Experience w/ Midwest Cafe Racing Association

Sorry to derail your conversation but... The forecast down here is for the "R" word this weekend. So be careful at Putnam, the surface is slicker than pig guts when it gets damp. If your used to the wet traction at NL and Beaver Putnam is way less. Its great fun dry though. Also, be aware that turn 4 is off camber, a lot of people don't realize that until it is too late so make sure the left side of your tires are warm before you try to rail it. Last peice of advice be careful through turn 10, it is the only place without ample run-off and the guardrail looks unforgiving. Next, would you post back what you think of the new facilities? Putty is my closest track and I love going there. I would like to know how the improvements are and if they are worth the price spike ($155 to $180). Last time I was there the restrooms were only a little better than NL, no garages, viewing sucked and no camping. At $155 the track was a great bang for your buck. Now that it is $180 I have to reconsider Mid-O. -
Its a perfect bike thing, cruiser and sportbike riders just don't understand.

I'm cash money to split a garage on Sunday if the offer is still out. I'm signed up for Novice on Sunday.
-
My "prenup" consisted of one statement. "Never ask me to sell my bike." No joke, you may plagiarize.

Similar to Revelstoker I am trying to decide if I should ride Novice or Intermediate. I've run about 10 track days. Usually, I run Novice in NESBA (RIP for me) and am in the top 25% but have never ridden Mid-O. What I don't want is to be stuck in an all day parade like Moto Series or STT Novice groups. I also don't want to get in over my head. Can someone breakdown how Novice and Intermediate works/rules at Mid-O? Their website doesn't provide a group breakdown.

Prayers out Grapes. Sorry to hear about this.

Good try but I don't buy beer for men with pet ferrets! -

Damn, I was going to leave work to watch the races tomorrow until I found out it is only on Speed 2! Anyone know of a site that I can stream the races from? -
Water Wetter vs. Ethylene Glycol vs. Poly Glycol

Do you run Moto Series? Their prep instructions are Water Wetter only. Wondering if they can tell the difference or if they care. I like the idea of premixed, its easier if you need to top off later down the road (read at the track). -
Water Wetter vs. Ethylene Glycol vs. Poly Glycol

Next question, de-ionized water vs. distilled water: What is the cost difference? Can you get it at the grocery store? Is it that much better? -
Water Wetter vs. Ethylene Glycol vs. Poly Glycol
rubbersidedown replied to rubbersidedown's topic in Track is Crack
That is a great PDF! Thanks I see that Propylene Glycol is even more slippery on the track than Ethylene Glycol. The BIG reason some orgs dont allow it. Interesting that some still do. Clean up the other BIG reason Propylene Glycol is disallowed. I disagree with needing to change every year. Manufactures recommend a three year change, mostly to replenish the corrosion inhibitors. The Water Wetter recommends a 15,000 mile maintenance. Most riders will not reach that in one year. -
I'm looking to step up to the next level this year, Intermediate and Open groups. To do so I need to change my coolant in order to tech so I'd like to get some insight about my choices. Ethylene Glycol is slippery and that makes is bad for tracks. I R that smart! But what is the deal with Poly Glycol? Is it also slippery on tracks? I image not since some orgs permit it, so why don't all allow it? It also offers some freeze protection and claims to significantly lower running temps so it would be my coolant of choice since winter draining would not be a requirement. Then there is Water Wetter. Accepted at all orgs but no freeze protection. Does it lower running temps? Does it protect from corrosion? Can you answer questions about these products?

What visor are you using, a smoked visor or a colored visor? It sounds like you are using a blue one. The colored visors are not intended to shade your eyes, they are meant to enhance definition. That is why shooters often wear yellow shooting glasses.
-
Both of these events are on my calendar! Can you explain the "ice skating rinks"? Morning dew? Putnam is terrible slippery in the rain but I never noticed the first session being bad.

I love track days! I live in Cincinnati and every year I like to try a new track. This year I plan on hitting Mid-Ohio and either Grattan or Gingerman. Any advice on these tracks and which would be better of the "G's"?

I've been riding with the EXO-1000 for about 4 years.
-
Are you kidding me? My EXO-1000 flip down visor is the best thing since sliced bread, here is why. Those of you with 20/20 vision may not understand as well as those of us who wear glasses. First, since I do wear glasses it is nice not to have to fumble with a clip on device to shield my eyes. Second, it is fast to use. When riding under a canopy of trees and you pop out into direct sunlight (the Dragon) it is quick to use. Faster than transitions, sunglasses or changing visors. Third, way better than carrying an extra shield. Transitions? Great idea but the transition is S-L-O-W! It takes "transition". No good if your ride takes you through a long tunnel.

No it isn't a percussion cap, it has a firing pin. It is designed for the shell to have a black powder instead of "smokeless" powder.

Recon, Thanks for the help, this is what I’ve been able to find out from the sites you found. It is a Belgian made gun as indicated by the proof marks that I found, the letters "ELG" in an oval with the star below the letters and a crown above. (I found the proofs because one of the sites you sent told me where to find them.) The proof indicates that it was a black power gun manufactured between 1880 and 1914. International Arms seems to be a trade brand name, manufactured as “hardware guns”. I cannot find the link between International Arms and Crescent Firearms or InterArms which would close this circle. I also found the Trade Mark “MD” the manufacturer using this trademark is listed as “Unknown”. That can’t be good for value. Summary is, it doesn’t seem to be worth much and it isn’t safe to shoot.
