  1. How soon do you need this done? I was planning on getting a setup to blast some parts on the bike, just not quite yet. Maybe in a month or two?
  2. Brimms in Kenton has always taken care of me - they'll pop up on Car-part...
  3. ... and as I contemplate, I'm seriously considering swapping the entire rear end from an XS750 on - it would give me the twin shocks instead of monoshock, much more cafe. Plus, the spot in the frame where the shock lives now would be great for the battery. I need to find out if the swingarm will fit... *sigh*
  4. Well, the wheel saga continues. Hopefully this is the last of them, I'm running out of money to blow on more wheels . Got the XS750 rear wheel in the mail yesterday and spent some time in the garage today: How the bike sat this morning - all the fun late model stuff stripped off and ready for sale. The wheels - XJ1100 16" wheel on the bike now, 18" XS750 wheel on the ground ready to go. Swap the rotor over. Initial installation. Looks good from the side, but... The new wheel is narrower than both the XJ1100 and the stock Virago wheel by about 8mm. And it looks like it might be offset to the left slightly... Very unscientific check shows it's off by about 5mm. Ugh. Mocked up with the brake brackets. At the very least, I'll need to machine the brackets to accept the new wheel (in place of a spacer), but I'm thinking I need to install a spacer on the other side for the wheel to be centered up. This is becoming more of a pain in the butt than I originally thought, but I like the look of the wheel. Oh well, the spacers really shouldn't be as bad to make as it sounds. Just another project to work on. The saga continues... To make it worse, the rear wheel came with an axle, but the ONE spacer I needed was all f-d up. Lovely. I hate to get another axle - I already have an XJ1100 one I don't need and this XS750 one that's no good. Grrr...
  5. I just watch the commercials, brother.
  6. I'd tell you to grow a pair if MY wife would lt me use that phrase around the house...
  7. No on Issue 2. Unless you don't think we need police, firefighters and teachers. Also, it opens the door for all other collective bargaining, and being a union member, this doesn't sit well with me. Cut the bureaucracy, not the front line.
  8. Columbus drivers are just generally mystified by the rain...
  9. I think (like a lot of others) that if you don't want the bike riden, just tell the guy and plan on taking the entire trip. But I could see advantages to having the bike riden 100 miles in terms of reliability.
  10. I like the map of Europe. Nicel done, sir. Nicely done.
  11. Of course I will! I'm really thinking just a stock swap is the way to go. Pros outweigh the Cons.
  12. That's really clean for a 97 Mark. Usually they're pretty hosed by now. Good find... little old lady's Sunday car?
  13. Well, guys, kind of at another turning point in the Virago project. I am considering swapping a larger motor into the Virago. All Gen 1 and Gen 2 motors are more or less interchangable, with very minor issues (using mount from bike instead of mount from motor), and the early Gen 2 stuff is compatable to the point that you can use the Gen 1 electrics if you swap them in - stock harness, etc. That being said, I have a 750cc engine in there now I had planned on freshening. Stock 50hp, single carb set up should add 1 or 2 more. I'm considering going to a 1000cc engine, available in early Gen 2 (84-85 only) and freshening it. Stock 68hp, single carb set up should make it 70 even. There are also people out there using 1000cc guts with 750 heads machined for bigger valves) and hot cams making near 100hp. Not saying I'd want to do that, but if I did, I'd already have the parts to do it. Apparantly the 750 heads have a higher compression ration when used with the 1000 engine (~8:1 vs 10:1). Here's my though process: PROS: There's no replacement for displacement. Even bone stock, I'm adding ~20hp with no change in weight or size. Also in 84 the went to a different starter design. 81-83 Viragos had starter issues.. still do, I guess. Just a poor design. Also, if I do come into some lottery money and decide to sink a grand or more into the motor in machining and cams, I have the capacity to build a pretty hot motor. Plus the motor looks a little more racey. CONS: I already have the 750cc motor, and it bolts in right now. Parts for the 750 are slightly less expensive (15%ish). Talk me through this one...
  14. Anyone here interested? I've got a couple of days off coming up, this will probably go on eBay then.
  15. Well, new wheels are ordered. As a bonus, I got the front rotors with the front wheel. 18" rear, 19" front. Rear should be here tomorrow so I can get the rear end mocked up again with the new wheel.
  16. You may have to use an EZout on the stock bolt to get the bar end bolt out, then use another bolt and some plyers to pull everything out. You'd have to take apart your front end to get the clip on off.
  17. Hey guys, I spent two years recycling cars, so I'm kind of ashamed to even ask this - where to people take scrap aluminum in Columbus to get some cash? I have some wheels that will probably be easier to scrap than to mess around on eBay with. I know of Ace Iron & Metal on Groveport Road, but to call them crooks would be giving them too much credit. I dealt with IHS a good deal when I was working salvage - I think they have a location on Joyce Avenue and I know they have one on Parsons Avenue. Thoughs? I have like four Virgago/XJ wheels and a bent TLR wheel, total weight I'd think is 60+ pounds. I used to get $15 a wheel salvage for car wheels... it's been years since I've pinged scrap prices though.
