  1. Drift rules allow them to use any combination of chassis and engine from a particular manufacturer. That allowed them to use a Scion TC body and a Toyota NASCAR V8 engine.
  2. But the car is a Z31 so they're calling it a 2JZ31. Wouldn't be my choice of engine for that car, but cool nonetheless.
  3. Yes, I know there are full-stop (all speed) ACC vehicles out there (Mercedes S-Calss too). These need to use radar sensors, while other systems (like the Prius) use infrared/laser sensors that are not capable of full-stop function.
  4. Ah, I see now that this was a second gen, while "the Woz" has complaints with his 3rd gen. I don't think the 2nd gen's did come with adaptive cruise control. FWIW, Toyota is now blaming it on the floor mat.
  5. The previous issues that have been stated about run-away Prius's has been a cruise control issue. If this car has "active cruise control" then the laser or radar sensor could have detected the cop car slowing in front and braked the car. However, these systems do not brake the car to a full stop, so the disengage at low speed. That's my best guess. EDIT: CNN is reporting that he used the e-brake to slow th car to 50 mph, then was somehow able to shut the car off.
  6. I think it sits a little too low for driving on the street, but other than that it's hot.
  7. Yeah it looks like this spec of car puts the GT3 at 2.61 kg/HP and the Viper at 2.52 kg/hp. I heard that the Vipers in this series actually have to run on 8 cylinders, so they're actually down on power compared to the production cars. Not sure why they do that instead of running an intake restricter, but it was from a credible source. http://www.fiagt3.com/teambio.php?countkey=20
  8. Some of the places we passed in the cab were a little sketchy. The closest resorts are about a 30 min ride from the airport. You'll get out of baggage claim into the mass of desperate cab drivers that are trying to grab your hands and lead you to their car. All we had to do was look through them and find the "Coco Tours" guy with our name on a sign.
  9. One push will turn it off if you're in anything except Drive.
  10. I was there in Dec and stayed at the Iberostar. There wasn't much reason to leave the resort if you just want to hang out at the beach or pool. There are vendors in the lobby's of most hotels that sell excursions. There was one that was a day long that took you to see some ruins and give you a historical tour of the area. We didn't do this. We did a dolphin swim which was decent. Some of the snorkeling excursions looked fun, but my wife wasn't too crazy about it. There's one that is takes you to a floating island where you eat drink, kayak, snorkel, etc all day. The only problem with that is there's no shade and you'll probably roast. If you booked on a site like Expedia or Orbitz I would book transportation through them ahead of time. It's pretty hectic once you get out of baggage claim. The local street vendors can be pretty pushy and will try to sell you everything. If you really want something to take home they can be haggled a lot lower. Everyone will call you "friend" and try to strike up a conversation about where you're from before trying to force you into their store. The food is different, mostly because there are a lot of Euro tourists so it's geared towards them. If you're staying at an all-inclusive, the first thing you should do is go to the reservations desk and make as many dinner reservations at the resort restaurants as possible. Any other questions just ask.
  11. This is how it should be implemented when/if it's mandated as well.
  12. Supposedly with the push button start on the Toyota's it won't allow you to shut off the car in Drive unless you hold the button down for 3 or 5 seconds. Other manufacturer's will shut it down after three quick presses. In a panic what do you think most people will do?
  13. They're doing it because it gains fuel economy. You'll be seeing all cars going this direction.
  14. Agreed. I think the StingRay's are some of the best looking Vette's and this mid-engine hot rod ruins it for me. The proportions are way off and the stance is wrong.

  16. Yup. A set of tires costs $16k. Sounds like the guy just loves fast cars and gets bored easily.
  17. Looks good Kyle. Glad to see some other OG's still on the forum.
  18. It's an extremely narrow angle V so all the cylinders are contained in one head. Put two of them together and you get a W8. Put 4 of them together and you get the Veyron's W16.
  19. Check out Archer on Thurs. nights.
  20. Yeah, but a finely woven net will absorb energy from the rider, while glass/lexan will just keep the rider sliding along at a high rate of speed until they hit something else.
  21. It's a very fast track and that makes it extremely dangerous. They need to put nets up in order to protect the riders.

    1. It's a media piece and I would hardly call cruising around the track and occasionally stabbing the throttle 'at speed.' 2. Agreed. 3. The rim is totally different, the center (airbag) is a recovered stock piece. 4. 600 hp and 600 ft-lbs with factory LS7 heads and a 6200 rpm redline is impressive to me, although I'm not sure what type of headers they're using or if they had to pass any emissions or durability tests. And getting 8.2L out of a small block is also impressive.
