  1. which one? i got the alpinestars because of its functionality, but i'm concerned because some reviews said it's really big.

I thought my wife bought it from Iron Pony, but she picked it up at Revzilla.com also. I looked up the pictures this morning (no tag inside) and it looks like it is a ZAN and was $12. I was looking for one with the smallest seam across the top of my head.

  2. is that similar to a balaclava? i've got one shipping from motorcycle-superstore now. if i plan to commute into november again, i don't want to suffer like last year...

and, pledge rocks. i get my seat really slippery too. it's easier to slide like a hardcore racer that i know i'm not...

I got a balaclava last year n it will keep you riding well into the cold weather. It keeps me toasty on the mornings there is frost on my bike when I leave work.

  3. Wife and I ride together on separate bikes, and I have been thinking it might be helpful to be able to communicate. I really don't want to spend $300 per bike for a comm setup. I see midland offers a Mic and headphones setup for their two way radios. We are never that far from each other less than a mile for sure usually way less. Does anybody have experience with the headset? We both wear modular helmets and already have the two way radios for on the four wheelers. I actually have a throat Mic setup for mine although I haven't used it. That would work on the bike I would think too.

    Any other suggestions?

I have never used that one. I have the G4 Scala Rider (which I only use for phone calls and music) and it is awesome. I picked it up as a single unit for $175 from revzilla.com. I believe their 2 helmet unit is $275 or $300. I have never heard the other end of a phone conversation, but my wife says it sounds great and is easy to understand. Also, it was a breeze to install.

  4. My question is why does all of the text following the red (a) section exist? It's a subset. It's covered.

I believe that what you are reading are all of the different ways to be guilty of a straight OVI. It specifies .08-.17%. Once you hit .171% you are guilty of "High Test" OVI. It is a separate charge. It increases your penalties and fines, as well as your steps up to mandatory minimum jail time. All of the crap about the blood serum and that type of stuff, I don't get because I am not a doctor and those tests are administered by a hospital. When the lab reports come back, the court enhances your charges.

  5. There's certainly the possibility a PD not properly training its officers to use the equipment properly or allowing the desk machine fall out of maintenance / certification. You can buy a $40 breathalyzer from Walgreens. There's obviously an issue with calibration with such machines, which is why they do FSTs (so I'd like to think).

OVI laws are nonsensical bullshit that makes you ashamed to be educated in Ohio. The precondition for an OVI is "operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drug of abuse... OR soandso .08% BAC or greater in so many words".

Clearly someone at .07% BAC is under the influence of alcohol. Why wouldn't they get hit with an OVI?

You could be legally impaired if you blow a .07% BAC does not take into account illegal drugs in your system. It is very common for someone to drink some alcohol while taking drugs. However, if the officer is paying attention to the HGN, he will know to ask you to submit to a urine or blood test instead of blood. They eyes give you away every time!

  6. Am I right in believing that the portable breath test can be refused without consequences as they are not as accurate as the big machines, but the big breath machine on the desk at the cop shop is trusted to be accurate and cannot be refused without consequences...?

PBT (portable breath test or road side breath test) are not admissible in court, but they do add to the probable cause for the arrest.

  7. How do you know that? You presume he HAD BEEN drinking' date=' because he declined the test, but that doesn't mean he was drunk. If the officer(s) don't witness him driving erratic, then how can they request he submit to a sobriety test? I've been pulled over on several occasions and have never been asked to blow.

I was pulled over one time, and the officer asked if I knew why he pulled me over.(lol.. like I'm going to say, "Yeah!! I was....")

Anyway, he said an off-duty officer witnessed me split a lane and tear ass from a stop light. He said since the he didn't witness it himself, he couldn't write me a ticket. I assume he wasn't lying to me, and his hands truly were tied.

Now, if that's the case, how can these officers ask this man to take a FST if they didn't witness any wrong-doing?[/quote']

Taking into account the totality of the circumstances, (caller who actually identifies themselves, odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about their person, and filed FST's) there is enough information to request a breath test. If he had actual injuries, he would have told the officer when he asked "do you have any injuries that would prevent you from standing on one leg". This is a standard question when administering FST's. If you fail the FST's, you have one final chance to prove your innocence, the breath test. If you refuse the FST's, your license is automatically suspended for 1 year. If you take it and fail, it is suspended for 90 days. So, if you truly were not drinking, you have nothing to lose by blowing. When you have been drinking, roll the dice and refuse if you're feeling lucky.

