  1. Wait....when you say 2.0L in the beige MKI, do you mean 2.0T out of a MK V or later or some other 2.0L engine? Pics?
  2. Nothing wrong with belly buttons either. forget the cheap v-8 route, Keep it inline. I have my ear to the ground if I hear about any inline 8's I'll pass the info your way. There was a straight 8 40's pontiac junker on CL not that long ago but it looked like the engine needed a total rebuild even though it ran and you had to buy the whole car to get it: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4901974568.html As neat a car I think this is, I think it's too far gone to bring back from the dead and the seller is kidding himself on the price. I know it is a straight 6 and a flathead but: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4851850166.html have you considered a V12? I mean if you want something massive that will haul the mail..... http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/4841221662.html Seller seems like he would be negotiable, plus you could put a chevy 350 into the chassis and resell the car for what you paid. even cheaper but you may have to do a little work: http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/4897696613.html you can convert the older v12s to a triple weber carb setup or dual quad 4bbls...just sayin'. here is one with the chevy TH400 trans: http://columbus.craigslist.org/pts/4839457663.html
  3. not to hijack but....Does anyone know about the Subaru VIP program? I'm eligible for the program (must be an employee of a Subaru Business Partner). I've seen places where it is 2% off of MSRP and others where it is 2% off of dealer invoice. Also does it apply to cars ordered? can it apply to left overs to get a better deal than a left over already is? Wife has been making noises that she wants a manual trans crosstrek next year when her audi is paid off.
  4. color me shocked someone is trying to do something illegal selling a used car. Back in NY I used to do the open title thing, but in NY is isn't illegal because some cars you can literally get ownership papers for using a bar napkin bill of sale and a vin rubbing. Also cars are taxed at registration not title transfer. Something tells me either the seller is going to learn a harsh lesson (that nobody wants a problem prone euro luxury car at his flip price) or the people who are shopping for old European luxury cars at stupid cheap prices kinda know what they are getting into. I'd like to think nobody is dumb enough to buy something as sketchy as an Audi at that price without an inspection or some knowledge on how to fix stuff, but I know I would be wrong - however why deprive those people of the lesson they need to learn as well regarding "buyer beware?" Let Audi get his plates back, then go to the kid's house and kick him in the nuts for all I care. Just seems like a huge waste of effort to "catch a (used car) predator".
  5. no I mean what's the point with messing with the dude? Is the might of CR going to change all the shady-ness of the used car industry one shitty seller at a time? this sounds like a real good way to screw over AudiOn19s (who still needs to get his plates back) and not make a difference as to the fact that the used car market is only slightly more dishonest than the used condom market and three times as sketchy.
  6. what's the point again? is this what happens when we all cabin fever?
  7. FWIW - Belts can take a lot more abuse than chains can. On dad's supercharged harley we are putting down double the hp and torque on a carbon reinforced belt that is narrower than stock. I also once knew a guy who rode his heritage to the ALCAN Highway and back and picked up a rock in the belt drive teeth. The rock took a chunk out of the teeth of the pulley and left the belt intact. Don't underestimate the belt. A lot of reasons people think chains outlast belts is because there is a lot of maintenance around a drive chain that keeps it going. When was the last time you had to oil a belt? or adjust the rear axle due to stretch? but I hear someone say - what about timing chains vs timing belts? Well in those situations the load requirements are different. Belts are not ideal for low load situations at high RPM in a constantly heated environment as compared to a chain. A chain as a drive method will distort the sprockets due to load, as a cam drive it will not because the load is very low. Additionally the chain material is not as temp sensitive as belt material and can run in oil. Which brings me to my one worry with the slingshot belt - how much weight is it really pushing? I have a feeling this thing will feel like it has enough power as it is, but don't be shy if you feel it needs more because of the belt. If the belt is over stressed it will visibly tell you by chucking teeth before it fails, a chain won't give you that luxury.
  8. get the TC. Its a toyota. Plus TRD actually sold a supercharger kit for them if you want to get bonkers later on.
  9. close range like that? more likely bleeding from exit wounds.
  10. I have to agree with ForceFed - they are pretty upfront about the traction requirements and road hazzards being different from track racing. The only element they really remove is the possible police intervention and arrest. Let's be clear - they are emulating real heavy street racing, not two dumbshit 18 year olds screwing around with clapped out fox body mustangs. I don't know about you guys, but some of the big money races I used to see back in NY involved trailer-ed cars, closed streets etc and it had been that way since the 60's. The only differences between that and what I see on SO is that SO has huge lighting setups, There isn't a crowd of people including your friends and neighbors surrounding the starting line, and there isn't a line of angry people in cars because there are suddenly two large tow rigs blocking a public road. the days of friendly stoplight to stoplight street racing between two cars that double as daily drivers are largely gone. The risks are just too great and the rewards are almost nil.
  11. I'm originally from NY so the no records doesn't bother me, neither does the title having an error since NY doesn't use them for vehicles older than 1973 (I can and have registered cars with bills of sale written out on a napkin). The thing that worries me is getting stopped for an "inspection" and having to explain to the officer that I don't have paperwork on the second vin and the car came that way.
  12. wow, yikes!!!! that's a shame. if it was something stupid like an "open title" with the wrong name I could have easily fixed that but having more than one vin on the car is dangerous territory. When you said the car was going back to the owner I was going to call and see if I could jump on it, but I'm going to stay way clear of that.
  13. Go buy a cheap power inverter. I would say just pop down to RadioShack and pick one up but....
  14. and you have to remove the seat? I'm 6'5 and I don't, but getting in and out of the car is a bitch.
  15. just ran a google search on this and the only thing was him discharging a weapon in public at another car back in feb 1998. Of course the only source is this article/conspiracy theory about GM running a smear campaign on him so it is dubious at best: http://dailykanban.com/2013/09/the-rencen-commentaries-a-smear-campaign-in-wikipedia-and-mating-with-monkeys/
  16. just exactly how tall are you?
  17. Does that apply to the Riveria? because if it does, I've got some CL searching to do....
  18. a 2.0L VW engine still needs cam followers and coil packs every once in a while. and timing belts. buy her a car with a non interference motor off this list. that way when she breaks a timing belt she doesn't have to junk the car: http://www.aa1car.com/library/timing_belts_interference_engines.htm
  19. people who are genuine characters usually are. mostly because they have opinions that others don't agree with.
  20. honda civic. stock honda civic
  21. how does a car company from a country where it rains so much one could say it spends part of it's time underwater make a car where parts rot out that quick? So say someone wanted to own a manual trans disco? what's the best year to look for? Disco I? II? which one should be avoided at all cost? color me intrigued.
  22. I will say this since we are talking about it, all the good contributors I liked from jalopnik back when I used to sorta contribute some how ended up at TTAC. Murlee Martin esp. It used to piss me off to no end when Wes Siler used to tell me, that "Murlee Martin stuff is crap. Nobody reads that". I read that. I liked it a lot.
  23. bummer. You have to be a real interesting dude to paint a brand new S5 lime green. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stalk him online.
  24. wait, they made discoverys in manual trans?
