  1. Tonik-I bought a rifle sling from Amazon's site.  Now it was the same as an older sling I have on my muzzle loader.  When I got it the sling was a piece of crap.  The finish was terrible, the edges had not been trimmed right so it wouldn't operate correctly.  So I contacted Amazon's customer service and they refunded my money and said they would deal with the supplier the sling came from.

    Maybe give that a try.....

  2. Running plates is not illegal or an intrusion on your rights.  Operating a mc without a proper endorsement is illegal.  I am one of the worst at dealing with someone stepping on my rights, but I see no issue with the way this LEO handled the situation.  Some states and jurisdictions are known for doing just this as well as doing inspection lanes where they often catch a lot of bikers without endorsemtents.

Be legal and its no biggie.

  3. Actually I have heard that if someone wants your bike, even if it weighs as much as the big baggers, 4 guys can pick one right up and load it on a flatbed by take 2 boards and slding them through, one through the rear wheel, the other through under the neck, then just pick it up.  But that mercury switch trick sounds like it would thwart that.  That's a great idea.

I just run a hardened padlock though the holes in my disc and tether the frame to something substantial when and if I can using a coated cable.

But if someone wants it bad enough, they're going to take it..

  4. Back in the 80's I rode my Kaw 750 twin and my buddy was a long time HD man.  He was a wrench and always kept his bikes in tip top running shape,  But he could never get any of his Harley's to be as fast as my 750 twin was.  And it's like a snail compared to today's sportbikes.  My glide is fast, but then there's 'fast'..........like a few of what most here ride.

I don't ride to be the fastest, I ride to ride.  We all like to get fast, but no way can a street Harley ever compete with sport bikes.  Not happenin

  5. Awesome pics SW!  You too Bubba!  Back in the day one of my fav bands was Steppenwolf and ol John McKay....so your name has always caused me to remember some of those days.  And trains....I've always loved them.  My grandpa was a long timer on the CB &Q down in Ill and Mo......he's gone now....but he started on the rr when he was 15 and retired at 73.  Since then they have always fascinated me.

Hate to hear of someone having issues with their 'wheels'....the human type.  Hope your surgeries all go well and your back at 'em before too awful long.  I'm up in Circleville, a couple hours north of the bridge going over to Ky.  If you ever need a riding partner....or anything else for that matter,  let me know.

  6. I use the cheap foam plugs.  I can still hear my cardo but the plugs  still seem to eliminate the wind and road noise.  Weird, but effective for me.  When I worked at Clark Equipt back in the 70's they made their employees molded ear plugs, and they were great.    But over time I guess our body changes and now, they do not fit.  LIke someone said, you can buy a lot of the foam style for what a pair of molded ones cost and the foam ones are effective.

  7. Riding the Rockies makes the Smokeys seem like nothing but a few small hills.  Wyoming is outstanding as is Colorado, imho.  I want to ride out to Idaho this summer but time and money look to be a bit scarce for that.  We took 16 days, out to Salt Lake City and back, all 2 lanes.  It leaves you wanting for more.....

Too many roads and not enough time to ride them all..........

  8. The house being wired in '74 should have no bearing on whether it needs a re-wire or not.  I do know that even today here in some locales in Ohio there are no codes required, so that might be the case where the house is located when it was built.  But the NEC requirements in '74 were and are still considered to be safe.  One thing that might need attention is the size of the service.  Back then a 100A service was required, but in today's world, that is not sufficient when you figure all the crap we now use....lol.  So you might need to up your service to a 200A.

  9. We are planning a trip down there in late June and ran across a post about nc209 that runs into Hotsprings NC.  The guy said it was as good or better than the Dragon.  I checked it out on the map and it does look promising.

Just thought I'd pass that on.

  10. I know lots of people who have used Riders (including myself for my last cbr) but I don't know a single person that has a first hand account of how they deal with a claim so for now the VFR stays with Allstate

This was going to be my question-how do they rate handling claims.

  11. LOL, traditional??  Not much traditional anymore concerning most muzzleloaders, although some still do it that way.  Mine was a big upgrade, but now look at yours.  Even more improvements.  Still nothing like taking that shot and waiting til the smoke clears to see wtf.....lol

btw, how did the shooting go?

  12. I usually check my tire pressure in the summer.  I never set it at the max, usually  a few pounds under, but never more than 5.  Since pressure increases about a pound for every ten degrees of outside temp increase, when things warms up I check them again and readjust.  I also check pressure if I am going to haul anything really heavy and do so based on current temps.  Since I always buy tires sized properly for the car or pickup, I do not worry about what the door panel recommends for tire pressures.  I have always felt the tire manufacturer knows better what is best for their tire.  So far so good....
