  1. you could do it yourself:
  2. I would have a shop pressure test the system for leaks. You think your compressor is leaking but it's probably all the seals as well as the lines and even the condenser contributing to that. A pressure test with UV dye will tell you all the weak points. That corvettemods conversion kit is just that - a conversion kit. It won't "automatically fix it for you" unless the compressor and the seals were the only problem, and you won't know that until the system has been tested.
  3. Any white or light colored car with matte black tint over the lights just doesn't photograph well. As a personal preference I think it makes it look like a teenager owns it, it's like plastidipped anything - just not a good look for convincing people that a car is well cared for, even it if is.
  4. I think it means you only get that price if you put $2K down and finance the rest through them. Cash buyers, $0 down payment buyers, and buyers with their own financing will probably get a different price. case in point here is the same car for $15,000 with $1500 down financed through them: https://cars.trovit.com/listing/2009-porsche-cayman-coupesalelow-payments-any-credit-approvd.F1lw1wX1jF1e These moving target price ads are usually a sign that the BHPH dealer is really in the business of Repo and resell. Oh and with 134K miles I don't think third party credit is an option, not even penfed would touch that, so it's either a cash sale or BHPH. It should also be telling that I just typed Porsche Cayman repo into google and that ad above was like the second hit (technically linked within the second hit).
  5. Ok, try meth. Try it, just once, what harm could it do? Everybody's doing it. Lol. Seriously though, did you zoom in on the dash pic? This thing has 134,862 miles on it. Holy crap that's a ton of miles. I don't know if I would touch it without a giant stack of service receipts. It may be a cheap porka, but that's the kind of porka that stabs you in the ribs and steals your wallet off the nightstand. I know you service your own stuff, but parts are still expensive.
  6. I had two friends with Alfa Spiders in the 90's. One was a 1970's in semi-rough shape and we were constantly working on it in my driveway because he didn't have any tools. The other was a girl whose parents bought her a new yellow one in 1993 and it was always dealer serviced - it ran flawlessly until midway through college when the dealer who had been servicing it said they wouldn't service it anymore because they couldn't get parts. This was in the days before the internet so she traded it away for peanuts. My experience with the italians is mostly through motorcycles and specifically ducati's. anything 1970's is generally tough. Poor quality materials, poor access to replacement parts, and the tendency for the italians to push it too far to make it high performance and interesting meant breakage. The joke we used to have about working on old 70's bevel ducati's is that they made the bikes like Laverne and Shirley made spaghetti - Take the finest ingredients and throw them against the wall and see if it sticks. I had a 90's 900SS for a breif period and that was in the cagiva era when the italian mentality of "be the fastest/best handling at all costs" gave way to; "we can't sell these things if they ca't stay running". The only issue I had with that bike for the very brief time I had it was wondering when the neck was going to crack due to design defect. My experience with Ducati from 2006 to now has been one of great bike, reliable, stupid little issues like a failed hose clamp and the bike being delivered missing the brake and shift rubbers, and dealing with a supply chain that took forever to get parts, dealers that sometimes screwed the repair, and a near constant fight for warranty work that should have been easily covered. Everyone I have spoken to with a fiat Abarth 500 has had similar experiences (look for Jewtoys posts on the subject in this forum) - great vehicle when it works, an extra pain in the ass when it doesn't. If they mad a stick alfa gulia - it would already be fap fodder, but they don't so in my mind I have them filed under "beautiful car that I wouldn't want to own out of warranty". YMMV

    Anthony

Sorry to hear this, hope he pulls through ok.
  8. I used to see the ads for these in Kit Car magazine in the 90's, It was a kit for CJs and wranglers. I think it had been around since the '70's as the ads always looked low budget and xeroxed. I mean, it's just a stock wrangler with the roll bar removed and fenders and flares, not really hard and certainly unique. It's also futt bucking ugly which....it hard to get around. In the late 80's 4x4 hot rods used to be a thing, and you used to see guys at shows with old lifted CJ's with 1930's bodies mounted to them. It was kind of a cool blip of a trend that gave us Grave Digger
  9. yeah...who is going to spend $5 to list a $500 beater or a $1500 project car. The question is - where are they migrating to? Some of those CL sellers could barely use CL, thinking that they would be able to use FB - yikes.
  10. As much as it seems like complaining, I would rather deal with the crazies and have it be free than to spend $5 for a CL ad. I just think CL was trying to solve for a problem that was a mild annoyance (scammers) and ended killing what made it great. I've been liking facebook marketplace lately. Way more sensible than CL, and way fewer scammers (for now).
