  1. I can't read that without laughing out loud no matter how many times I try.
  2. I hear you need a tether kill switch too, which is really lame. Let me know if this is NOT the case for future reference...
  3. Ha - You must have me confused with someone else. Pro practicer here. Never raced anything on two wheels over 82cc. See you at the track days... when you pass me.
  4. I am told "mostly dirt, some asphalt though." No idea how they plan to do it.
  5. I have the opposite opinion. The soft edge of the 2CT seems to get shredded quick if you're on it all the time. Would make for a nice margin of safety on the street.
  6. If you want to have some sober fun go roll up to it all shady-like and make a quick turn down the last available sidestreet.
  7. May 18th is cancelled. Look for updates at www.briarcliffmx.com
  8. Don't lube the threads. Unless otherwise specified (some head bolts, etc.), given torque values assume clean, DRY threads. By lubing the threads, you are effectively overtorquing the fastener. I am told anti-seize is OK, but I have never verified this. Among many other things, I was irritated to find someone greased the threads of my front axle bolt (and probably gorilla torqued it on top of that judging from the rest of the front end). Perhaps "Apply a thin layer of grease to front axle surface" was misunderstood.
  9. Anybody who grew up in the Cleveland area knows this is fake.
  10. Check out this page from Carroll Smith's "Screw to Win" (aka nuts, bolts, fasteners and plumbing handbook). http://books.google.com/books?id=A81HmmRCN7YC&lpg=PA48&ots=ZwiGDHAARz&dq=safety%20wire%20does%20not%20keep%20things%20tight&pg=PA48#v=onepage&q&f=false
  11. P.S. Safety wire isn't meant to hold things tight as much as it is a visual verification that something was properly torqued. While it may keep things from falling out, if a fastener has already loosened to the point that .025 wire is holding it in, the joint is compromised.
  12. Neither. Some monkey (probably one without a manual ) previously german-torqued them, over did it, and necked the fastener. You already noticed that when you stretch the bolts, they get thinner, and with the reduced cross-sectional area, weaker. This is correct. 05 moved to radial mount calipers. See above. And this is why I need to drill holes in my goddamn bike. It's a lowest-common-denominator catch-all. If the shit was put together right everytime it wouldn't fall apart. /rant Nothing personal Chris, just strokes a nerve as I've spent my last 50 hours of free time in the garage wrenching on something of questionable history.
  13. How the phuck do you bend axle pinch bolts? Nevermind, I probably don't want to know.
  14. Saturday looks good. Kicking myself now. I'll be in the garage watching the weather for Sunday.
  15. What the hell is it? My phone keeps asking me to install it and I keep saying, "Later."
  16. Same here guy. I really can't do weekdays anymore.
  17. I was thrashing to get ready for Saturday and pretty much failed. Still possible for Sunday, but watching the weather. If anyone plans to completely bail on a Sunday spot due to weather let me know - I have something I'd like to shake down regardless of conditions.
  18. I love the Pony - it's like motorcycle Walmart. They don't necessarily have the best stuff and I can get it cheaper elsewhere online, but if I need something right now it's great to head to a brick and mortar down the street that actually stocks stuff. If dealers actually stocked stuff I'd support them too. So sick of hearing, "We don't have it but we can order it," that I don't even bother asking anymore. Why the hell would I drive down to pay you for it, then drive down again a week later to pick it up, when I can have it show up on my doorstep quicker and cheaper?
  19. Issue 10 http://cyclenews.coverleaf.com/cyclenews/20110419#pg1 There's a few in between, I'm sure you could figure out the pattern.
  20. Seriously? Just you wait... it seems to come in waves.

    First rides

I rode dirt bikes a few years before street, I just remember feeling like I was doing something really illegal by riding on the road. That turned into a grin thinking, "Yeah, that's right, I'm riding a motorcycle on the street and it's 100% legit." I started riding buddies' bikes when I got my temps and I remember stopping by my parents' and my mom saying, "All you need to do is pass a written test and they let you ride a MOTORCYCLE on the STREET? That's scary!"
  22. A clunk and even a bit of a forward jolt is normal. It is the inertia of your drivetrain that was spinning in neutral coming to a sudden halt. If it doesn't try to creep with the clutch in I wouldn't worry too much about it. A fully disengaged clutch will spin the rear wheel on the stand just due to the viscosity of the oil between the plates.
  23. I've never had to remove my race lower for a trackday. (No.)
