  1. so when i drive in front of the grocery store and theres a stop sign every 5ft, i dont have to actually stop? (not that i do anyways, unless theres people trying to cross)

I stop if there is someone there or approaching the crosswalk. If not, I slow roll watching for someone coming. Our department does not take accident reports or issue tickets on private property unless it is a hit-skip or injury accident. There are tickets that can and do get written on private property, but for the most part it doesn't happen unless there are other circumstances.

  2. Are you classified as "military"?

    ci·vil·ian

       /sɪˈvɪlthinsp.pngyən/ dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show Spelled[si-vil-yuhthinsp.pngn] dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show IPA

noun 1. a person who is not on active duty with a military' date=' naval, police, or fire fighting organization.

    WIKIPEDIA's version

A civilian under international humanitarian law (also known as the laws of war) is a person who is not a member of his or her country's armed forces or other militia. Civilians are distinct from combatants. They are afforded a degree of legal protection from the effects of war and military occupation. The term "civilian" is also often used metaphorically to refer to people who are not members of a particular profession or occupation, especially by civilian law enforcement agencies, which often adopt rank structures emulating those of military units.

  3. I know that a police officer ha the authority to direct traffic, even against traffic signs. Accident scenes, etc.

But here's the situation. I work at a company that often hosts evens for members of the public. On these days the roads leading to the parking lot are busy. They usually have a security guard standing in the 4-way stop directing traffic (mostly to let visitors know where to go).

He will wave people to continue through the stop sign without stopping and will yell at you if you stop at the stop sign (as required by law).

So, take this is a legal thought experiment, not a "I don't know what to do" kind of thing...

If there is an accident as a result of one car being waved through the stop sign without stopping and another car that doesn't realize traffic is being directed... Who is at fault?

I believe that a civilian cannot override the stop sign and, just like when "someone waves you out", the ultimate responsibility to comply with traffic laws is on you. If you are waved through the stop sign and hit another car who was expecting you to stop, then YOU are at fault. The guy directing traffic is the reason for the accident, but not an excuse.

I looked this up several years ago, and I will need to do it again because I don't remember 100%. But I believe that the only civilian who can direct traffic legally is a (believe it or not) a school crossing guard.

  4. I wouldn't print anything or say anything more about it to anyone by doing that your just going to draw unnecessary attention to yourself and cause them to watch your every move. The terms of the lease are illegal so if they ever tried to evict you then you just fight it but unless that happens concealed means concealed and leave it at that.

This is exactly right. You have the ORC on your side. Don't draw attention to yourself. Once you do, if they want you out, they will find another part of your lease that you violated and throw you out for that. That way, they don't violate your rights.

  5. **Can't find the legal section for this to go in and it fits both legal and firearms. Move if needed.

OK so when I moved into my new apartment they had a CCW clause that limits where they are off limits office laundry room and any common area including hallways of the buildings. I'm fine with the office and laundry room but it makes it impossible for me to leave my apartment with my handgun. My only problem I have is that I live in an apartment building that has four apartments and the "common" area in the lease says hallways are a no carry zone or face eviction. My hallway is like ten feet from my door to the outside door. What I have a problem with is that they make it impossible for me to carry from my apartment to my vehicles and back to my apartment. I've spoken to some police officers and they said that their pretty sure that they can't do that as I have no other way of bring my handgun outside of my apartment. They way they want it transported is how ohio has it if you don't have a CCW.

I was told my the officer to contact the NRA and they might be able to help me I'm trying to find a local chapter that can do so as well asking OR. I've also been checking the Ohio tenant laws as well the ORC to see if this is legal. I know I signed a lease and am bound to some extent but this is the first I've ever herd of this. I even called the CCW Office and they told me to lawyer up. I need some help on this. Thanks

Piss on them! It's concealed, and they can't make you remove your clothes to prove that you do/don't have it on you. Ride out your year lease then move out!

  6. Ok so then when he removed the other two known criminals he should have let the driver state he had a chl instead of flipping out on him. Either way he was definitely playing the bad cop role in the video.

You are correct. He should have removed the people in question (back seat passenger minimum) then addressed the driver. He should have taked to the driver as if it was a regular traffic stop which would have given the driver a chance to inform the officer about his CCW permit. I don't know what had taken place earlier in the night. It may explain his actions, it may not.

  7. I still don't understand why they did not go to the drivers window when they walked up on the car? Why would they go to the back door first? they messed up on many accounts on this one. the officer should be fired...