  11. It's an opinion piece, meaning this is not a staff writer but an outsider who wrote well crafted opinion prose that CNN decided to publish. CNN actually does this all the time, so does the NY times, the WSJ and you know...real news outlets. Hell even Fox news does it on their website once you get past the double large banner opinion pieces of Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson. you kind of higlight part of the problem with "media" and how it is consumed. Op Ed sections have been around since there have been newspapers, but lately consumers of news are not seeing the distinction between "educated opinion" and factual reporting. It hasn't helped that outlets like Huffpo, Fox News, Breitbart etc have blurred the line - often passing off opinion pieces as informative reporting. This is a little out there. I will give you that some political strategy does seem Machiavellian but you have to remember here, we haven't even had the primaries yet. This is the part of the process where anybody can run for the support of the party and it makes sense once you consider the selection process: The primary vote determines who will be the representative party candidate, and then they vote in the election https://votesmart.org/education/presidential-primary#.XMG-UPkpBPA Although the parties (both Democrat and Republican) can "lean" one way or the other behind a potential candidate, typically they don't have that much control over who within the party wants to throw their hat in the ring for primary. When the party does meddle, it's usually pretty obvious because...well..the more people you involve the less of a secret you can keep: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/5/3/17290902/dccc-2018-midterms-primaries-democrats-nancy-pelosi-laura-moser Does Joe Biden want to be president? well he has run before and now his credentials and stock are better than before and this could be his best and last chance. Historically speaking Vice presidents are often favored to be presidents because it's the closest thing to prior job experience there is. So yes Joe is running because he wants to be there. Is the Democratic party conspiring to have them out there as a decoy? that's a little far. This year has a large field of people running and a lot of them are more left of center than usual, so if anybody in the Democratic party asked him to run it would be to be the moderate choice in a field of potential candidates that are more progressive than moderate. However, I highly doubt they would have even needed to ask him since most VP's end up running after they serve their time as VP (Teddy Roosevelt, Truman, Coolidge, Nixon, Ford, Johnson, and GHW Bush were all VP's that became president and the presidents that weren't VPs were usually running again the incumbent party's VP like Hubert Humphrey or Al Gore). I don't think the Party could stop him if they didn't want him to run, that's not really how it works. Biden's in it to win it, same as everyone else in the field. the DP isn't going to really flex too much until we get closer to the primary in feb-june 2020, and will just let the field weed itself out right now through candidate action and scandal. After 2016 the DP revised it's primary process so it's more transparent and open (hence the large field). Any serious meddling at this point would be both premature and obvious. If there is a "credible" conspiracy theory - it's that the Democratic party is still pushing for a woman candidate, so the recent "creepy joe" allegations are the democratic party pushing his dirt into the light so the #meetoo friendly base would shift focus back to Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobucher, et al. It's still out there but it is plausible since the party can't make someone not run, but they can and have in the past dug up a bunch of dirt on someone and leaked it to the public as a way of "discouraging" that person from running or keeping them from getting the primary vote.
  12. I do the same thing. I think that people really are that cheap, $5 doesn't seem like much, but based on the past experience of CL, I would not pay $5 to have to deal with CL buyers.
  13. so today is the first day I had a chance to search CL since the $5 listing fee went into effect on the 15th. There were hardly any interesting ads at all and so many fewer than normal. It felt like an electronic version of those terrible car selling papers you see at the supermarket. RIP Craigslist. fortunately for me motorcycle ads are still free for now so...
  14. Technically easter or Eoster worshippers are germanic pre-christian "pagans", since this was their holiday and celebration of the goddess before the catholic church culturally misappropriated it in the 1st century because...well sex sells and ain't nothing sexy about zombie Jesus. The chocolate, the "spring" celebration, the fertility of it...all come from Eoster. Christian's are Pascha worshipers which is the correct name for it, but I dare you to find a christian who isn't a theologian and member of the church who knows or calls it that. Also, aside from the churches, several secular luxury hotels were bombed as well at the same time, but let's not let that get in the way of a good anti-christian narrative. I mean look what those fuckers did to Eoster, they even stole her name, dem bishes be crazy yo. You do not come between a christian and their marketing machine, nor a politician and their appeal to a religious member of their base.
  15. so for those promoting "move on" are you going to vote for him next round? One thing the Mueller report detailed that Barr did not, was that the president absolutely intentionally acted unethically for his own self interest against the american people and the only thing that prevented that from happening were the ethics of the experienced government employees on his staff. For any other candidate this would disqualify from consideration, so does it for him as well? or is still trolling the libs more important than actual justice and democracy? because cynicism is cooler than intelligence.
