaped puncture in the left hard case.
  4. I buy cars that are 2 years old, drive them for 5-7 years then repeat. Have had my current car for 6 years, cost me $18k. Trade-in value on KBB is currently $10k, private party sale is $12k. Assuming I sell it privately the car has cost me $6k for 6 years. I have spent approx $2k in repairs/maintenance that a warranteed car would have done for free. So $8k in 6 years. Costs like gas, tires, brakes and other consumables are the same leased or not so I don't figure that in. So my car has cost me $111/month. Buy: $111/mo or ~$8k Lease (used car, same value): $200/mo or ~$14.5k Maybe I'm doing the math wrong here, but...
  5. So if you moved from Franklin to Delaware and your insurance dropped by 40/mo, would you give 25/mo back saying that it is too much of a difference? Franklin as much more crime, more hit/runs, more accidents altogether. Stuff that being a cop won't mitigate.
  6. My FIL had a bypass a few years back and he'd strong as an ox right now. That type of surgery is very mature.
  7. Why do you say this is evidence that ebay doesn't protect bidders from spammers? The car appears to be described accurately as a replica - it's not claiming to be a true Ferrari.
  8. If his turn is in 200 yards and he's doing 87 mph then he'd better think about throwing the anchor out about now. Plus, Longhorn and june creek is actually in a subdivision in Colorado.
  9. You begged him for that? I gave him rep to make up for it.
  10. We got a tornado warning on my phone at 1:15 until 1:45. No rain or wind, though... I sat up until 1:30 when the rain and wind suddenly started, so we all sat in the basement until it passed. Turned out to be a non-event. 20 mins later we were back in bed.
  11. Next we'll see you on the news like a old lady hoarding cats. "Dozens of motorcycles were rescued today..."
  12. I like it. Not a fast bike but good on fuel (50+mpg) and get me where I need to be. Givi hard cases are nice too, but expensive.
  13. http://www.clickorlando.com/news/man-injured-in-garage-fire-in-palm-bay/-/1637132/20492660/-/ft55xez/-/index.html Your vocabulary word for the day is: stoichiometric ratio. The ratio of a flammable substance to air at which it burns most efficiently. That's why they say well-ventilated area - keeps the fuel concentration below the ideal stoichiometric ratio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoichiometry I am now going to politely site and wait until humans evolve a third arm so that I can triple-facepalm this guy.
  14. I wonder if they only charge that on in-stock cars - so if you order one and get on a waitlist then you don't have to pay it?
  15. I'm at the Subaru dealer getting a recall checked out. While I'm waiting I see there is an Impreza STi with an msrp of $36k. Then it lists a "Dealer installed option" of "availability surcharge: $5k" pushing the price up to $42k Is that exactly what it looks like? They are rubbing your face into their profit margin? Screw that.

  17. Fair enough. I choose to reserve judgement until the facts are known.
  18. You're being judgemental and irrational, although I value your right to your opinion.
  19. You're doing the same thing. You're assuming there was any hope of saving the child. Is there any information that would help us understand if there was any chance at all of saving him? Might the police have saved the father from himself, knowing there was 100% chance of him dying and 0% chance of him saving the boy? Or do you assert that the police should always allow a rescue attempt even if it is doomed to lead to even more loss of life? (I don't know if a rescue attempt would have been in vain, but you seem pretty sure that a rescue would have been possible. What information are you basing that on?)
  20. You are assuming two things: 1) The child was still alive at the time the police stopped the father 2) That there was any hope at all of saving the child, even if still alive. Could you accept that it's possible the police saved the father from a vain attempt to rescue an already-dead child that could only have lead to his own death?
  21. No answers, just questions: How involved was the fire when they stopped him? Was there any hope of saving the child? Why are people making assumptions that (after the police and fire department deemed it too dangerous for firefighters in safety gear and oxygen to go in ) it was safe for the father to go in? If the police let him go in and he died then would the police be vilified for that also? In this situation, was there any combination of action that the police could have done to successfully tiptoe around the inevitable minefield of public criticism? (damned if you do, damned if you don't). Is it possible that the police and firefighters used their judgement and experience to make a logical decision that was for the best? Are people suggesting that the police caused the child's death? Do people envisage a house with wisps of smoke coming out of it and the father being barred entry - or was the fire a raging inferno that would have killed the father the second he set foot inside?