As a side note, Franklin Co. has "no refusal weekends" from time to time. This means that if you refuse a breath test, a search warrant is obtained by the officer from an on duty judge, requiring you to submit to a blood sample performed by a hospital. The best OVI attorney will tell you that he can always argue flaws in the breath process, but there is absolutely no arguing the blood.

  8. LOL at the fatty in the car who knows how to do it, she most definitely does not have guys pumping her gas

Unfortunately, she does have guys pump her gas in Jersey. It is illegal for you to pump your own gas in Jersey. Quote from gas attendant to my wife: "yous can't pump your gas in Joisey, we pumps yous gas in Joisey!"

  9. The house we just bought has a security system, but think it is a bit outdated. Was looking at ADT and like the idea as I am gone a lot with work and being out in the country, it would be nice to have - peace of mind I guess...

Anyone have a connection with such things? Anyone suggest something over ADT? They have some seriously competitive pricing and have a lot more options than the other guys seem to do and a low monthly payment.

    Discuss.

We have Sterling Protective Services and they are great. They are reasonable and their service has been top notch!

  10. http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2011/aug/14/motorcycle-crash-near-crew-stadium-kills-1-ar-685032/

Not much in the way of details - trying to picture this area and fiqure out what happened...

Sorry to see another one down. Thoughts and prayers to family and surviving injured.

Per witnesses, the sportbike was racing a Harley in the parking lot. The Harley rider apparently saw the pond at the last minute and lay his bike down sending it into the pond. They said the sportbike never hit the brakes and shot straight into the pond smashing his unprotected head on the rocks. Witnesses said he was going about 100 mph when he left the asphalt.

  11. Hey guys - I have a AAA Plus membership. I am picking up a bike on Tuesday and I'd like to not ride it home. It has a crap rear tire, a bad intake pipe and I don't have any gear. Will AAA tow a bike?

AAA requires a current registration and plate on the vehicle to tow it. If not, they won't touch it.

  12. Ive been around before, I just never got on the forum... now I have and pretty much blundered my way into the room!!! ...and yes I'll be sticking around!! (If im welcome after this!!)

You're only welcome to stay if you are able to do 1.85$ on 270 then stand on the pegs with your legs gripping the tank and flap your arms like some kind of injured chicken!;)

  13. It was written by a socialist, pledge that.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Bellamy

I'm missing your point. Just because it was written by someone with socialist views doesn't make it socialist. I don't think there is a person who would disagree with his desire to "champion (stand up for) the rights of the working class people". My comment about "my socialist state" was meant to be a joke. "My socialist state" exists within this democratic nation, as it should.

Any parent who has a democracy in their home is doing it wrong (in my opinion). Your children should not have a say in the rules of your home. As a parent, your job is to guide them toward adulthood via the rules that you have put in place.

  14. How is the value of the POA more important than the value of the First Amendment? Granted' date=' I would never encourage Isaac to not recite the POA. However, if he didn't feel like reciting it, or wasn't sure if he understood it completely, or.. GOD FORBID.. he decides he doesn't believe we are "One Nation, Under God"... then why on earth would I push that on him? I certainly don't want the State telling my son he has to repeat the words, "One Nation, Under God".. or any other child, for that matter.

Kids absolutely need to learn about the history of this most excellent nation... and they should do it by paying attention in Civics class. Teaching my child goose-step propaganda is not why I pay taxes to the state.[/quote']

I will whoop my kids azzez if they think they will ever "choose" not to say the pledge! When they are an adult, they will have the choice to not agree with "One Nation Under God". Until then, they live in my socialist state! I pay for everything, I make the rules. Hats off, stand tall, hand over your heart, look at the flag, and recite the pledge!

  15. EBC rocks. So does OEM. They all are great! EBC is norm $36 a side.. We now carry a new company called DP and they are making great strides to the sport. I can get you whatever you want FAST!

How are the DP clutch parts? Mine is starting to slip and I have seen that brand several times lately.

