Once I totaled my LT1 f-body ;-( and we sold our LS1 SS I stopped visiting as well .... I think a lot of the ohio f-body guys got older and moved on to vettes.
-
I am still on the fence with the e36/c4 but if I could swing a c5 noway would I go m power... I agree with the trunk advantage- my dad's c6 has a big hatch but every time he puts anything back htere it ends up all over the car-I also have heard the c4 ride is quite stiff and I hate the digital dash. with the recent replies the vr4 is a curiosity heck I got a few calls today on the stang so I may end up with a c5z after all...
-
thanks for the spring rates! I figured the c-s were a little extreme.
-
now thats a sleeper- those things are fast? I am actually intrigued

Turbo lag and 4 cylinder grunt (or lack thereof) when out of boost- This was on a 2004 WRX non STI brand new- I drove a same year 2.5 RS (if thats what they were called- same car without turbo) as well and I swear my wife's then 95,000 mile bone stock S14 240 SX was faster and more solid feeling. AWD is a nice feature though. Anyways on the wrx I got on it pretty hard at a stop light and it was on its face all the way until just past the intersection- after that it was nice but not shocking- the srt4 in my brief drive was much better- virtually zero lag it felt almost like a v8 at all rpms- I just didn't think it was going to hold up and interior was cheap- I also drove one with the viper seats and since I am short 5'6" by the time I could reach the pedals the thigh bolsters put my knees into the bottom of the dash.... so I got the rsx-s.
-
Interesting... other than a backseat why do you think that the the M3 or mustang would be more practical than a c4 or c5 corvette?
-
thats funny you should say that I was offered one of those and 5 grand for my car. Another guy wanted to trade even for a 9 second one but I declined. Nice ride but I want handling/braking/ride as well
-
Hah I told my wife that sounded like a v8 but I have never heard a turbo rotary before so I thought it may sound like that- I knew it didn't sound like the rotary in the FB.
-
That is sound advice and that is why I bought my coupe in the first place- coming from my lt1 f-body and a brief attempt at contentment with an rsx-s, I picked the mustang 5.0, they sounded awesome, cake to work on, bulletproof rear-end (f-body days), factory forged bottom end, extremely light weight and rigid (hardtop- wasnt a big fan of the f-body t-top cowl shake), great aftermarket and somewhat rare (coupe)- the problem with this which I didn't realize back then is while it was a great foundation to add all of the parts too, people want to buy great foundations not finished works of art, so if for whatever reason you get bored with your now or future awesome 1980 corolla its a part of your family like an old cat noone likes but lives forever. Financial losses like this are easier to take for some reason when you are single and younger even though you had much, MUCH less money back then.... I know depreciation is the same thing but it doesn't feel the same when you have significantly improved the car from when you got it

Andy hehe I know you are in the same boat as me- I looked at 03-04 cobras for a while as well until I realized they were basically same car (other than rear IRS) that just looked a little more modern.

