  1. Depends on the vehicle. I had a cousin that took his relatively new Mazda to an oil change place and they proceeded to "sell" him a quart and a half more than he needed. The extra oil fouled out numerous sensors and ended up costing a couple hundred to correct.
  2. They can't even make this simple on the aircraft I fly. "Check the oil within 10 minutes of shutdown"...wait, was that WITHIN or AFTER 10 minutes? It's changed a couple times in the last 10 years I've been flying these four different types. If it's after, how long after? Does the lack of a CAS message constitute a valid check, or do I have to open panels? What if the ramp isn't level? What if I motor the engine, turn the plane around and the message goes away? Never mind the fact that they warn us that in certain cases, an over-full condition can lead to scavenging ALL the oil overboard...or servicing both motors on the same leg can lead to engine failure. Some of the Rolls Royce motors maintain oil levels at -2 pints, some at -4. Servicing a motor above where it wants to run means having oil all over the cowl and a drippy mess on the ramp. Yep...I'll take a motorcycle any day.
  3. I think I'm going to head north and a bit west on the 14th to capture Montana, then march across North Dakota to stay in Fargo that night. Sunday, I'll make my way through the U.P. and probably stop in Machinaw for the night with an easy ride home Monday.
  4. Yep. Landed there in the evening, stayed in some sort of castle, took off the next morning. The little I saw was beautiful. That's not very helpful, is it?
  5. I have a buddy who's wife only goes grocery shopping once a month...for the whole month. They have a huge freezer. So basically, they eat frozen and processed food for 3.5 weeks each month. Might as well just go to Applebee's every day. Yuck.
  6. Run the marathon, you'll never regret it. I did the 2010 Glass City in 3:46. It was an amazing experience.
  7. I left Orlando last year and it started pouring 15 minutes out of town and didn't stop until 30 minutes south of Savanah. I was so wet I made a puddle at the front desk of the hotel checking in.
  8. Yep, rain and close lightning on the way to work last night. Deep enough water on the road and strong enough wind to make the rear tire lose it's line a couple times. That was fun.
  9. This thread is killing me, I'd really like a VFR. I hope it sells soon, I don't really have the space or funds at the moment.
  10. I've got about 60k all-weather miles on this bag and no complaints. It sits on a 3m paint protection film kit cut for my tank and I really like the combination. I haven't peeled the film off since I put it on, but I doubt there is any damage, it's pretty tough stuff...not that my bike is a show bike anyway.
  11. I don't care...but it does bug me a little that I just wasted my time to type that.
  12. Sounds like you had a good day. My wife and I got to ride together yesterday for the first time this year as well. Life is good.
  13. FJR for sure...not that I'm biased.
  14. Swanton...damn ipad. Ezpass works great all the way through Illinois.
  15. Yep, I take the turnpike to the airport almost every day and see up to four patrols in my 30 min ride. Crews are making repairs from this brutal winter and still working on widening to three lanes out to Stanton, which isn't likely to be done by the time we go through there. Fortunately, traffic slows to about 50, but never turns into stop-and-go.
  16. I've been riding every day, at least a little. Doing this as well: http://www.tourofhonor.com/pages/finishers2014.html came in third for Ohio. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the country anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks prior to the 12th. I'm working with the scheduler to get me home by the 9th which will give me a few days to adjust, but it isn't a guarantee so I may be a bit jet lagged. At best, it will have been a couple weeks since my last ride.
  17. Welcome! My standard tip for new riders is to spend as much as you can afford on riding gear...helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, etc. the skin you save will be your own. Oh, and take the MSF basic class...even if you have your endorsement.
  18. I didn't buy a guided tour, but I rented a VFR in Sydney and rode around the Blue Mountains of Australia for a day with a couple new mates. Does that count? Here's a link to the ride report I did. http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/151937-blue-mountains-of-australia/
  19. I have a 10x12 I built 10 years ago and it still isn't big enough...then again, I have a bike addiction. These things always seem to cost a bit more than anticipated too. Mine has a "skid" foundation with a pressure treated floor. Any bigger than that and I would need a "rat wall", check your local codes. It's all wood with T1-11 siding so I have the illusion of security. Truth is, with all the lithium powered tools out there, anyone can cut their way into your house or shed in a matter of about a minute. I drilled a hole in each side of the door hinges and latches and installed a lag bolt in each, also for added false security. Lately, I've been considering getting a solar panel power outfit from Northern Tools for a couple hundred bucks. You can run lights, charge batteries and run other stuff with this set up.
  20. Wow, I set out this morning to collect some more Tour of Honor pictures, including one down by Cincinnati, so I didn't see any of today's posts. Got to the Pony right at 1530 but didn't realize it'd be so busy...duh. I only go there during the week and mostly in the off season, but I should have known it'd be packed. Walked around for a bit, but didn't know what any of you guys looked like, didn't think about the shirt. Got my tires and headed over to Roosters about 1650 but didn't see any bikes in the lot...they were pretty busy too. Ah well, next time. Headed north, grabbed one more pic then home.
  21. Reservations made for the first two nights.
  22. I'm shooting for IP about 1530, but can't stay for dinner. Bummer, but at least I'll get to meet some of you guys.
