  1. Anthony, Brandon was cleared of all charges because of a botched investigation that let to a lack of evidence and witness statements. Everyone/anyone with half a brain knows what they were doing out there, even the police. But they didn't have any hard evidence to nail him with. This bill opens up the definition of street racing so something like that doesn't happen again. The evidence doesn't have to be as damning in order to charge someone, i.e. they don't have to have video of a race with each driver showing proper ID for identification. The law is broad. I hope it's not abused, but I imagine if you get charged for no reason and have a good lawyer things will be ok.
  2. On the subject of this post...I just got a coupon in my mailbox for a cleaning service called "Two Girls and One Bucket." I don't think I'm going to call.
  3. Because I'm not a scientist doing research. I am an educated person reviewing the research done and trying to figure out how it effects my life. If all my sources of food and drinking water are going to die or be completely contaminated I could care less what the Earth looked like 400 million years ago. The Earth gets warmer and cooler over time, but the rate of warming is what's alarming. I'm not going to turn a blind eye to what we put in our air and water even if I were to think climate change were natural. But according to the worlds best scientists it is.
  4. CARB standards already do a pretty good job of this. Hope Ohio doesn't adopt these standards, like other states have.
  5. Try reading my original post, asshole.
  6. It's a global average that's getting warmer, not the peak temperatures in every area. He was interviewed and gave his explanations to what was written in the e-mails. If you are interested: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/11/26/807934/-Michael-Mann-Responds-to-CRU-Hack Also, everyone in this thread that thinks it's fraud has failed to address the fact that CO2 levels are the highest they have been and the problems it is causing in the environment. I, for one, believe the scientists because that's their job, that's their life's work, they pour over extremely large sets of data and do research into their fields. Right now the only people that seem to be denying climate change are politicians and average joe's that have no scientific background.
  7. Exactly. And what about the CO2 levels being the highest ever measured in the atmosphere (and they are able to measure this 100's-1000's of years in the past from ice core samples). And what about the CO2 dissolved in the worlds oceans being so high that is causes acidification and bleaching coral?
  8. Thank you. The point is that this was in Columbus and people are idiots.

  10. They have gone way too long without being able to sell anything. I admire what they are trying to do, but the idea that any start up can compete in the automotive market is a joke. The reality is, most of these start up companies will only be successful if they can develop something unique and license it to a major OEM. I admire the drive and innovative design the Aptera has come up with, but they will have a hard time selling cars to mainstream America. No matter what they do, the fact that they are 3-wheeled (considered a motorcycle) and don't have to meet the same safety standards as cars will be used against them in marketing. Even if they can meet automotive standards I feel the 3-wheeled stigma will plague them.
  11. I would rather go through the stress and expense of a false positive then bury my head in the sand and pretend it's not going to happen.
  12. I say this in every messed up thread like this but.... You gotta love Detroit!
  13. The new Ram's are sweet. I don't give a shit what the commercial looks like. If it gets someone's attention and they walk in the showroom, the spot did its job.
  14. Yes they do have an LSD in the 5.7 manuals and all 6.1's. The auto's and manual's get different rear end gear ratio's though.
  15. A TT 3.5L DI V6 could easily get 500 HP, and still get them 30 mpg for CAFE standards. (Of course it would be tuned to around 400HP so it slots below the V8...unless a TTV6 could be priced higher.
  16. Probably not, although when the 2.4L cars start getting cheap used, there may be a market for it. Otherwise, it's too small of a market and would only be good for exploring the limits of the powertrain, develop a good solution for the 2.0L SIDI (een though there are already quite a few people working on this), etc.
  17. Thanks. Things have started to look up. I got rid of the Sky almost a year ago now. My wife started a new job about 6 weeks ago and my job seems more secure. Maybe someday I'll buy another Kappa and finish this, or I might just moe on to other things.
  18. I'll start this thread by telling the story of why I bought my car and what the plans were, then I'll get on to the pictures. Having recently graduated from college (2005), working in the auto industry, and living in the Detroit area I wanted to buy a sports car and I was adamant on buying an American product. When I saw the Sky at the auto show I was very impressed with the style and called a local dealership to put down a deposit. I took delivery in May of 2006 and immediately started planning/mocking up my turbo kit. My intention was to produce this in volume as a high end kit. I took on a "business partner" who was very knowledgeable but not very organized. After over a year we ceased communication and I was left with an exhaust manifold prototype that did not fit properly and an array of random parts I had purchased. I started the project over, on my own, in the fall of 2007. I worked with a great company on the new manifold. I made the necessary changes to make it fit properly and everything was moving steadily. I had the fuel system, pipe routing, intercooler mounting/placement, and tuning all worked out. The car was going to be completed in late 2008/early 2009. Then the market fell out. In one week my wife lost her job, my daily driver died, and my job was threatened. Sadly, I had to get rid of the Sky. The project was left unfinished. Maybe someday I'll buy another Kappa used and finish the kit. At least that will give me some closure. On with the pics! Here are pictures of the first prototype. I was using a V-band flange on the manifold with a TiAL V-band stainless steel exhaust housing (GT2860). NO GASKETS! This required an external wastegate, which fit snugly between the turbo and head. This design was abandoned because I did not feel the tight placement of the wastegate could not be guaranteed with production variance. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/DSC02949.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/DSC02950.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/DSC02948.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/P1000360.jpg I made the decision to switch to an internal wastegate in order to simplify the packaging and manifold design. This required me to change the merge collector in order to fit the new flange. The turbo placement changed slightly too, since I could pull the turbo closer to the head (and away from the power steering reservoir). Here's the completed manifold when it was tacked together. I'll have to get some pics of it now that it's done. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/P1000806.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/P1000810.jpg http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/P1000807.jpg