Thanks guys- well scratch the S4 off the list- I have spoken with tinman numerous times about his v6 and v8 FCs, and am on v8rx7forum and researched/posted a lot about an FC with my engine in it-thats a cool idea but after some thought, I already have a car almost as light with the engine already in it it was engineered for (well close anyhow) which for my purposes could be made to handle good enough for my needs if I wanted to throw more money away. Hence my stock or very close to stock requirement. An LS1 FC is cool no doubt but I would much rather have a C5 corvette with the transaxle in the back, true double wishbone suspension and hydroformed frame for just a bit more which is recovered in resale- I actually know a few guys with LS1 FCs that sold them to get C5s and would never go back. Not sure why but the stealth/mitsus worry me... I will research them more though- maybe its chrysler/dodge reputation and the fact that the mitsu is its almost its identical cousin... that neon srt4 I drove had clutch chatter with 10 miles on it I dont care if it had a 70000 mile warranty I just didn't have good feelings about that car. Maybe an M3 but a v8 is hard to pass on for the same price or less with comparable handling (C4), cheaper parts and ease to work on. I guess before I cross it off my list I should see one/research some more as some of htem do have a back seat which is nice but not really a requirement at this point GTO interiors are awesome but they are too heavy and muscle-car oriented for my needs. nice S2000s cost more than 15K and while our rsx is awesome at 8000 rpm it is not that impressive at anything below 6000 which really irritates me- this is is why I gave it to my wife to get my notch. I like pushing the gas pedal an 1/8 of an inch max in daily driving- call me lazy but torque works for me. Man I feel like goldilocks- I never considered a c4 before though- The reason I am down to 10-15K is this is how much I was going to finance on a c5 z06 after selling my mustang- I figure if I had another fun car I could have the option of keeping the mustang (and letting it rot in the driveway rather than give it away- practical eh?) and then make taking the gas on it easier on my psyche if it is just sitting- It seems I always end up with a corvette in these mental games I just can't justify buying one until I figure out how to get SOMETHING I can live with out of this mustang. I figure a c5 z06 will only cost me 3-6 grand more than my mustang over the next 5 years if you consider what I have to spend on the mustang to make it handle/stop, update the interior, and increased maintenance as it is older and the comparable resale values- A C5 would likely be cheaper than my mustang as they are typically 5-10 grand cheaper than z06s. And yes there is the simple option of keeping what I have and changing the suspension/brakes- but what do I do another 3 years from now if/when I am bored with it again, it is worth even less but I have another 5 grand or worse sunk into it- I would never have imagined when I got this car 3 years ago I would have spent so much money on it- its been fun no doubt and its an awesome ride I am just bored with straight line action. I guess after all of that bs its C5> C4> E36 M3>Max Motorsports Coupe 5.0

Thanks a lot guys! I talked it over with the wife and we are going to bring the RSX- its pearl white- Type S badging removed (hey it was briefly my car and if you have ever seen my mustang you know I like sleepers) Any help/mentoring would be awesome- I am not prideful in any way- I know I suck- It was really too nasty last weekend to be social (I was pushing it to get the wife to watch period in the rain) and I am sure we saw lots of you CR guys but I would know you by your cars rather than your faces- we never saw AJ's Z06 run or a white civic (Rich) but we did see the first heat which had the blue dsm (ben?) and the silver fb (clbsinvadr) nice drivers btw- I am amazed how quiet but nice sounding some of the mustangs were in that heat- mine sounds more like that thunderbird which is mean but too loud for extended periods of time which if I keep it is going to change. FWIW my wife liked the green FD in the first session... Did that green S14 240 have an LS1 in it- there was a guy I was talking to on ebay from columbus a while back with that setup and I lost his email address--- car looked similar... Just gotta change the oil, serpentine and plugs and check the tire pressure on the rsex and it should be ready to roll- we have one M2000 helmet if thats legal and one SA95. Unfortunately my brother-in-law has requested my assistance to modify his gate for his new riding mower this weekend so it looks like the drivers school will be my first participating event this season... See you on May 3rd-

I think we have a few winners- Corvette C4: What I know- relative easy to work on but lots of electrical gremlins, very stiff/very squeaky rattling ride... love the v8 though. BMW E36: Know virtually nothing other than the fact it is german and parts are expensive- everyone I have ever talked to has loved thiers though- Audi S4: have heard front suspension is a problem other than that nothing- twin turbo v6 sounds like a nice combo- is german as well parts $$$$- VR4/Stealth TT - Also nothing but for some reason I dont get the feeling that they are reliable.... why do these cars have more of a cult following than general enthusiast following?
-
Why is that? Scott I wondered why you never got back to me about seeing that car- you sold its soul?

on the dsm- in stock form they aren't that impressive are they? ooh nice call on the vr4- I have heard they are heavy but other than that I have always liked them- What about a mr2 turbo? again older and probably not the level of performance I am looking for as far as acceleration in stock form?
-
negative on the srt4- wasn't too impressed with it or the subie wrx on test drives when I got our rsx-s which I gave to my wife to get the 5.0 car... no offense. This would be a dd toy but I do have access to other cars in snow/heavy rain I forgot to mention it has to be rwd or awd... hmm great replies... I did consider a c4 vette- never thought of the e36 m3.... is that the older body style the mid 90s one? I did also consider a porsche 944 turbo with vittesse kit but those cars are pretty old... And yes the FC LS1 would do it for 10-15 I have looked extensively into that and was even going to do it with my blown 5.0 but that doesn't help the resale situation... and I figured if I was going to have a project car of that level I might as well stick with what I have.... FD LS1 as sam detailed does have the resale value but he is right they are out of my price range.... F-body been there done that- you trade handling for ride big time with that solid rear and I would need a 12 bolt for sure with that eggshell back there this time around- nice brakes stock though you are correct... Mach one is basically what I have minus a bit of rwhp and a set of new shocks. Nice car though no offense- looking for something a little less muscle car oriented and more sports car oriented. Audi S4 hmm yeah I did run one of those with my old f-body it was quick- I will look into that one--thought they cost more than that... it has a backseat too doesnit it- score.. and I do like the vr6 jetta my wifes gf has... but I think the gti is fwd? Ford Festiva? Are you serious?

