  1. A few good books on travel in the U.S...Roadshow by Neal Peart,Purple Mountains by Notch Miyake and The Ride So Far by Lance Oliver. On a local not...Lance Oliver's book has the most accurate description of riding 555 that I have ever read. As for international touring...have you checked out the ride report,"Sold our house, quit our jobs, going riding" on sport-touring.net?Very entertaining and a lot of great photography.
  2. Not this hippy. I know the media either lies or just don't know any better. They are selling you another bad deal just like the casino deal. NO on issue 3. I'm already anticipating the thread where all the people who voted for issue 3 will be pissing and moaning about how the law isn't what they thought it would be.Of course, that will be five years and millions of taxpayer dollars after all the legal b.s. if issue 2 passes.
  3. Thanks,it'll probably next year before I can get over there.
  4. Any info on those awesome loops?I need to get over that way more often. Nice line up of bikes,I think I would be very happy on any of them.

    Park On 536...

It's about 3 miles off of 536.The road that takes you there is across from the community center after you climb the hill out of Hannibal. You can also get there from 7.In jnor's pictures he's looking North towards the old Ormet Plant.Looking South you can see all of Hannibal and all of New Martinsville. It's probably the best overlook in southeastern Ohio.
  6. Well,in a case of better late than never ODOT is just about done paving 78 from Bishopville to Malta.Paving is completed from Bishopville to Hickory Ridge, which is about 2 miles from 377.They're still working on edging that section and they still need to paint the edge lines.Other than that touch up work you have brand new pavement on the best section of one of the best roads in Ohio. Sunday's weather is supposed to be decent and Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be even better! ODOT has served up a really fun reward for all you late season riders out there. BTW,the Muskingum county section of 555 also has new pavement,so you have very good pavement from Zanesville to 78 at Ringgold. The part from Portersville to Ringgold is a little older, but very good for the most part.
  7. Nope,I don't even smoke anymore,I'm going by a friend of mine who was living in California and had a medical card and then moved to Colorado so he could buy it legally for recreation. He moved back to California because he didn't think the quality was that good in Colorado. He knows a thing or two about homegrown also. It's his passion. My concern is how heavy is the regulation going to be by the commission that they are setting up?Is quality going to be limited to some standard? ...or good seeds or clones.Skill?Like anything else,if you like what you're doing it will come with experience and study.
  8. Thataboy,fuck McDonald's quality herb.
  9. I'll take my chances that it will come up again in a different form. There's too much money to be made to just let it go.
  10. I read that in the Sunday October. 11 Columbus Dispatch. It was the League of Women Voters explanation of issue 3.I just read the text of the law on line and I didn't see it specifically state that you would have to buy the 4 plants from the 10 growers.
  11. I just glanced through the Industry Week article you referenced.I noticed one glaring oversight...America's war on unions and how that affected training and apprenticeships. They mentioned that the electrical industry has more apprentices than nearly all,or all,of the manufacturing industry.I' wouldn't be surprised if nearly all of those 33,000 electrical apprentices are union apprentices. That article was just more pandering for corporate welfare.Unions have trained apprentices for decades without government money,if they don't want unions it's time for corporations to pay for their own training.Don't just complain about unskilled works, hire people and train them. Since corporations don't want unions they are pushing the cost of training onto the individual, and in many cases, onto the taxpayers through educational assistance.
  12. I'm all for legal marijuana, totally against issue 3.It should be total free market,I want the equivalent of micro brewerys, not just the Budweisers. Also with issue 3,if you want to grow your own you have to buy the plants from the big 10 growers. It 's all bad...vote it down and hope the next try is better.
  13. Two things I can think of off the top of my head.1)The people who are hiring illegals don't want to pay legal wages or taxes.2)Once the illegal becomes a a legal citizen why would they work for shit wages when they could make much more on welfare. Want to solve the problem?Deport the people that hire illegals, confiscate their property, use that money to go after the next slimeball that hires illegals.Jobs will dry up,problem solved.

    Central Ohio Rides

Hey Jacob....this might be late but since you will be in the area 78 has new pavement from Glouster to at least Ringgold(555).The east bound lane had the base coat down to within 3 miles of 377 on Monday. Also,if you choose to head north on 555 at Ringgold all of the rough sections have been paved so 555 is in very good condition from 78 to Zanesville. I hope you get this in time,I'm heading down that way in about a half an hour.
  15. Bill's has some pretty good BBQ,it's about 3 miles north of the mall on 60(Maple).Donald's has some good donuts,of course not the best thing for someone with diabetes.
  16. That's pretty much my thoughts on cold weather riding. This year I'm really thinking about heading to California around the first of November and just staying there until at least April.I'm not looking forward to an Ohio winter.
  17. Thanks for the info on 26.I went over an rode it yesterday...it was very fun.I also see why they didn't pave between145 and 148,it's already in very good condition.Just a little blast down 148 and you can link the newly paved 147/9 and that great ride down 26 to Woodsfield. From there I headed towards the Marietta area to check out some new pavement in that area. I've been spending most of my riding time West of 77 for the last couple of years, but the northern part of SEO east of 77 is making a come back in road surface quality. That's one of the things I like about SEO...if you follow ODOT and county paving around the area there is always some great riding somewhere and you don't get bored riding the same routes. Thanks again.
  18. They didn't happen to pave past 145 did they, like up to 148?
  19. We are getting the government we deserve.
  20. Yes,you can get to the Wilds from 284.284 of off 83 was paved last year, but only to the county line. The Muskingum county side has much older pavement which is too bad because it's the twistier part of 284.If the Muskingum county side was paved it would definitely be worth a ride...not a top 10 or 20 road, but fun.As it is,it's o.k.,but It will leave you thinking about how fun it would be with better pavement.I know,I used 284 for my commute when I was working in Lewisville earlier in the year.It sucked to hit that county line and loss that good pavement when you knew there was some good curves ahead.
  21. If you would have turned right instead of left you would have had a very good section of 555 to ride. But you made the right choice,676 is one of my favorite roads and it's in very good condition right now. As for the w.w.weekend write up...those pictures are about 5-7 years old.I know a few of those places and they don't look like that now. Anything north of Portersville is not in good shape.
  22. Hey Phil, If a repeat of this ride doesn't happen I might be able to help you wear a little bit of that rubber off.Me and Dave(scrapedup) ran a route in this area last week that you might be interested in.
  23. This is why I haven't been riding east of I77 the last couple of years. It's been a long time since a lot of the good roads have been paved and the effects of fracking has only made it worse.Too much good stuff west of 77 to bother with riding east very often.
  24. I was going to head over to WV tonight for a three day camping/riding trip based out of Pipestem SP,but it looks like I might have to go back to work instead.61 was definitely on my agenda! A lot of good stuff in the Beckley area.Coal City Road (cr29) is well worth a try.It runs from 16 near Crab Orchard (Exit 42 on I64) to Rhodell which is also near 16.I haven't been over there for a little over a year so I can't vouch for road conditions, but if it is still in good shape I think you would like it.
