  1. We can scan, however, in a large city or with a big event the radio is so busy with the radio traffic from your own talk group that it is almost impossible. I know that a lot of the suburbs monitor our air, but we can't do the same.
  2. What side would his damage be on. I know you said that it was turning left, but was it front, side, or rear damage.
  3. It is very common to use different channels when there is an event going on, and believe me, it really pisses us off. For an event like Red, White, and Boom we may have 6 different channels going for different units working in the exact same area. It's not so bad until there is an emergency and there are officers who may be within 100 yards but have no idea that there is a problem.
  4. Did you see which taxi company, or do you remember the color of the cab?
  5. I haven't ridden dirt in about 10 years. But like someone said earlier, the HJCs are nice until you try something else. I have only had HJCs since I have started buying helmets with the exception of my first Bell dirt helmet that I bought in about 1982. I just didn't know what I was missing until this morning!

  7. I ordered my helmet at about Midnight on Saturday. I received an e-mail confirmation that my order was being processed on Monday. And I received my new helmet at 11:30 AM today. No additional shipping fees other than the $9.95 standard shipping. My total bill was $109.90. It is pretty safe to say that sportbiketrackgear.com kicks ass. I hate ordering things online because I always screw something up, but this was a great experience.
  8. I don't want you to think that the post before this one that I quoted was directed at you. Like I said before, you are still responsible for your actions. However, in a case with the same facts, I would think you would be looking a civil suit at best rather than criminal charges.
  9. You are correct, I did mean to say that there is no way that he would have been charged, and yes, I am a P.O. I am not saying that the victim would not have to go through the Grand Jury process in a case like this. Even a P.O. who has been shot, returns fire, and kills his assailant still has to go through Grand Jury (at least with our department). But the likelihood of having charges leveled by a G.J. is next to none. As far a prolonging the confrontation, I can't see how anyone would consider shooting at the 3rd armed guy who was attempting to join the fight as prolonging. The victim was still in the thick of the fight with 2 armed attackers actively assaulting him. One of the first things that we learned doing scenarios in the academy (years ago) is that just because an armed person is running away from you does not mean that he is not a threat. One of our officers was chasing what he thought was a person suspected of breaking into cars. He had no idea that the suspect was armed. The suspect pulled a gun from inside his coat, tucked it between his arm and body, never turned around or looked back and fired. It was dumb luck, but he struck the officer in the femur, shattering it. Running away does not necessarily make him less of a threat. The guy in this case may have been taking up a position of cover to get a better shot.
  10. I must have missed something in a post somewhere. I don't understand how there is even a question of a person having the right to defend their own life (or the life of another for that matter) in a life threatening attack. In the Constitution we are guaranteed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Yes, you still have an obligation to be reasonable and not reckless in your actions. However, when you have 3 armed suspects attacking you, and a weapon has already discharged (the dip shit getting his fingers blown off), the thresh hold for reasonable becomes lower. In this case, reckless would have been a crowded street at lunch time with a back drop of 1000 people. It would be much more difficult to call it reckless at "around 7:00 AM" when there are more than likely few to no people on the street. But it still goes back to the fact there were 3 armed attackers who did not have the intention getting away. Their intention was to rob and or kill the victim in this case. If their intention was to get away, when the victim grabbed the gun inside of the house, the bad guy would have let go and both would have run away. But they didn't. Instead, they fought over a loaded gun that one suspect had already put in the face of the victim while the second suspect beat the victim with a presumably loaded gun. It is cut and dry, he more than likely would have died if they were given the chance.
  11. Now I'm not saying that if he had hit someone other than the three shit heads involved that he wouldn't be in trouble. But given the situation and the posted facts it would never be an issue here.
  12. So were you part of one of the groups that we always get calls about: group of motorcycles S/B 71 100+ mph doing wheelies then getting off at 11th? I hate those calls, because we can rarely do anything about it.