Hey guys- New or used- What would you recommend in this price range? Would prefer a v8. would settle for a six or reluctantly a turbo 4. Very good handling and braking- nice ride at least 14 second quarter mile-- would prefer faster but beggars cant be choosers. I would like it to be factory stock or as stock as possible- I can make my fox into this for 5 grand or less but I cannot even recover half of what I have in it now at this point in resale Does this beast exist? All I can see is 20-25 for this price range with the c5 vettes or 350z track edition
-
Depends what you want to do... Almost all of the cobra parts bolt on your fox... The foxes are lighter as well... The kicker is resale though- while you can make a fox a cobra you cant sell a fox like a cobra.

Hey guys- Watched this past weekend for a while but got too cold and left- looks like fun- Looking to register my wife and I as separate drivers for the event this weekend- however I can't figure out what class to run in- we are both noobs- I have participated once when I was 16 but I could barely drive on the road let alone race at that age... The rsx-s is obvious g-stock but its my wife daily driver and a very nice car so I don't really want to tear the transmission out of it if one of us were to say miss a shift or so.. I would rather bring the mustang as I wouldn't be as upset if we broke it and it is easily fixed- but the problem is I think I would be in modified I just don't know which one AM BM CM DM ETC- 90 lx coupe 5 spd with heads, cam, intake, supercharger, built drag racing rear, c springs and worn out shocks and bushings around. probably the same class as that thunderbird we saw this past sunday? no that was c prepared... hmm. Also if we were to sell the mustang before the event could we switch our registration to the other car or do we lose our registration fees? This IS possible though unlikely as a few guys are interested in it now.... Either way help would be greatly appreciated...

fwiw- I would keep your old wheel/airbag sensors/etc as this really effects resale- its also illegal but lots of people apparently do it as momo and grant still thrive.
-
I didn't know the c springs were close to the h&r sports???? where are these rates published? I couldn't find them last time I looked. If you go with H&r's contact artsperformanceparts he has the best prices on max motorsports and related stuff... or stangsuspension both offer corral discounts... the poly isolators are a lot cheaper than the factory rubber ones... both new. I dont think it makes a difference- Are you running koni yellows?

Steeda tri-ax I have it and love it- I dont have the comfort handle yet either. Everyone that gets in my car raves about the transmission/shifter but I think that is because it has never been powershifted- speed shifted yes but not powershifted. I think if you whale on the car a lot for drag racing you may want the pro 5.0 as it has a steel handle and sturdier construction- steel shifter ring- I am talking about one of those drive it like you stole it crazy mofos with the 1.4 60' and putting your fist through the stereo shifting. One of those guys that would get a low 11 with my car while I am at low 12s. You know the type... The tri-ax is smoother but not as sturdy as it has an aluminum handle... however a lot of guys say this is a safety feature because if you are beating on the handle enough to break/bend it you are likely damaging your transmission internally anyhow- I would prefer a 20.00 handle break than a shift fork.

I use a walmart 9.00 usb noname gamepad from walmart for my 8 bit nintendo emulator I play with occasionally on my laptop.... it even has a retractable cord. Oops- I didn't read properly- you already have one- yes you need to go into the options and setup the joystick in the game- go to controllers or something like that- The reason it is not automatic is that some people may want to make up down and down up like with a jet game or set the buttons up to do different functions like fire weapons or acess doors etc... It will ask for input and you push the joystick one direction if left it will likely read -x good luck-

Okay- if you would like to make an offer on this car now is the time to do it- I am putting it on evilBay this Sunday.
