  1. Ironically, I was actually paying attention to the number of drivers on their phone while I was sat at red lights. The number was surprisingly low, like 1 in 20.
  2. Give me an old diesel hilux, I'll be happy. So the 250 has a 3/4 ton axle, right?
  3. Ah, fair enough. So I was able to CLICK on edit, but by the time I hit SAVE I had crossed that magic 2 minute mark.
  4. It's a bit of both. I believe the override of the safety beam due to the height of the bumper was part of the problem (driver's liability) and the knuckle failure causing loss of braking was the other part of the problem (manufacturer liability). Failure of the knuckle on an appropriate-height vehicle would have been mitigated by the safety systems in the jeep - and the high of the bumper would have been mitigated by fully functioning brakes. With my Bronco the only thing I did to raise it up was bigger tires - that adds like 2 or 3 inches to the bumper height - I'm still well within the legal bottom-of-bumper height for this weight class vehicle. Even then, if I get rear-ended by a sloping-nosed vehicle like a corvette or miata it'll miss my bumper and hit my fuel tank skidplate. I'm looking at my options for a quick-adjust setup for the bumpers - lower on road, but easy to raise for improved approach/departure angles off road.
  5. Looks like one of those quarterback cheat-sheets they have.
  6. We just spent $5500 having our dog's cateracts removed. Then she developed acute glaucoma and needed a second surgery a few days later to save her newly restored sight. They were only able to save one eye. So now I'm $7500 poorer and my dog can only see in one eye. Worth it? I dunno.
  7. I have a Cub Cadet snowblower too. I tried to edit my prior post to add this but it says I'm not allowed to edit??
  8. I got an old cub cadet riding mower with 750 hours on it for $50 (broken down, neighbor gave me it for free and I fixed it with just a new coil). I also have a Swisher offset trail-behind that I got on closeout from TSC about 6 or 7 years ago for $650. This combo has an 84" swath - can cut my 2 acre plot in about 45 minutes (90% is open field of grass).
  9. What source of information do you have that identifies the driver as being unfit to drive?
  10. 250/yr for Comprehensive on my DL650 from AmFam, with enough additional coverage for accessories - not just the naked bike.
  11. I can't think of a single time when I've been in a car and seen someone open their door in stop-and-go driving. If someone does that while bikes are lane splitting past him I'd be first to call it an intentional act. As was said before, it would have to be legal and accompanied by a massive public information campaign and signs and stuff that all point out not only that lane splitting is legal, but that drivers that change lanes or opening doors have to yield to lane splitters. I'd be all for allowing bikes to use the emergency lanes during stop-and-go traffic. That would allow us to remain safely clear of car doors. I also advocate a law I call "Vulnerable road user intimidation". Any person who uses their vehicle to intimidate another vehicle less than half their size. Any car that tries to muscle a bike out of a lane or tailgate a bike would be charged, and it would be a DUI-level offense - and helmet cam footage can be used to issue the ticket.
  12. I'd only lane split in Ohio if cars were stopped completely and I was going walking pace.
  13. That's the one... Here from my dashcam: https://youtu.be/LWLIEn8pYw0?t=19s
  14. Different accident - that was 270 at 23 in Worthington - the one with the bikes was 270 at 33 in Dublin.
  15. Out of state tags. Couple of baggers down on the freeway about a mile north/east of the Dublin exit in the counterclockwise lanes. Anyone got any info? Backed up traffic to 23 at one point. By the time I drove past there were no bikers present - likely transported already.
  16. That's the key. There are rare stories like "The passing truck just caught a half-inch of his helmet and broke his neck - if he had not been wearing a helmet then the semi would have missed his head." or "I hit a moose and survived by laying down across the bench seat - had I been wearing a seatbelt I'd have been held in place when the moose came through the windshield" These stories exist, and they are probably true - but in the vast and overwhelming majority of cases the safest path is to wear the belt, wear the helmet, stay on your wheels.
  17. I have heard people claim knowledge of some accident in which the "a helmet would have killed him" or "a seatbelt would have killed him". I categorize "I had to lay it down" together with those. It is something that they think is cool to say, but makes experienced and intelligent folks think; "dumbass". Never say never - however real cases are so rare that nobody should actually plan on doing it.

    Salvagetitle

There is a section for brands. What does it say? Look up the title # online - is there anything listed in the brands box?

If you go for plates on it and the BMV issues them then I'd say you are good. Something an insurance person says on the phone doesn't matter - if the title is not branded then it is not branded. If there is some brand or other legal roadblock that prevents them issuing plates then they will explain to you what needs to be done. It is much more likely they will refuse to issue the plates by mistake than issue invalid plates by mistake. The BMV is not out to trick you out of having a legally drivable vehicle.
  20. Can you take the money and fix the garage yourself? The labor savings may allow you to build a nicer garage.
  21. Huh. My insurance names me as owner and does not list or exclude anyone.
  22. I wonder if the kid was specifically excluded. Or her insurance was for only her. Weird.
  23. It's difficult to imagine the insurance company would lie about who is covered. If you claim against your own insurances then THEY will sort out who is covered and who is not. There won't be any lying or confusion once the subrogation gets under way.
  24. What proof of insurance did you need? You are already talking with the car owner's insurers. He could give the court an insurance card for the car and they'll accept - are excluded drivers listed on the card? Or was her insurance for her only? So the prosecutor knows he was not covered by that policy yet didn't say anything to the judge? That's messed up. Still, you car insurance should cover the mustang. Will your home insurance cover the building? Then let THEM chase payment until the end of all time.