Sorry, I missed this when it originally posted. The reason he didn't go to the driver first is because tactically you never turn your back to a threat. You always address the rear seat first. Once the officer is comfortable that there are no threats in the rear seat, they will address the driver. In this case, the officer had previous encounters with both the front and rear seat passengers and knew them to be criminals (rear-pimp, front-prostitute). Once the rear seat passenger was removed/detained the officer should have turned his attention back to the driver. The officer should have NEVER searched the vehicle with the driver still inside.

  8. There is a fine line between discipline and abuse. This was nowhere near that line. This shit head beat that child. I think what pisses me off almost more than the video is the fact that he is a judge that presides over child abuse cases. Assholes like this are the exact reason that I will never be able to work on our child abuse squad. I am positive that I would have beat the shit out of him after seeing a video like this and ended up being charged myself. Don't get me wrong, I spank my children as needed, but this was more than excessive.

The only thing preventing this douche bag from being charged is the statute of limitations. He is a disgrace to the criminal justice system and should be removed from the bench.

  9. Well' date=' it's exceptionally disrespectful.. to say the least. However, since Hell isn't a real place.. it'd be akin to saying they're going to spend eternity in Disneyland.

Once everyone decides to ignore these people, they'll start to fade away. Continuing to allow them to get your goat won't make them stop anytime soon.[/quote']

It's not a discussion I intend on having on a motorcycle forum, but heaven and he'll are very real places. I picture a long painful eternity in your future, and that makes me sad.

  10. Really? I work downtown, and that's where I get the best signal on AT&T.

Speaking of, with Verizon I often lost signal in buildings downtown and in basements of buildings (where most datacenters happen to be :( ). Not so on AT&T. And Nextel was so bad, CSCC had to install repeaters on campus just so the employees could use their work phones. FYI.

I left that area in July '10, and i understand they put a tower up (somewhere) just before. Their reception may have changed since then. It always drove me nuts though!

  11. I had AT&T then switched to Verizon. I hated AT&T because I worked in downtown Columbus and dropped every call at the intersection of Spring n High. The nail in the coffin was going to Old Man's cave and having everyone in my family have service except me.

  12. Look what I found....

Read this blog entry from a Coldwater Ohio HS Spanish teacher...

    http://blog.ohea.org/students-lose-with-sb-5/

Then "right click" on the picture she included of the old antiquated computers

she claims to be using' date=' click on "view image info" and you will see that the

picture is from a MEXICAN website... [url']http://www.jaltembasol.com

That doesn't seem very accurate now does it? When I visited the Coldwater school system's website

and browsed thru some of the pictures online I didn't see any of these old computers. What I did see were nice new laptops!

Shame on you Sophia Rodriguez. Oh, and in case you want to tell her she's

a bad liar here is her email address... RodrigS@cw.noacsc.org

I must be missing something. All I see are 3 computers that are off and one covered up. Even if it does have images from a Mexican web site, you did notice she is a Spanish teacher, correct? I don't know about you, but when I took Spanish 25teacher years ago, we had to do everything on Spanish. Including getting information from Spanish newspapers. My guess is someone was doing research. Don't think you solved the crime of the century. Good detective skills though, I hear they may still be looking for the kidnapper of the Lindberg baby. Happy hunting!

  13. Mike,

I lived in NYC for 4 years and never witnessed this 'muslim pride' parade. I am assuming you have a link to some evidence of this? Also, I would appreciate a link to the 'continually block streets in NYC for their morning prayer' item. I lived across the street from the largest mosque in NYC for awhile and just wondered where you got your info as it is certainly WRONG and inflammatory. Thanks!!

I don't want to sound like a dick, but you may want to check your facts before you spout off. If you go to muslimdayparade.com you will see that they in fact do have an annual muslim pride parade in NYC. If you click on the link in blue titled Council On American Islamic Relations, New York, you will see that in 2009 they actually held their 24th annual muslim pride parade. All it took was a google search "muslim pride parade nyc" to get the link.

If you go to hoax-slayer.com/muslim-fridays-new-york.shtml you will find that indeed they do take over Madison Ave. in NYC for prayer. However, it is only during the Muslim Pride Parade which has been held annually since 1985.

  14. I know you don't wanna do Columbus (CPD), but it looks like the fall Civil Service test opens up 7 October, runs through 28 October.

Can't hurt to take the test - probably have to for sheriff, local popo anyway (don't know, guessing). I think vets get extra credit.

Link to Columbus Police "recruiting events" page (click)

PS: If you do hire on at CPD, be advised you'll need to put on at least a hundred pounds or so.... With all due respect to FZRMatt... :D

Why does it have to be like that?! Oh hell, who am I kidding? Bulk up boy!
