  1. Thanks for the advice! I never would have used a flash at all in that shot- I guess I have a lot to learn...
  2. Hey all- looking for a simple bounce flash to use indoors for candid family pictures- I can only do so much with my canon 50mm 1.8 in dark rooms and if I push the iso it can get grainy larger than 4x6 depending on the shot. I am also looking at the 430 ex ii but it is considerably larger, uses more batteries, pricier and the only advantage I can see for myself at this time is I can also bounce it off a side wall without turning the camera sideways? oh yeah I have a canon rebel xs. I have the kit 18-55 and a 50mm 1.8 uv filters for both and that is it so far. I have a small case I use which is why I also like the small 270 flash. Thanks, Andrew
  3. to the OP I dunno let me know when you figure it out... I have had one a few times about a perpetrator in my house. I make the decision to pull the trigger in self defense and the gun goes off but doesn't affect him or mildly injures him on the order of a bee sting?
  4. now you are talking my language... ^^
  5. JP- do you frequently drive almost 200 mph/kmh (cant tell) on an empty tank of gas? Jamie- Thanks for the info on the hornet it probably has a built amc 401 small block with a 300-400 hp shot of nitrous- what's your lambo have in it? factory 5.0 V10 you added twin turbos to?
  6. Hey all- What do you guys do about organizing your hardware (bolts/nuts/screws) so you can find them and not always have to buy new and then realize a few days later you had 20 in a special stash. Right now they are roughly sorted by diameter in coffee cans but as you know every coffee can looks the same from the side and without the lid one light tip and it is a tragic mess. Thanks! Andrew
  7. Hey all- What do you guys use as far as a clear shield to protect your face from grinding debris? I have a jackson head gear with a clear shield and it is junk. I added a fabric wrap to it but it is always falling down and the shield is coming loose. Thanks! Andrew
  8. tell me about that hornet....
  9. does this include the one that came with the car from the factory or does it have to be once replaced?
  10. thats a good idea- thanks! I could do that as well... I don't have any 3/8" but I do have 1/4" material...
  11. Hey all- Making a custom hitch for a project car.... thinking about heat treating the receiver portion of the hitch so that the hole for the pin won't stretch? I am pretty sure this makes mild steel harder to cut and deform but am not sure how would apply to tension/vibration loads which is why I was just going to do the area around the hole. They do heat treat pins and hitch balls fwiw... I knew I was going to drill on it so I did not quench after welding. btw as far as my heat treat technique I am thinking about getting the area around the pin cherry red and then quenching it in a bucket of water. EDIT : after reading this http://www.millerwelds.com/resources/communities/mboard/archive/index.php/t-12879.html, I am double thinking my idea... can anyone offer any further guidance? Thanks! Andrew
  12. Thanks for the recs! I called around and found the dp90 at ohio auto kolor but he said I need a automotive spray gun to put it on? He then said the self-etching primer in the rattle can doesn't have a catalyst? Do you think that is still best for me? He said he never heard of amerlock 400 and wanted a part number which I have not found online as of yet. ???
  13. wow... that's worse/better than I thought!
  14. Hey all- What would you recommend as a tough automotive grade paint for a new master cylinder cover and some mild box and plate steel I recently welded to prevent rusting? Looking for combination or paint and primer recs please Thanks! Andrew
  15. 100 bucks for a turbo that's amazing- I also am a bit skeptical of the quality.... I think the flanges to make the headers would cost more than that- If it were me I would build a cage of some sort around it so if it did blow it didn't injure you or the rest of your car... Don't they turn like 50K rpm? that would be like a flying ninja star from hell. Why do you think it would implode rather than explode? Are turbo housings that tough?
  16. All you need is someone with a decent metal brake and a drill press- for those curved pieces depending on the thickness of metal you desire they may need a plasma cutter or someone willing to spend a lot of time with a grinder... If I had the truck here I could tack and adjust and then finish weld several plates together to make it work but it would be slow and expensive. Again depending on the thickness those curved sections would be tough- I would probably have someone rough plasma it and then I would finish grind. I know of a shop I use but I wouldn't be comfortable paying anyone unless they also had the truck to install it on to check it.
  17. interesting- two accounts on a .22 break barrell doing the job on ground hogs- what distance are you shooting them at harmonda?
  18. wow- you must know how to pick them!
  19. Well- I jinxed myself- on the drive back from work the SES light came on! Secondary air injection system valve stuck 27K miles- after some research the intake manifold has to come off for this particular valve of 2 if you have adult sized hands? WD40 or seafoam can sometimes loosen them up if you spray it somewhere- joy. It's still a sweet car.
  20. Haha- you obviously haven't had a german car or gm product from the 90s on...- I am in agreement with you and if honda or ford made something comparable to a corvette I would have it as I have had much more success in the reliability department with both of those- I consider it lucky to only have to replace a 3.00 sunvisor clip so far. My f-body had lots of problems at 60K miles and problems started at 25K . I am sure other makes are good as well- never had a toyota or mitsubishi.
  21. At what range are you doing this with a 22 air rifle? Years ago on the farm at around 30 yards I would have to use a gunpowder rimfire .22 with high load "stinger" ammunition to drop a groundhog head shot or not. The 22 caps are a joke and standard load is wimpy and takes several shots and a drawn out death routine. They are tough sum beeches- squirrels and rabbits not so much- At beyond 75 yards I think you really need a .17 hmr for groundhogs or a really tough dog that loves groundhog meat. I wouldn't waste your time with the .177 air rifle- I had a gamo whisper when they first came out- I think it was 1000-1200 fps? Anyhow it was accurate to a dime at around 30 yards as well and it would not drop a groundhog with a head shot. As far as skunks as mentioned above cat food is really one of the best for skunks the problem is its also very effective at catching cats ;-)
  22. Do new cars with catalytic converters still emit enough CO to make this happen?
  23. The c5/c6 corvettes are just plain amazing. It's funny how many guys trailer cars and put on race tires, ice intakes, etc to run slower or just as fast as they are bone stock. I prefer the "raw" feeling of my c5z to my dad's 08 c6 but his is much faster down low (5.3 vs 6.2L) and his seats are better. His had a rear-end binding noise that went away with the addition of a revised lsd fluid under warranty. Had a squeaking noise in the targa top we fixed with a few c-clips. He just changed the battery in his keyfob and they are made of this cheap plastic and tough to get apart so it doesn't go back together properly- apparently the 08+ fobs are less serviceable than the 05-07. However- I would trade a cheap keyfob for the ls3 anyday over the ls2. He only has 6500 miles or so though so only time will tell- I have almost 30K on my c5z (bought it with 13K) and knock on wood other than a broken sun visor clip it has not had any problems.
