  1. I just had alcohol come out my nose. That stings!
  2. I knew you'd like that.
  3. Geez man, hope everything turns out ok for you. I am/was looking forward to riding with you again. I'm planning on positioning Friday evening, just have to decide between Beckley (kinda lame noon departure...too much time to kill on Saturday), Parkersdurg (do I really want to join those weirdoes?) or somewhere more suitable to my unimaginative route between points A and B...
  4. Right, IMO '16s really should be gen4 or gen3 should start at '16. Anyway...Bullshit. It'll take time to work this all out, but I think a reprogrammed ECM is definitely in order, along with other electrical tweeks.
  5. I've got 120,000 miles on my '09 FJR. I'm 5'3, so it's about the biggest bike I'd ever want to ride. All gens have their issues, but most are relatively minor, or taken care of by recall. The early gen2s ('06-'08) had kind of a snatchy throttle and stiff throttle return spring. Those issues are better from '09 on. The seats suck on all years. Gen3s are working through engine light issues, triggered by a number of silly things: not turning the ignition switch quite far enough, shutting down with the kickstand switch and at least one more that I can't remember, but the most annoying part of this issue is the dealer has to clear the code and many don't have the correct adapter to do that. A small percentage of gen1 bikes had valve guide issues. Cam chain tensioners have plagued both gen1 and 2, but it seems the current CCT is a winner with no reported failures. '6-'09 bikes had a ground wire terminal block issue, fixed via recall, but many of us feel the recall wasn't comprehensive enough. Overall though, any year FJR is going to be a runner and you'll probably never wear the engine out. I know a guy that put just short of 400k miles on a gen1, with no major engine work.
  6. Took a second front wheel to work to press new bearings and seals into it. Having a second set of wheels allows me to completely wear out my tires locally, while having new rubber available for out-of-area trips.
  7. Improved my tank bag power wiring by adding an SAE connector so I can pull the damn thing off and take it into the hotel at night. Not sure what I was thinking when I did the initial wiring.
  8. Glad you had a great time riding with some really great FJR people! I normally make it to EOM, but missed it this year because I was riding The Smokies with some really old friends that same time frame. I'm really glad Wayne didn't go down after whacking that deer though and regret not getting to hang out with Tyler. I did make it to NAFO this year...it was awesome!
  9. I guess I need to ride with you guys more.
  10. I might be in for the Saturday portion, have to go home Sunday for work. Put me in the "interested" category.
  11. I'm just the opposite of that.
  12. Here in Wood Co, if you go any bigger than my 10x12 shed, you have to do a rat wall, which means pouring a slab/footer type floor might just be simpler. Check your local building code.
  13. Howdy. I'm about a half hour north of you.
  14. Just got back from Dallas on my mile muncher. Started off a little chilly though.

    2016 FJR

Fjrforum.com probably has the most comprehensive content, but the moderation of the site and cantankerous nature of the old-timers sometimes turn new folks off. I still call it home though.

You're welcome to try my just-barely-broken-in '09 with 102,000 miles on it, if you want a general idea of how awesome FJRs are.
  17. Oh yea...on topic. I live in a Toledo suburb (not by choice). Basically, what Whaler said sums it up pretty well. Stay out of the city proper. Give me a shout if you need some specific info.
  18. I used to hang out at how-weirds all the time during college. I took the owner and his kids up flying around Christmas every year to see the lights from the air. That pretty much got me free drinks the rest of the year.

    Cleveland IMS

I was there Saturday from about 10-1230, my bike was in the lot. I wasn't real impressed with the content this year, but at least I got a good ride in.
  20. The wrong date threw me. Doesn't matter, I rode to Titoute for lunch that day (Sunday the 23rd). How about a repeat this Sunday 8/30...or in your case 8/31, since you're a day ahead of us? I need to wear off the last 2k miles on these tires before mid September.
  21. Yep, I'll be in Savannah for training, then stopping at EOM on my way back north. See you there?
  22. 94,000. I'll have 100k by the end of the year. I was just reading up on your WV ride coming up in September. I might have to work that weekend, but if it works out that I don't, I'm going to ride down there, at least for a night. I should know in a day or two.