  13. Good point, but I thought even someone with 7000+ posts could use a little time standing next to their motorcycle looking cool.
  14. It really wasn't that big of a deal. It may come as a surprise, but some drunk douche bag was crossing High St at 10th and was almost struck by multiple cars. He then ran into the side of our cruiser as we were approaching the intersection. He started running his mouth about us getting "the fuck out of the way". We pulled over to talk to him, and when we got out, he bolted. My partner went after him in the car, and I jogged across the Taco Bell parking lot. As I was crossing, someone on a motorcycle offered to chase him down on his bike. I thanked him, but I knew that the dude would run right to me if I went around the building. I would have had him if my partner hadn't pulled up to me with the beacons on. He had walked to within about 25 feet of me without seeing me before she pulled up. We were only planning on talking to him about his douchebaggieness, but when he ran, it became arrestable (not that we had planned on it). You win some and you lose some. Douche bag 1 us 0. To be honest, I don't mind losing those. I like to save my short bursts of lightning fast speed for really bad guys and my wife. Like I said before, I have always wondered how many OR were on the lot on a given weekend.
  15. Just out of curiosity, how many OR were at the Taco Bell at 10th and High on Saturday and watched me chase that little prick that took off from us? If you were there, you know what I am talking about. I have often wondered how many people from this forum hand out there.
  16. Sorry, I missed this earlier. There is no way in hell that he would not have been charged in Ohio. He went directly from having someone kick in his door and putting a gun in his face to a Life or Death struggle with 2 armed home invaders. He met all 3 prongs of the three prong test to justify deadly force: Method, Threat, and Opportunity. The Method was the gun, the Threat was pointing it at the victim, and the Opportunity was only needing to pull the trigger (mind you, all this happened inside his own home). He then grabbed the gun of the intruder who put a gun in his face (direct threat on his life). When he did that, the 2nd armed intruder began to strike him in the head with his gun (again, method, threat, and opportunity). Had he been able to disarm one of the suspects, he still could have justified killing both of them just by their actions, because the 2nd suspect is still armed and assaulting him. However, he didn't. Instead, he forced both out onto the porch where a 3rd armed suspect attempted to join the fight. It is now 3 to 1 in a LIFE OR DEATH struggle. He did exactly what he needed to do to preserve his life! This is a very cut and dry case of correctly using deadly force. I say that based only on the printing of the article at the start of the post. I don't know if there was more to this or not, but based on the article, it is cut and dry. The fact that his aim is off in a high pressure and rapidly evolving situation is irrelevant. Maybe more time at the range would have helped, but it is very difficult to train in a real life situation with someone trying to kill you while in the confines of a shooting range.
  17. I have always worn HJC for both street and dirt in the past. However, tried a friend's EXO 1000 on Saturday and I ended up ordering one of these for myself the same night.
  18. I don't see any "stupid" in my last sentence. 1. You DO alsways have the right to defend yourself. And 2. We DO live in a liberal-ass country.
  19. Hell no!!!! He was shooting at a 3rd suspect attempting to enter a gunfight in which 2 people were already attempting to kill him. It is very understandable that his aim was not accurate. However, had he not done it, it could have very easily gone from a home invasion robbery to a murder. You always have the right to defend yourself, even in what is rapidly becoming a "liberal-ass" country like we live in today.
  20. A friend of mine was a manager for Social Security and had an employee that jerked off at his desk every day for 3 years before before her superiors would let her fire him. I think this cat is in the clear! Got to love government jobs!!!!!!!!!
  21. What REALLY would have been funny, would be to have someone walk up and push his stupid ass off of the bike while he was standing there with his head down.
  22. We had Roadrunner back home and it SUCKED! I understand that the service is better down here in central Ohio, but you can get a better deal by far with WOW.
  23. Turns out that he was a good kid who had just started a paper route and was actually on his way to church for choir practice. I hate to see a criminal career cut short!