  16. The problem isn't the democrats or republicans Tim. The Problem is with you. The report revealed some very serious problems with our government and also revealed that there are still public servants who remember they serve the public. This warrants a closer look and an examination, but you just want to lambaste the people that are doing that because you don't understand the gravity of what this report means. you complain that the Mueller report didn't lead to action, and then you complain when it did. But then again I can't expect much of an open mind from you when you are actively wishing strokes on people whose opinion you don't agree with.
  17. I should add...if you feel like doing the work, 4cy wranglers make excellent 350 chevy swap candidates. They have 4.11 gears in the same D30/D35 axle arrangement so you can do a 1" body lift and run 32" tires and still have decent off the line. All YJs are OBD1 so carb'ed 350 chevys are a real easy swap. There are at least 3 companies that sell the mounts and I believe the only real "fab work" is sawing off the old stock mounts which are welded to the frame. I've priced out a v8 swap twice for my YJ and I believe it can be done for $1500 cleanly (or less than $1000 junkyard dirty). Also, one upgrade I recommend but didn't mention earlier is ZJ rear disc brakes. It doesn't increase braking effort or stopping distance, but YJ drums are a pain in the ass when they go out of adjustment and part of the reason jeeps brake funny (rear jumps around under hard braking). The last of the first gen grand cherokees (96-98) have rear disc brakes on D35 axles and are 100% bolt on. IF you go to pick and pull on one of their $50 all you can carry days you can get everything you need to do the swap cheap.
  18. Extremely common. I think I got lucky with mine in that I got nearly 10 years out of it before it cracked, but every jeep owner with a 4.0L I know of has to deal with this at some point. I fixed it with a stainless header. I run the Borla header and it's been awesome but I don't think they make it anymore. It also sounds stupid loud when I run it open header. I think it was like $350 when I bought it over a decade ago, but you can get steel aftermarket headers for like $200 now. The YJ is the last evolution of the CJ design and the bridge to the more modern TJ. CJ guys used to make fun of the YJ because it was "plush" but that was really only because it had a real dashboard and high back bucket seats with fixed headrests, carpet, and rollbar padding. They ride every inch as bad as an old CJ, and many people (like Rudy's CJs) rebuild the CJ's using wrangler parts (including the body tubs). I've seen plenty of YJ's backdated to CJ's also because people really hate those square headlights. the TJ is just a better jeep all together. it's better off road, it rides better on road, and it's the jeep that needed to be built to bring people back over because in 1997 people really weren't into signing up for a daily driver with fewer comforts than a 1957 chevy. It is what the YJ should have been, but never got there because American Motors was bankrupt and being bought by Chrysler. die hard jeep people are nostalgic to a fault. every new wrangler that comes out is leaps and bounds better than the generation that preceded it, but they will still bitch and moan about it being too complex, too plush, too expensive (FYI, I paid $19,500 for my YJ in 1995 - I could have bought a brand new z28 for $18,160 that year). It's bullshit, the TJ is a better vehicle - the YJ is just the best "old jeep thinking" had to offer.
  19. I think I can expound on this a little bit. the best years to get are the 1993-1995. Why? well they went to the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder which makes the drive-train pretty interchangeable with all of the TJ stuff. I run a TJ Rubicon NV3550 in my 1995 and to swap it in all I had to buy was an adapter kit from advance adapters for the T-case shifter. here is a good article on the YJ that covers why it's better to look for a 93-95: http://www.fourwheeler.com/features/154-1305-wrangling-buy-the-best-jeep-ever/ As far as reliable and working on them...well in 140K+ miles my jeep has only been on the back of a flatbed twice. Once when it was attempted to be stolen and the theives had damaged the ignition lock before realizing that the alarm had an ignition cut out so it would never start, and the second time is when an old fuel line ruptured and it was leaking fuel near the exhaust. It was still drive-able, but I didn't want to risk fire. There were two situations where I probably should have towed it and drove it home: first, when I broke the rear axle u-joint and dropped the rear drive shaft. I ended up pulling the slip yoke, putting it in 4 wheel drive, and driving it 2 miles home as a FWD jeep. The second is when I blew up my AX-15 and only had 3rd and 4th. I put it into 4wd low and managed to limp 4 miles home with the engine screaming at 35mph. So they are extremely tough, can be worked on roadside to limp home, and I would say are generally reliable, even when wounded. One thing I can tell you is that ignition parts on these will take it