  1. The original purpose of this thread was to ask if there is any reason to NOT use the pink (I said red before) "Asian" coolant. I guess the answer is no. It's ethylene glycol without silicate and it isn't hard to find. I'd rather spend more time up front and save trouble later. Simple enough and done. Learned a bunch of little things along the way.
  2. That's what it was, 5W-40 and on the cooler side. The newer, two-years older bike is getting 10W-40. This time it wasn't as dark or thin as last time. I did notice some fuel odour before.
  3. I just used some store-brand vinegar that my wife bought to get some cat pee odour out of the carpet. Might also try it as a weed killer. Oh, white vinegar is correct. haha For the chain I just use Honda something that I got at a local bike shop. Ultimately, I think the logic of using something like standard Peak Long Life is good. It's silicate-free and seems widely available and claims compatibility with other coolants. I think it's also phosphate-free, but phosphate can be beneficial. The "Asian" stuff has phosphate. BTW, Engine Ice contains propylene glycol which sounds good to me.
  4. Breathing is taken for granted until you can't take a breath. Then it's the only thing that matters! Just like coolant?
  5. No corrosion protection with just plain water. Then again, no additives that might cause harm in other ways.
  6. Maybe I'll just the vinegar mix for the bike with the gunk in the overflow tank then. The other one should be clean.
  7. I was planning to try flushing with 50/50 vinegar and distilled water, then just plain distilled water. (Before adding real coolant.) Will it blow up or just become a little more tasty? I wonder if I could put that flush water down the sink.
  8. What I noticed using T6 for two oil changes, it turns dark quick. It also seem watery when drained. I don't like how the engine sounds, but not having a lot of experience, maybe it sounds normal. There are times when I thought the clutched slipped a little on hard acceleration. Again, maybe it's just me. I'm ready to try an oil made for bikes.
  9. I got the Valvoline Asian coolant already from Walmart. It was $11-12. Also some Castrol Power1 oil and a Hi-Flo filter with the nut on the top. Just makes it easier to change.
  10. Ah. From what people say, the Honda Type II car coolant is the same and should cost much less. I don't know about the local price, but Amazon has it for $23 for a gallon.
  11. Right. That might be a problem with propylene. The "Asian" stuff seems to be more widely available, too.
  12. That Peak coolant reads "phosphate-free and silicate-free" and meets ASTM D-3306 and ASTM D-4340 standards, so I guess that works. I wanted propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol, but from what I could tell, the propylene coolants have some silicate in them. They also seem to cost more.
  13. Valvoline / Zerex Asian coolant, any good? Says silicate and borate free, phosphated hybrid organic acid technology. And it's red. heh https://www.walmart.com/ip/Valvoline-Asian-Vehicle-Antifreeze-with-Zerex-Pre-Mix-1-gal/49660461 From what I've read, Asia doesn't like silicate, but it's OK with phosphate. Europe doesn't like phosphate, but it's OK with some silicate. Universal coolant leaves out both, but has to replace it with something. (?) Anyway, mainly I keep hearing to avoid silicate in bikes because it will destroy water pumps. Also, this stuff is rated for 5 years, but my manual suggests changes every 3 years. Better to change sooner rather than later? And I wonder if the highly recommended blue Honda Type II coolant is worth twice the price and the inconvenience of going to a dealership to get it.
  14. I saw Quicksilver 5W-40 synthetic for ATV's at Walmart. I even took a photo of it. heh
  15. I think my old bottles only show JASO MA. I guess that's a combination of MA1 and MA2?
  16. Amazon has a deal for 25% off of Castrol Power1 4T which is JASO MA2. I almost ordered 6 quarts for $39 before tax. Advance Auto Parts has it for $7.50. (I decided to just get 3 quarts there, but it's out of stock in a bunch of stores.) They also have Valvoline 4T for $8.
  17. I did get a new used bike, but but my car is ancient and not likely to be replaced unless it dies.
  18. They're not flat at all. Probably 28-30 pounds front and 30-32 rear. Plus, it was sitting for a long time on stands.
  19. 2009 Triumph Speed Triple, 4600 miles, $2500 https://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/6068360340.html
  20. I wonder if I could count on a late season rebate deal.
  21. Dual compound front and rear or just rear? I was out last night when it started to rain and hail. I guess nothing is good on hail?
  22. I did consider the T30 EVO's. What's special about them compared to M7 RR's? (I'm guessing mileage.)
  23. So, I just found out that the coolant hasn't been changed ever "because it didn't need it." It's 5 years old...
  24. Oh, if anyone is interested in BECOMING a small sport bike rider, I'm selling my Ninja 300 for $3000 something. 6500 miles.
