  1. Oh, right! I guess if I ever did lean so far, I wouldn't be shifting anyway! I did reduce the rear sprocket by 2 teeth, but my new rear tire is also slightly shorter, so it's probably equivalent to at least subtracting one tooth. I try to keep in mind that engine braking is basically the same as applying rear brake. (That raises other questions for another time. Like braking/engine braking strategies going up or down hills, with or without curves.) As far as the rear brake goes for street riding and emergency preparedness, I can feel a significant difference in stopping power when adding the rear brake. However, when I do try to apply it fast, sometimes I trigger the ABS. I seam to be able to modulate the brakes better only using the front or by starting with the rear. If I start with the front then add the rear, I end up slowing down quicker than planned.
  2. That is what I do. When not shifting or braking, the balls of my feet are on the pegs. At a stop, I usually slide my foot forward so that the heel catches on the peg and my toe is to the side of the shifter. (Short first gear, so I want to be ready to shift.) The concept of keeping the toes away from the ground is partly why I'm asking about sliding the toe directly under the shifter. Not that I'm leaning that far yet, if ever. (I guess at a very high level, you might also consider drag from the toe sticking out?) I've been trying to use my rear brake more since my front brake isn't as strong as I'd like it to be. (A side effect of the ABS system as far as I know.) The way I try to use the rear brake is to transfer weight forward, if the clutch is in, before switching to the front brake. I lowered the brake lever/pedal to reduce the possibility of dragging or pressing to hard initially. (I read that some people let some air into the line or use weaker pads to make the rear brake less grabby.)
  3. I tried that for a short time when I was a newer rider. I felt that it helped me to get into 2nd gear easier, since my bike has a very short first gear. After switching back to non-GP shifting so I would be able to ride any random bike, I used to have trouble when I wanted to accelerate faster. I tended to kick down and downshift because it just felt natural to do it! It took a while, but I think I'm mostly over that now.
  4. Eh? Heel-toe shifter? (I use my heel to get into neutral before starting the engine. Positive neutral finder is nice.)
  5. When moving your toe under the shifter, how do you do it? Do you slide your toe forward directly under the shifter, or out to the side then under in an arc? When I first started riding, I kept both feet right at the edges of the brake and shifter so I could feel them. Then I started to place my feet further back away from the controls. The brake foot slides directly forward, of course. My shifter foot, tho, will go out first. Should I practise moving the toe directly under the shifter? (I'm not sure if maybe I have my shifter set too low or something, or if my feet are just too big. heh Size 11.5-12.)
  6. Wait. Whats the law issue?
  7. The SR6 cargos are bulky, but when I had them on they were surprisingly comfortable. I should've tried the SR4 jeans. I did try the SR6 jeans and didn't like how wide the legs were.
  8. Yeah, I was curious about that one, too.
  9. I was tempted to buy this CBR 250 just because it's so inexpensive. heh http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/5582102718.html
  10. I'm surprised I haven't seen this anywhere. Hilliard motorcycle officer died during training ride. I believe I saw this same group ride by shortly before the accident. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/05/20/witnesses-say-motorcycle-officer-who-died-veered-off-overpass.html
  11. Anyone have Bull-it riding jeans? I tried on the cargo version today and liked them. I liked that they weren't baggy in the back the way most 32x32 jeans I find are. The length seemed good in a seated position. Very comfortable. Iron Pony link: SR6 Cargo Manufacturer link: http://www.bull-it.com/jeans/sr6-jeans/mens-sr6-cargo-reg-black-3869.html They're supposed to have at least 6 seconds of abrasion resistance. Hip and knee armour is optional. I wonder how much heat they would hold considering they're black and layered! A little costly at $190 maybe, but I'm starting to get used to the prices of protective gear and the potential cost of not having it.
  12. Do want to get too far off topic (I'll post if anything good comes from the EJK.) but, yeah, if slowing towards a stop, pulling the clutch in early helps. Heading into a corner, I don't want to pull the clutch in. Also, I'm wondering if the throttle response is making it harder for me to blip smoothly. (The 300 has a slipper clutch, but I like to work on skills.)
  13. Wow, the purple bike is nice. (I don't like the headlights at all, but I wouldn't have to look at them while riding!)
  14. Yes, it's been one year as of tomorrow. And I thought no one was paying attention. ^_^ Well, at least I'll have a fuel controller--EJK--to play with this weekend. (Just trying to smooth out on/off throttle response while trying to be patient.)
  15. I would have cash if I sold my bike first, but then I would be without one during this fine weather. ^_^ I'm actually trying to resist until next year, but I don't know...
  16. I'm not sure what this pricing means. "$4500 - $4475" Should I buy it? (I'd have to do a credit card cash deal for 0% for a year with a 3% fee, then sell my current bike to help pay it off. heh) Oh, I guess it'd need new tires just from age.
  17. I guess I don't actually clean my chain. While the chain is warm, I just spay it with "Honda Chain Lube with Moly." It's just what I picked up in a local shop. From reading multiple sources, I would not use WD40 for cleaning. Maybe kerosene or a canned chain cleaner.
  18. Not sure if this was mentioned before. Going to see this movie hoping it won't turn out like March of Penguins. http://www.astoryfilm.com/
  19. Wow, this is for adults?? My 300 is actually too big?? Are there open track days? I might want to do this.
  20. Oh, didn't notice the number. Just that other bikes in that price range are from the 1980's!
  21. For real? About to blow up? 2007 FZ6, about 30k miles, $1000 http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/5559778722.html
  22. It almost seemed like he forgot how to counter-steer in addition to getting the bike to the right too early. I wonder if the turn would have been fine had the truck not been there to fixate on?
  23. People have been known to cure themselves of insulin resistance. Exercise is probably a key ingredient. Exercise also causes new capillaries to form, improving blood flow. Do research and be proactive. Don't accept the diagnosis as fate.
