What carbs are on that bike, Mikuni BS cv's? They really aren't that hard to get right, you can be talked through it on here. Stock filters, stock exhaust? Usually you can just set the screws to stock settings, run a length of tube filled with heavy oil as a makeshift manometer, synch them at idle, and call it a day.
-
I'd do it for free if you came up here. I have synch gauges and I use wideband to get spot on with the AFR.

That's a good price. A guy in the VJMC is selling a red 89 and he wants over $5k for it.

You've got a clean Nighthawk there, don't do anything you'll regret in the future. Believe it or not these will be worth money a few years down the road. If you are going to cut parts up, try to source a part off ebay and do it to that. If you decide 5 years from now to go back to stock, you'll be upset when you see how much the prices for parts will have gone up.
-
Yep, nuke it and start over. Don't use the bloat-ware OS from HP. Use a real version of Windows.

This one is better, but it's only a V-6

If my transfer out of state doesn't happen, I will be there. I can bring oil if anyone needs it, my bike seems to be secreting it from multiple areas.

Look at the pic you posted, the one aimed at the center of the caliper between the pads. Are you sure the rotor isn't rubbing on that center piece of hardware? Can't tell for sure from the pic. Edit- NVM, with your rotors it would make the noise intermittent if it was rubbing there.

Use Sil-glyde. I got hooked on it after working in the automotive industry. You don't need much, just a thin layer. It won't run or go anywhere you don't want it too. I use it like Franks hot sauce.

That's a good question to ask too. Wheel not centered?

Cylinders are probably all right, that noise is not from a brake pad applying pressure to a disc. Sounds more like some hardware is rubbing. Just FYI, on calipers the piston doesn't really 'retract'. After you apply hydraulic pressure and release, the side to side movement on the disc ever so slightly moves the pad and piston away, so there is always a little brake drag(hence why full floating rotors are used on race bikes. Noisy as all hell but very little drag!). If you had a stuck piston, it wouldn't make much sound, just normal braking friction that didn't release. Whats your pad thickness look like on both sides?

That sounds about right. I'll give mine a measure and get back to you.

I did my job training down in Atlanta, so I totally agree on the traffic. I couldn't believe how far away from the city center that it starts jamming up. And I saw some very shitty driving by the people, like going left of center to pass up all the traffic stopped at a light, only to go to the front and turn right! Was nuts, saw a few accidents per day.

Sounds like a decent place! I hope I get it. The other options are Colombia SC, Atlanta GA, and Des Moines IA. Not interested in ATL or Iowa, I could deal with Columbia.

So my job has offered me a transfer to another state to get me out of furlough status. It's either take the transfer, or sit and wait for possibly 2 years here in Cleveland. So I opted for the transfer, because bills. There is a possibility of 4 different locations, and although I don't get a choice specifically, they told me to list order of precedence, so I'm confident I'll be getting Charleston SC. If not, I'll be back with a new thread So has anyone lived in that area? I'm a big water sports fan, which is one reason I've never left Cleveland. So the ocean there is a big plus. Looks like the weather is rideable almost all year long. Finding a place to live looks like it will be tough, rent looks a bit higher on average there and in the surrounding area. What is there to do around town? Bars, nightlife, food, women, etc.

Failure to control is a big one. I got hit with that back in college when my tire chirped when pulling out of my apartment complex. I tried to fight it since the officer couldn't explain what a chirp had to do with controlling a vehicle, but in the end I had to pay. That cop really didn't like me for some reason.... I think he was fishing for a DUI and when he found out I was sober, just had to pick something to make the stop worth his time.

Wow I'm amazed at how much the price differs with drivers. I only have one insured currently, but it's full custom coverage, with all the bells and whistles plus $3000 non-oem parts replacement for $30 a month through Geico. Are you guys calling an agent or just getting online quotes? My online quotes were almost twice as much as the same coverage through an agent (there are discounts that aren't always applied through online, you have to ask in person to have them added). I do have a few traffic misdemeanors but they are all from pre-2006 so I don't think they affect my premium.

Looks like in a few turns you were trying to force it with a lean. Start with a good counter steer and the bike will fall into the lean on its own. I've never taken the MSF BRC, but I'm sure they cover counter steering in detail so you'll learn about it then. It all comes with practice. As said before, head on a swivel. Defensive driving on a motorcycle will save your skin/life. Almost every-time I'm out, I prevent an accident by seeing it before it happens. Mostly at intersections or stops.

My harbor freight aluminum stand is getting a bit flimsy... I'd be interested. What's the width on the spool pawls when extended as far in as they can go? (most narrow)

I sure could. He's got em all.

'Carb Parts Warehouse', not to be confused with 'Car Parts Warehouse'. http://www.carbparts.com/ 4207 Ridge Road, Cleveland I stumbled upon the website for this place and wasn't impressed since it has broken links and looks like it hasn't been updated in years. Well I got tired of buying jests 2 by 2 online for $6 a pop and having to pay $8 to ship something that can just be thrown in an envelope. So I stopped by when I was in the area. The owner was in the store and was extremely helpful. The place looks like he does nothing but online sales, yet when I asked for the main jets I needed, he walked over to a bin, and in 2 seconds I had my requested jets in hand. No shipping and 5 bucks a pop for genuine Keihin jets. Awesome to know that there is a local place I can stop by to get parts I used to have to wait a week for and pay shipping. He's got pretty much all the hard parts for carbs in stock, and can order complete carbs like FCR's, CR's, etc, and from the prices he gave they are better than all the online retailers like Sudco or PJmotorsports. So If you need random carb parts and don't want to wait or pay shipping, hit this place up! Just call first, as I was warned he has weird hours.

Meth in Macedonia? Haven't been around there in a while but never looked like a place you'd find seedy folks at. North end always looked a little sketchy due to the horse track proximity though...

Yeah the wind was rough, I was all over the roads even going 40.

Bike is Yamaha 400. Was going to be dual purpose for vintage roadrace and landspeed, but since there is no competitive class for it in roadracing it will only see the Ohio Mile. Has provisions for the street to take to meets and such, but when I tear it all off for my first event in April it will probably stay off for good. Shocks are junk Chinese cheapos. Had to fill with my own oil and had a shop refill the nitrogen to the proper pressure. When I got them, one had ~70psi and the other had ~50psi. Shop filled to 100psi per my request. They wanted to put more in, and they should have more, but I don't trust the seals on them to hold any thing else. So far after sitting almost 7 months, and 120 miles on the street, they are holding up. I had originally sent a custom shock request to YSS and they refused to respond to my email or calls, so I said screw them. Tried for Hagon's as well, but the guy couldn't wrap his head around the fact that I needed 'custom' shocks. Wanted to sell me shocks for a stock bike, no matter how I tried explaining that stock shocks with the spring rate he quoted wouldn't work for my purposes. So these will do fine for the straights. Fairing was a random one from Airtech. Had to cut it up quite a bit to fit as it was smaller than I imagined. Was supposed to wrap around with a belly pan, but couldn't get it to work. I think it was made for smaller 250-2 strokes. I have a piece I glassed up that replaces the headlight hole for racing.
