It's illegal to sell motorcycles on Sundays in Missouri??
JackFlash replied to Casper's topic in Daily Ride
It's possible they wanted to minimize the likelyhood of a person popping one open while driving home from the store. . -
Man ruins stepfather’s motorcycle ‘in rage’ after getting Xbox shut off
JackFlash replied to Casper's topic in Daily Ride
>> ...“then flooded his Maxima into the motorcycle, pushing it into the garage and all the way into the wall of the garage.” It's my guess that they meant "flooring" the gas pedal. . -
It looks like the bike is spoken for. I'm having 2nd thoughts about an FZ6R being a sufficent step up from my GS 500F, for the amount I'm willing to spend. .

Motorcycle Dealer's Cost vs MSRP on a new bike. Advice?
JackFlash replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
I was reading about that last night, that torque is more important than horsepower, on the street. Do you mean the torque should be more linear, or do you mean that peak torque is best when it stretches over a wide rpm range? . -
Motorcycle Dealer's Cost vs MSRP on a new bike. Advice?

That SV 650S is probably a good choice. I don't think I've ever seen one on the road, and I would like a bike not more than three years old. As for the FZ09, there no wind protection there, and it's a lot colder at five o'clock a.m. when I'm headed to work. I was expecting to spend in the range of $6k. That's about what I'm comfortable with, for my next bike. I hope it gets me something that keeps me smiling. . . -
Motorcycle Dealer's Cost vs MSRP on a new bike. Advice?
JackFlash replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
This brings us to another question. My bike has 47 hp (34.3 kW) at 9200 rpm and 29.5 ft·lbf (40.0 N·m) at 7400 rpm of torque. What is considered a reasonable upgrade in terms of power and speed? I don't want to purchase something that I'll be disappointed with, and I also don't want to purchase a monster that is so far over my head that I'll only use 1/4 of the available throttle. How much of an increase in torque (percentage) and/ or increase in horsepower is considered to be a prudent upgrade without overdoing it, considering I like to ride briskly but have not yet been able to do any track days? I'm inclined to a sporty/sport touring type of bike, and don't want to be leaning forward on my arms very much. . -
A long summer day for this ride would be a possibility for me. Eighty-eight miles to Massillon from Newark. If I could gather a following for the trip up, it could be a nice day's event. Maybe later in the season we can do something like this. .

Motorcycle Dealer's Cost vs MSRP on a new bike. Advice?
JackFlash replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
I stopped down there last week. They currently have two blue FZ6Rs. They offered me one for $6500. That's the dealer I'm comparing prices with. They didn't say that was the "out the door" price, so I'm not assuming it is. It seems, from the Indiana dealership, the tax and all will add another $1000. . -
Motorcycle Dealer's Cost vs MSRP on a new bike. Advice?
JackFlash replied to JackFlash's topic in Daily Ride
This is a perfect example of the kind of deal I would like to make. It seems that people buy a bike, thinking they are going to enjoy being a motorcyclist, find out they have demands on their time or they don't like the sport to the extent they thought they might, and the bike ends up dusty and covered with crap in the darkest back corner of the garage. Before it gets all banged up, or ages into dry rotted tires, I would like to be the one lucky enough to brag about what a good deal I was able to get. . -

You're not cheap, my brother. You're just a frugal Mexitalian bargin shopper. And there's nothing wrong with that. This is the kind of deal I would like to get, a lightly used bike with very low miles and a highly discounted price, that someone would like to get out of their garage, because their ol' lady is nagging the crap out of them, because it is taking up floor space that she wants to use for some of her worthless crap. Depreciation is the reason I was thinking I would get a used bike. I would rather someone else pay for that. I can use that money for *farkles and such. Even a 2011 at the right size, price, and mileage would be up my alley. * F.ancy A.ccessory R.eally K.ool & L.ikely E.xpensive . -
Well, it's getting close to the time for me to start thinking about an upgrade to a larger bike. I'm starting the third season of riding my little GS 500F. Now, with some miles behind me, I think I'm about ready to move up to FZ6R. The new FZ6Rs list for around $7800, but I've seen them for much less. I was considering getting a used bike, but if I can get a good deal on a new one, I may find it makes more sense to buy new. What I was told is: "The sale price is $5290, with the tax, freight&prep, and documentation the out the door total is $6291.16." This is a new 2013 Yamaha FZ6R. It's a five hour drive to the dealership, north of Indy. I can buy one locally for $6500 plus tax and all that. But, if "tax and all that" adds another $1000 to the price, that's not as good of a deal as taking a drive to pick one up. Give me some advice. Tell me how to get the best deal. What would you do? .

I'm waiting on a few good rain storms to wash the crap off the roads, and to do a little bike maintenance, first. But, I'll be down that way plenty, this year. .

I want a headset that will let me talk to other bikes, talk privately to a passenger, listen to the radio/MP3 player, use CB radio, hear radar detector, and place and accept phone calls. Is all this even possible? I forgot about GPS, also. .

My HJC has the Pinlock insert. I've had mild fogging until I get moving and get some airflow through the helmet. The inserts come in different tints. I got a clear with the helmet and bought a dark tint for riding into the sun. That doesn't work so well. There was a lot of glare and it wasn't like wearing sunglasses, like I thought it would be. I use Bugslide on my helmet and plastics. Possibly the glare was from that. I also lost a pin from my helmet but an extra one came with it. I looked up pinlock, online, and gave them a call. They sent me some extras just in case I lost another one. Make sure the pins are locked all the way on. .

My (future) uncle's journey on the Appalachian trail
JackFlash replied to Gixxus Christ!'s topic in Dumpster
I hope he started out in Georgia, or he is going to be caught up in or held up by weather. Northbound—Georgia to Maine Most thru-hikers start their trips in early March or April at Springer Mountain in Georgia and finish at Katahdin in September. Starting at Springer in March guarantees hiking in winter conditions for much of the first several weeks and also guarantees a crowd of fellow northbounders —approximately 1500 start out each year, most within a six-week period. http://www.appalachiantrail.org/hiking/thru-section-hiking/when-where-to-start . -

That was a fun book to read. >> November 2013 - Nick Nolte will costar as Katz, and Larry Charles (of Borat and Bruno) is now attached as Director. The screenplay is being written by Michael Arndt, and shooting is scheduled to begin in March 2014. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Walk_in_the_Woods . -
