  1. So Bill, where ya going to meet up with us? I'm cool with doing that Sunday ride...when I was down there on my Z1000, I know after 6 hours I was very uncomfortable (damn seats) and just mentally tired which is not a good combo. I should be better on the Tenere...I'm just not used to doing 6+ hour rides but if I'm making the trip down I'm all for making the most of it.
  2. Was parsing your routes...that Sunday route is long 8.5 hours not counting stops. I hope my new seat works out better for me. What day is everyone else planning on returning? I have thoughts of riding the BRP all the way to Roanoke...never been much past the Pisgah Inn on the north end.
  3. The hate was never knocked outta ya
  4. In one aspect anyway according to Consumer Reports... http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/04/who-makes-the-most-reliable-motorcycle/index.htm Can-am and BMW are brutal - 40%+ failure rate
  5. Trying to plan routes and upload them into the Garmin 660LM is a effing PITA. Supposedly basecamp doesn't play nice with these (routes often give an error message on device) and mapsource is shit software. I've managed to create routes in Google maps before and import them to the GPS but it took me forever to get it right and I forget how I did it now. The KML files always want to import as tracks, not routes, which sucks ass. /rant
  6. Sorry to hear...my condolences.
  7. Sounds good... the .38 doesn't help if you are sleeping and they jack your bike.
  8. One other thing...I'm buying a disk lock for my bike (I don't currently own one). Might be a good idea to bring one or similar security device (not sure about the cabin but thieves are known to scope out hotels in the gap area).
  9. OK, started the planning. Going to leave my house about 4pm on Friday 10/9 and go to Jellico (~3hrs) and stay the night there. Then get up in the morning and head to Robbinsville (2.5 hrs). Will work on the routes for the other days this eve. Jim, what time to you plan to hit Cafe Rel on Sat? Can we update the OP with the people confirmed going? I'm going to PM you guys with my cell # and email address so you can reach me on the road. If you text me, I can answer via Siri when I'm riding (or at least try). Also, if anyone wants to join me on the ride down on Friday, let me know. I'll be working from home on that day so if you want to come down earlier in the day and meet me at my house, you are welcome to do so.
  10. somehow that makes me feel better about leaving it in neutral.
  11. I'm going to make a run to IP in the morning (early, prolly get there at open) if anyone else is around to say hey. Looking for a rain jacket for the gap trip. Since I don't have one, if it's raining in the AM, I'll be caging it.
  12. I put it in neutral at a a light only after traffic behind me has come to a stop and I know I'm going to be sitting for a bit (i.e. it's not about to change green). I want to be able to get outta dodge RIGHT NOW if the asshat behind me is looking at their phone and about to run up my ass like George Michael on spanish fly. The only exception is if I just went through a lot of stop and go traffic and my hand is tired from all the clutch play. The S10 has a pretty stout clutch spring and it wears on you if you are stop and go a lot.
  13. Sounds pretty easy for someone with the right knowledge. It's been too long since I've done any SQL work of any substance...hell, now that I've changed roles outside of IT, I rarely even have to write join queries anymore.
  14. That's only on a full moon in a month that ends in "r"
  15. I always put the bike in neutral before shutting off. Anytime I've killed it with the side stand was accidental.
  16. I use the key...mainly so I don't forget to remove it.
  17. Ha...I think I heard about him being that way and I've seen the Ferrari. That Asian waitress has been there forever too...she's no nonsense as well. I'm going to sit down and look at routes etc this weekend (if not before) and figure out what I'm going to do. My wife leaves town for 2 weeks tomorrow so I may be busy with the strippers. I also may have to go to Boston for work at some point the week of Oct 5th so that may throw a wrench into trying to leave Friday after work depending on when I have to go and how much backlog it causes me.
  18. Not sure how long these have been out but I saw a small write up about it in a motorcycle magazine. I didn't know they existed. I ordered one and it arrived yesterday - works great. If you have a pigtail already attached to your battery, it takes just a few seconds to check it. I have an ATV that doesn’t get used much and I keep it on a tender but I know the battery is aging so it’s a good tool to check it and make sure it’s still holding a good charge. They are like $15 on Amazon and totally worth it IMO. Note that they are not to be used on Lithium batteries which are all the rage with you kids these days. http://www.batterytender.com/Accessories/Digital-Voltage-Indicator-with-LCD-Display.html
