I figure the Cruze I have in my bay now will be a while before I can fix it. Didn’t know if it needed pistons or a complete engine until I tore it down. It needs pistons, couldn’t drive it the way it was anyway, but now I have a big paper weight to deal with until my parts department can find everything needed to put it together.
-
Anyway, triple post bitches. Doesn’t look like there’s any end in sight for this strike right now. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.
-
You are officially more annoying then Kerry, who at least tries to speak to his point. Not post retarded ass bullshit just to clutter a thread. I should’ve expected no less. I thought maybe you had some extreme offensive view that would piss everyone off, but alas you failed.
-
Not sure why I read Kerry’s last post, but I agree with most of it. Scary huh? I didn’t quote it because this thread is now full of worthless bullshit thanks to ShowHBK. Think I’m going to go on a deletion spree.

Good show Rick

Seeing as how you paid a shop you should take it back. If I had done it in my own truck I’d just live with it, it won’t hurt anything. Matter of fact my last S10 did that. It’s just some extra clearance. One of the benefits to an internal slave on newer stuff, they have a spring to hold the throwout bearing against the clutch.

Real men don’t go to starbucks.
-
Thanks for helping me practice my scrolling ShowHBK. I can just picture you in a cubicle laughing quietly to yourself because you think it would be cool to be Geeto. Well you are successfully his nutswinger, congratulations.
-
Well you’re already failing at this. A real man wouldn’t care where it was posted.
-
Ok tough guy, have at it.

Hilarious. First of all I still make time on 90% of the jobs I do. Second, I don’t bitch about everything, and all you’re doing with that statement is being a hypocrite. Third I’m good at my job and have no reason to do something else. And lastly, I’m 38 not 40+. Do you have any close friends who run their own business? That isn’t for me, maybe it’s for you, but I’d rather enjoy my life outside of work hours and not invest countless hours making a business run. I’m perfectly content staying on top of the latest and greatest GM products, and letting others worry about the rest. Maybe you need to go down that road before you can appreciate my point of view but I don’t need it.
-
Shut the fuck up. Geeto makes better arguments then you. GM cutting warranty times doesn’t have anything directly related to the UAW strike. Go back to bitching about the little independent shop you work at giving you junk to work on, and how hard it is to make money. For fucks sake.
-
One very common issue on Corvettes is shitty grounds. They are all over the car but typically need to clean them. There are 3 that I would look at first but they are behind the rear fascia. Could always be something else. Have him tow it over to Tobin I’ll fix it.
-
Yeah saw that yesterday. No wonder nobody wants to fix cars anymore, dumbasses making them earn more money and I have to make less on their goddamn warranty repairs. Has not been a good time being a GM Tech lately.
-
Ok, let’s pose a hypothetical idea. Let’s say the UAW and GM parted ways and GM had to continue business as a non-union manufacturer. How long do you think it would take for GM to end up providing good pay and benefits to their employees (I mean assembly line employees) just so that they were competitive with similar jobs at other companies? I mean people can go to Honda and make a decent living, why would GM be able to stay fully staffed with people who can get the job done unless they paid a good wage? I bet people would have a good job with decent pay and benefits, and people would be more inclined to do a good job without their union safety net. So....
-
This is all well and good for those who have it. For the people outside looking in, and the non-union people they have to deal with it’s pretty lame. Ultimately I don’t think either side is sustainable. I feel it’s likely going to be GM getting around the UAW by manufacturing elsewhere. Meanwhile nothing is going to be very good in the short term.
-
“They want job security”, well no shit, everybody wants job security. GM is supposed to keep plants open when the product made it that plant doesn’t sell? I’m that makes sense. “They all want paid the same”, yeah okay, they want the same $30-40 and hour as the tier 1 employees, they also want 97% of their healthcare covered. These things are all way above national averages and is fucking ridiculous. Whoever above me said they are in the elevator union, makes a good point, these type construction/service unions aren’t nearly as bad because people don’t have to use them. GM on the other hand is bound to use the UAW to produce cars in this country, this is more what I am referring to. Geeto- you honestly think unions are necessary today? Labor laws that were non-existent when unions first formed, and modern society where killing people is not tolerated on any level are what make unions the relic. Modern unions are a leftover leach on society, making it easy for people to be complacent and lazy, you want to earn good money use your fucking head, get educated, find better things to do then just bolt cars together. Unions are too similar to socialism for me, so again I say fuck them.
-
It sounds like the union wants an awful lot. They already get great pay, and great benefits, and these people think they deserve so much more. Most of them simply bolt cars together. People wonder why these companies want to build shit outside of the US. This type of union greed will either bankrupt GM or cause them to keep moving manufacturing outside of the United States and Canada. It’s fucking stupid, meanwhile my peers and I aren’t getting work done because of this shit. These union workers make the cars that I have to fix and they get more then I do, how is that fair? Fuck them, fuck them all, move their goddamn jobs to China that’ll do them alot of good. :dumb:
-
I’ll just put it out there, fuck unions. Yeah I said it. Stupid bastards are fucking up the lives of many normal people who have nothing to do with their godamn union. As a public service announcement if anyone needs GM parts or warranty work done you’d better get into a dealership NOW. Parts supplies are getting low and GM’s warehouses aren’t shipping stock orders to dealers. Warehouse managers are shipping some stuff FedEx but that’s not working worth a fuck. The longer this goes on the worse it’ll be, they’re already over a week behind, and we’ve been told that once an agreement has been made the workers will not go back to work until all the paperwork has been done.
-
Most dealerships are on a “matrix” rate. Say the first hour is $107 (what they advertise) and goes up from there, second hour $130 something, third hour is higher still. Capitalizing on people’s inability to do math or pay attention. Biggest ripoff going.