  16. well I live outside of town in a development where if anything happens they send a sheriff out, not a cop. I don't know if any of you have had to deal with a sheriff but they typically act like you are not worth their time and will take upwards of 3 hours sometimes to respond to suspicious activity that is not life threatening and by then they have made off with all the stolen stuff, at least thats how it is where I live. We, and by we I mean my neighbors and I, have called them several times but you are lucky if they show up. In fact, the guy who paid the kid $100 to scope out the place used to be a cop, that is saying something when a cop doesn't even trust the sheriff to do their job.

The problem is, everyone thinks their neighbor is a drug dealer. We get that call daily about 60% of the residents of my precinct, and the county deputies have a huge area to cover with very limited resources. So, I understand the slow response. They may have 4 deputies covering a 100+ square mile area at any given time. However, if you have seen property in his house that you know is stolen, you need to call. Burglars tend to move their items quickly because they don't want to get caught with them. If you wait, there is a good chance that he is going to move the items and by the time they get there the house will be clear. That is going to leave you in the position of bitching that the Sherriff's office didn't do shit to arrest someone that everyone in the neighborhood knows is burglarizing houses. When in reality, it is your lack of initiative/action that has allowed him to continue to victimize your friends and neighbors.

As a side note, I would be careful about what you discuss on a public forum (not saying it has happened). But if you discuss taking the law into your own hands, and you should happen to shoot/beat the life out of some turd who breaks into your house while defending your own life or the lives of family members, it tends to look premeditated. Just my $.02 worth.

  17. So 2 of my neighbors houses have been robbed in the past week or so and the general consensus of all the neighbors is that the kid who sells weed out of his house is the one doing it cuz he has been seen loading tv's and things into a van and taking them places and one of the people who was robbed paid a kid $100 to act like he wanted to buy weed from him so he could scope out his house and he saw stuff that had been stolen. They think he is addicted to crack or something so he is selling this stuff for a fix. Anyway, it has me thinking about what I should do if that ever happens to me, I have my gun loaded and under my bed just waiting for the fucker to break into my house or steal my bike but if it happens when no one is home, how do I file a claim with my insurance? Should I take pics of everything? Record serial numbers? What is important to record/take pics of? I have always thought my neighbor hood was pretty safe, I live on a cul-de-sac so I always thought someone would see this happening and stop to or call the cops but it has happened twice and no one saw anything. Any advice?

Record all serial numbers, model numbers, and descriptions of electronics and valuables. Take photos of all property and keep everything together in a safe place.

  18. showed up at Summit this weekend, and quickly realized that I was going to have to camp on the asphalt if I wanted to be in the "Main" paddock (jefferson circuit has grass though).

Anyway, I crashed in a friend's 6x12 enclosed trailer, and it was really convenient.

an enclosed trailer is not in my budget, nor would I want to spend a lot of money on one that is able to be towed by my wife's small SUV.

So, this got me thinking: Would it be super ghetto to build walls and a ceiling for my Harbor Freight 4x8?

my biggest concern is weight, but when all is said and done, I would essentially end up with a 4x4x8 box, and I'd just make a screen door (tent style) to leave one end open for ventilation. If it rains, I toss a tarp over the end and bugie cord it down so it won't blow away.

    dumb idea? super ghetto?

This seems like one of those things that works great in my head, but ends up heavy, cumbersome, and really shady looking when I'm done...

    thoughts?

my build cost would likely be around $100, so it's not a terribly expensive experiment. Storing 3 sheets of 4x8 plywood is my next concern, but they should lean against the garage wall easily enough...

Ghetto, no. Hillbilly, absolutely! Still a good idea though.

  19. I hate the looks from guys in no gear like I'm the asshole for being geared up in 90+ heat.

I was riding to work on Wednesday of this week. I was wearing my duty pants, boots, jacket, gloves, helmet and riding the FZR with full bags. I came across a rider my age (39) or a little older riding the opposite direction on a metric cruiser. He was wearing sunglasses, T-shirt (one of the really cool ones with the sleeves cut off and seam split almost all the way down the side), shorts, and fruit flops. I waved. He looked at me and shook his head.

I don't know if the issue was that I was riding a sport bike or that I was wearing my gear in the heat, but it made me want to flip around and go knock him off of his bike. However, I realized that if I did, I would be late for work, and that natural selection would eventually catch up with him anyway!
