Basically, Honduh over-engineered shit to the point of lunacy on these bikes. If I had the energy to strip it down and separate the brake system, I would. It's just easier to push the rear brake pedal every time I want the front brakes to function.
-
Page 123 of your Owner Manual states the front lever operates the front brakes and a portion of the rear. The rear pedal operates the rear and a portion of the front.

They looked fine, which is why I didn't bother inspecting them before ordering a new set. Timing belts deteriorate from the inside and you can't see the threads to inspect them. Peace of mind cost me $50 and two hours of getting to know the bike. Money well spent. Jim and I rode to lunch today and went through the valley. It handles alright for a big bike and I figured out the "weak" brake issue. There is nothing wrong with the bike. I just misunderstood "integrated brakes" for "linked brakes". The front lever only pressurizes the right front caliper. The rear brake pedal pressurizes the front left caliper and rear caliper. I just have to get used to using the rear brake.

Triggered, bro?

I was referring to the wheel valve stem for Rick's amusement, but yes.. I have a brake bleeder up top.

I mean, not funny... but also hilarious.

Sippin' on gin and juice.

Nice upgrade, @mello dude. I wont have this bike long enough to worry about the belts and pulleys again, but I appreciate the offer. This bike is a stop gap that will likely last a year or two for us before we're back onto a 2018+ model.

Shakedown ride. Runs great. Super comfortable. Could stop a little quicker, but it's 1000 lbs and older than most on the road. I was able to get my emergency braking to the point of making the front bark, bark, bark... until it stopped. That's all the brakes the Dunlops can handle in the dry without a pillion. Will be a learning curve coming from the new Wing and the BMW. Adjusted throttle cable slack after the test ride and found out I could raise the windshield even higher than I thought. All quirks remedied. Still, a super nice bike and am happy with the overall ride. I even ordered a retrofit kit to turn the cornering lights into LED driving lights. Should be here in a couple days.

Timing belt service and engine coolant flush happened today. Gonna put some miles on the Moldwing tomorrow and hopefully not spend this Easter in the intensive care ward. Amanda has declined my offer for a Muskie picnic. Something about not wanting to "tempt fate"...

Hmmm... the Oldwing does have a trailer hitch installed.
-
Been there. Pretty neat whole in the ground. Almost a mile in diameter and 570' deep. There was no girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford.. regrettably.
-
I will track that Oldwing out of pure ignorance and spite.
-
Looks that way, doesn't it?
-
Put the Oldwing on the lift where it belongs. Next up: timing belts, oil/filter, coolant flush. Amanda's new helmet is also on the way..

Rode the Oldwing to drop off my city taxes. Runs well, considering it's three decades old. Windscreen was in the worst place it could be... right at eyeball level. I only had the option to lift it, so I did. Never rode a bike looking through the glass before. Should be a fun experience. Timing belts and oil/filter should be here in a few days. Spark plugs/air cleaner were replaced at 20k miles, so those are not being replaced this season. Carbs were rebuilt and sync'd as well. With the exception of the timing belts, which I just don't trust based on age, this bike is maintained above/beyond my own expectations. Now.. where do I find Ohlins for a bike this old?

They're busy making more money elsewhere.

Fine gentleman, your old man. Please tell him we made it home without incident and we really like the bike. This will do quite well for the two of us. I'm excited to get it on the road. Thanks, Jen.