Despite what anyone says when it comes right down to it people want to feel like they are getting a deal. For most who don’t understand the automotive repair business nothing sounds like a good deal especially when they have never been a repeat customer anywhere so they have never found someone to trust. Then you throw in the abundance of fuckwit parts hangers ruining most people’s trust in finding someone who can fix their car at all, and I don’t think it has to do with money at all. It’s all about having a good business relationship with your customers. If you can fix their issues and show them how you’re being fair with them everybody wins. If they’re trying to be as cheap as possible they’re doomed from the moment they walk in with that attitude. The Service Advisor makes or breaks the whole shop when it comes to automotive repair. They get good information out of the customer so the tech can have a good shot at fixing the car correctly. They discuss options with the customer honestly and don’t make them feel taken advantage of, but most importantly (to me) they do what’s fair for the technician so he can keep his sanity and not worry about how he’s getting fucked. It’s also worth mentioning that the technician needs to be fair in return. This is where most guys get lost. I watch every day when one of my coworkers doesn’t get an extra 2 tenths of an hour, or they think they deserve 2 or 3 hours of diag time because it took them over an hour to isolate a wiring issue. I don’t care about these things. If you can’t focus on fixing the car and trust that you’re going get paid then find another shop. If you’re constantly asking for extra diag time then you need to work on your skills. Basically all I do every day is diagnose driveablilty and electrical problems and it’s rare that it takes longer then an hour, and when it does take longer after that first hour I can tell my advisor where in the car the issue is and what it will take to isolate it. I have little respect for most other technician’s skills, and they have no idea why, they won’t train, they won’t acquire the right tools for the job, and they generally don’t take the job serious, thus making those who do look bad. It’s sad that there is such a shortage of mechanics that these people are almost guaranteed a job even though they suck, add in an inexperienced service advisor who buys into one of these so called technician’s bullshit and a customer walking into that shop is doomed no matter what. I’m not perfect, far from it, but I take the job seriously. I was one of these idiots 10 years ago, I thought I was good then and looking back I was fucking clueless. All I know know is that I don’t know everything but I know how to figure it out. /rant

Sold my Corvette through Facebook, sold my Cobalt through Columbus Racing, sold my last S10 through Columbus Racing, sold my MazdaSpeed Miata through Facebook, sold my other Miata through Columbus Racing. So I suppose I’ve had good luck with those. The last 5 cars I got rid of.

It’s a very nice car, hopefully it goes to a good home. Sucks you haven’t gotten to do alot with it.

Tom Bailey is one bad dude. Running bottom 6s all week on dragweek, it got turned up for a 5.99 last night after he already won. Awesome stuff.