out of commission and autoparts store aftermarket parts are poor quality. Chrysler makes most parts you need to repair it (esp the failure prone crank trigger), and accell makes a really hot coil that works 100% better than stock. The distributors are non-adjustable and will go 50K miles before needing a cap and rotor. I think I am still on plugs from 2005, plug wires from 2010, and oil from 2016 and it hasn't needed anything. The 93-95 bodies were galvanized but not well, so they are lest rusty than earlier ones but you will still see rot in the cowl area (esp below the jeep logo) the front fenders, the windshield, and the floors. Check the body mounts as most jeeps the lower mount rots off and people just leave them. The majority of 4.0L wranglers come with D30/D35 open diffs with 3.08 gears. If you find one with tracklok, it's probably going to be blown due to age. lots of people put detroit lockers in them and they change the handling slightly. Super rare is the "towing package" with came with 3.55 axles and tracklok (this is what my jeep has) and let me tell you 3.55 gears makes it so much better to drive, esp if you put it on big tires (I run 30x9.5). 1994-95 have leaf spring packs with extra leafs in them so they ride better on the road. Canadian YJ's (not called wrangler's just "YJ") have dana 44 axles instead of the Dana 30/35 setup in the US, so if you see a Canadian one for sale, snatch it up. The full doors are notorious for rot, but if you are buying one, try to get one with a hardtop and full doors. Half doors and soft tops are easy and cheap to come by, but nice full doors are still $500 a set on craigslist. I upgraded to TJ doors which is possible but not 100% bolt on. I think $3K is possible but will be difficult. $4-5K is much easier to find a nice one. Jeeps are tinker toys so don't be put off by lots of parts swapping. Personally I tell people to stay away from suspension lifted YJ's unless they know what they are looking at. There were a lot of cheap kits in the 1990's that lifted them to mall crawl and make them handle like crap and fall apart. even with a good kit - 4" lift kits are just about the worst unless you are looking for a rig that is more off road than on. I'd rather have a 1" body lift to clear 32" tires, because it doesn't kill the handling. upgrades I recommend: - Exhaust: go stainless. Borla makes a nice stainless header to tailpipe setup. I rotted out two different factory systems in less than 10 years before I put this in. Been in since 2004 and don't have a complant yet. - 30x9.5 inch tires on 1" wider rims. yes it will stick out past the body, but it makes it handle so much better. - 3.73 gears. I have 3.55, but at one point I ran 3.73 gears in it and man was it fun. TJ rubicon runs 30" tires and 3.73 gears if you need endorsement. running anything taller than 26" with 3.08 gears is so miserably slow I can't begin to tell you. - relocate the radio to the center console. the windshields leak, and they leak on top of the radio. mine has eaten 6 head units over the years. There is actually a kit to do this and the locking consoles have the head unit mount. - upgrade the coil. I've had two crack over the years. I have an accell in there now since 2014 and it's been phenomenal - Put in a manual front axle disconnect, the stock one is vacuum operated and probably ceased functioning at this point. Most people tell you to just lock the front axle solid, but if you run any type of posi in the front it will make the jeep handle funny in turns. Also it lets you run the jeep in 2wd low.

    CBJ

hoping for a CBJ Islanders match-up in the playoffs at some point. If it's the final I'm pretty sure I'll lose my mind.
  21. well it's not MSRP - it's marked $1100 off ($12,995 msrp - $11,895). From what I remember selling bikes the profit margin isn't super great on ducati, I think by the time it sits on the showroom it's got maybe $1500-2000 profit margin not counting the vig the dealer has to pay on the floor plan - so it's probably at cost or pretty close to it considering that the dealer had to pay full interest on the unit sitting around. Occasionally the mfg will offer incentives for the bike to clear out inventory, like ducati just did with the 2018 supersport models, which is what I meant by discount, I can't see them selling it without taking another $1000 haircut on it and I don't know how that's gonna happen. Then again they swore up and down they wouldn't go below $6K on the 2017 SCR 950s and I just saw them marked for $5300 online.
  22. I use this stuff on motorcycle exhaust pipes. expensive for what it is but man does it work well.
  23. Was in Pony on Friday, spoke to some delightful woman in the ducati section. It blows my mind that there is a 2017 SS still on the floor, and that Ducati isn't offering a blow out incentive on it like the 2018 just to get it out. Sitting right next to it was a 2019 with ohlins for maybe $3K more full price. I don't know how they are going to move it without discounts. The calendar has no demo rides and nobody in any of the sections knows when they are going to happen. Guess I'll have to reach out to Triumph in GA - thanks for the tip on that.
